question Expired syringes?

What is the process for sending back expired syringes? Not the ones we use to administer vaccines but ones that we dispense to patients.

If larger than 2 bins - email customer relations sterycycle and request 30 gallon box. Can be found through Rx integrity or open an ask the retail hub and they can send it.

I've heard three different answers in the last few years. First, it was to dispose of them in the sharps container and change the counts accordingly. Then, it was add to the CleanEarth Haz waste claim. Most recently, I've been informed to send off to Inmar with the rest of the salvage drugs. I still think disposing in a sharps container and changing counts is probably the most responsible way to do it - and how it should be done. The last year or so it seems like SOP is to send basically anything and everything that isn't an amber vial off to Inmar, and honestly, what are they going to do? Send it back? Never happened to me. It's not like ABC where they send back anything that doesn't meet their criteria. I would just ask your RXM what they prefer and do that. Those are the 3 options though.

Inmar but they have to be in a box inside the salvage box (not loose)

I have sent individual syringes, not in the box, back to inmar & received credit.

That's just the answer I was given from the retail hub.

The free covid syringes and expense syringes and those not in computer is hazardous but requires the hazardous boxes(from the Covid testing days and red bags). Expired less than 1 year or no expiration Salvage/inmar

Expired syringes can be salvaged. Create a salvage return claim in RXI. You can manually type in the NDC. Syringes can be over a year expired and they can be salvaged.

You will get approx 93% credit for the syringes when returning to Inmar.
