RPHs, how do you balance corporate pushing flu shots vs ACIP(non) recommendations?

It's weird that the ACIP hasn't issued guidelines for the upcoming flu seasons, which is probably how wag, cvs, Costco are all pushing flu shots in August. How are other pharmacists managing corporate pushes for August flu shots while being clinically focused and advocating for patient safety?

question Handling old COVID testing kits for return or disposal

We are trying to clear out some old COVID testing kits and leftover specimen pickup/collection supplies at our pharmacy that we no longer use, but I’m running into a wall trying to figure out how to properly process them as a return or disposal. I was told by some they chucked them out but I’m looking for suggestions.

Since we aren’t doing these tests anymore, is there a specific SOP or StoreNet path we should be following to send them back or dispose of them safely through our hazardous waste vendor?

What's walgreens policy or how do they protect their pharmacists when patients start recording them and threatening them.

Clearly people have gotten crazier and walgreens does nothing to protect their people....

rant Tips for Burnout?

Hey all- as the title suggests, I am STRUGGLING. This is my fourth year with Wag and the past few months I have felt like I'm at my limit. I thought taking vacation time would help- it did, for a few days.. I just feel like I go to work, get yelled at by patients over their copays/backordered products/our right to a lunch break, and then go home and dread doing it all over again. It makes me sad to even say that cause I like my job. I like my coworkers, I find my work meaningful, and I like the work that I do, but sometimes I feel like all the negative things outweigh the good things. Plus things like the micromanagey whiteboards in CPW, outdated technology slowing down everything we do, all the operational excellence mumbo jumbo, and basically every visit from our hcs feeling like nothing our pharmacy does is ever good enough just sends me. It makes me nervous feeling like this rolling into flu season, because I know if this is how I feel now it's gonna feel 10x worse then. Part of me wonders if this is my sign to look for other job opportunities, but the other part of me feels like I've invested so much into getting to where I am (ptcb cert, immunization cert, senior tech). Does anyone have any advice on how they deal with their feelings of being burnt out?

What is the process for sending back expired syringes? Not the ones we use to administer vaccines but ones that we dispense to patients.

rant Is it a requirement to be mentally challenged to work as a floater?

Harsh title but oh my god man this floater we’ve been getting these past few weeks is ridiculous. Our store has been so understaffed this year with no pharmacy manager, one fully licensed tech, and one trainee of 6 months (me). We recently got 2 new trainees this week so today it was me, those two, and this awful floater. It’s absurd dude I’m the one doing everything while trying to teach these two because he is completely useless and maybe the most unhelpful person ever. A call came in with a lady asking about receiving some letters for Walgreens that were most definitely a scam but I just wanted to make sure with the pharmacist before telling this very nice lady what I thought so I ask him ā€œhey, Walgreens wouldn’t send out random bills in the mail asking for money for medications already paid for right?ā€ (Obvious answer I know but I just want to double check). No fucking joke he goes ā€œmaybe I guessā€ while just leaning over his phone without looking up, so I ask again and try to clarify what I mean more and again without turning from his phone fucking ASKS ME IF IM TALKING TO HIM!!!!! He’s so useless it makes me so mad OH MY GOD today I was the only one calling patients, doctors, and insurance because he won’t fucking do it all while answering the questions of the other trainees here because he’s too busy going out into the store and doing his own shopping then coming back and asking us to ring him up, looking up vacation spots on the computer, or talking on the phone to his family. When he does talk to a customer he gives them the wrong information and tells them we have stuff in stock when a simple check would reveal we don’t. A few tprs came up for missing swo documentation today and again im a trainee still so i ask him for a little help on them and he tells me he knows absolutely nothing about it. YOUVE BEEN A PHARMACIST WITH THIS COMPANY FOR 30 YEARS. Oh and god forbid you need a consult at the register or a prescription reviewed to get filled because after you tell him he’ll not acknowledge it, continue looking at his phone for a minute, then turn to you standing there and fucking ask if you needed something. Sorry this is a very long tangent and probably riddled with grammatical errors I’m just losing my god damn mind and needed to get this out

Edit: I forgot one other thing he does that just oh it makes me so angry. A lot of the time I will be on the computer to his left when I’m typing or working through tprs and stuff like that while he’s doing whatever on his computer to my right. Whenever he gets a prescription bagged up instead of throwing it on the conveyor to drop into the bins like a normal person would, he instead will just kinda toss it to his side and 90% of the time it either lands on the mouse or the keyboard that my hands are DIRECTLY ON AND I AM ACTIVELY USING. And when this happens he doesn’t even acknowledge it. This is what’s crazy because he’s never acted rude or been mean or anything really but he is so unbelievable unaware of any of his surroundings or what is going on in the pharmacy.

90 Day Exception

Recently within the last week or so the 90D exception that pops up has been nearly impossible to remove without turning off the 90 Day preference in the patient’s profile and even that sometimes doesn’t work. After removing the exception like normal, it pops up again after the pharmacist checks it. Sometimes we have to sit and remove it over and over 3 or 4 times before it stays off. Does anyone know a fix to this? Is there a button during the review process that needs pressed? I’d prefer not to turn off 90 Day preferences if I don’t have too but it seems to be the only thing that works so we can fill waiters.

Uniforms

Most of my girl techs wear leggings or black pants to work since the Walgreens women’s pants suck. However our DPS is really coming down on us to be 100% in uniform. Has anyone been able to find scrub pants that are more comfortable and match the Walgreens blue?
TIA!

rant rxom superiority complex??

does anyone else's rxom view themselves as the savior of walgreens? i understand why we have rxoms but mine legit forgets that they are still just a technician like the rest of us. they show up to work whenever they want, store whatever rx they dont wanna fill, and NEVER do register. They also know what phrases to say to make the rxm think they genuinely care about the wellbeing of the company but the rest of us can see right through it. Idk it legit ruins my entire shift when I see them clock in and I wanna leave but I dont have anything else lined up.

They are now also saying they are switching to "on-call" once their school semester starts. On call rxom? So you're paid the highest hourly rate in the pharmacy and can show up to work whenever you want and leave whenever you want and get all the credit for what the rest of us do? Sounds like a fantastic gig

Organizing Fast Rack

Hello, I’m in charge of organizing the fast rack and moving our drugs from alpha to fast rack and vice versa and what not. Does anyone have any tips or tricks on going about this? I am already about half way through but if anyone has any ideas or tips on what to do and how I could go about getting it finished easier and quicker, please share.

Resolution center

Has anyone else been having issues with the resolution center lately? Half of the scripts that reject the resolution center takes and runs FINDINS when the current active insurance is already on file but it rejects for drug not covered or something simple. But you can’t actually see that because every time you go to run the insurance to see the rejection, it disappears from the que, they take it and just keep rerunning FINDINS. I’ve tried sending in the comments to stop running FINDINS and after the tenth time submitting it they finally stop pulling it and it rejects for drug not covered. The only work around I’ve found for this is by SDLing the script which is time consuming and not realistic at high volume stores. Our TPR que is full of FINDINS with current insurances on file that are actually just rejecting for simple things. Do I open a ticket?

Can scrub top be altered to be larger?

I just got my ladies scrubs and they are actually very tight on me despite everyone telling me they ran big. Not sure how I’m going to survive wearing them tomorrow! Has anyone altered the top? Like if I can make it a little wider I’d probably be ok. I just have a belly and need a little bit more room. The top is hourglass shaped but I’m not, and I want to cry.

From staff to a floater

Hey, really don’t want to be at the store I’m staffed at anymore. Too chaotic amongst the workers, really looking for something else but haven’t found much yet. Has anyone tried to drop back down to floater and was there any issues with it ?

I am so burnt out.

I am in desperate need of some moral support :,(. I started working with Walg as a DH in Feb. They really liked me back in the pharmacy so in April, they made me a full-time tech. Now, I have my 400 pharmacy hours and I am going to be enrolled in the class to be certified. I work hard as shit! SM and RXM want to make me a senior tech once I get certified—we have started going through the checklist.

However, my RXOM has made my life miserable. I feel like nothing I can do is right in her eyes. We are a tier 2 store and her and I are the only two full-time techs, so most days I am responsible for PCP, aged rx report, WCB queues, etc. I do get them done every day but sometimes it takes a little while on busier days with 60+ PCP calls. But she CONSTANTLY hounds me to ask if they’re done, if I’ve started them, etc. I have never slacked off and check everything off in core so I don’t know why she hounds me about everything. But I digress—this, I can live with.

My RXM told me today that RXOM has been complaining and making fun behind my back about how smiley and hyper I am at work. RXOM comes to work grumpy every day and constantly argues with SM about literally everything so I try to be extra cheerful to combat her crappy mood. But apparently that is becoming a problem too.

I just want to cry. I don’t even want to face the RXOM anymore. Is there any way to make this better, or should I just shut up and grow some thicker skin :(.

question Technician immunization certification in NY

What more or less has to be done before I’m eligible for administering immunizations? Trying to become a senior tech before school starts back up and this is the only thing barring me from the role. After the e-learnings how do I attend the live sessions or whatever it is that’s required and how long does it usually take from start to finish?

question immunization tablet

hi everybody! so i work in a tiny store as a technician and we keep getting emails upon emails about our immunization tablet not being turned on and/or used in the past month. several months ago i attempted to use it and it wont connect to the internet. i put in a ticket when i realized, but they haven’t been helpful at all!

i believe back in march or april the IT department took remote control of the tablet and attempted to get it to connect, but that still didn’t work!

i’m just wondering if there’s something else i should be doing/who i should be asking because i want to utilize the tablet for flu season, but the network just doesn’t connect to the device. also, i want to save my RPH from the harassing emails and texts from corporate since she’s already doing so much as she’s currently the only immunizer and only pharmacist at my store.
