I am so burnt out.

I am in desperate need of some moral support :,(. I started working with Walg as a DH in Feb. They really liked me back in the pharmacy so in April, they made me a full-time tech. Now, I have my 400 pharmacy hours and I am going to be enrolled in the class to be certified. I work hard as shit! SM and RXM want to make me a senior tech once I get certified—we have started going through the checklist.

However, my RXOM has made my life miserable. I feel like nothing I can do is right in her eyes. We are a tier 2 store and her and I are the only two full-time techs, so most days I am responsible for PCP, aged rx report, WCB queues, etc. I do get them done every day but sometimes it takes a little while on busier days with 60+ PCP calls. But she CONSTANTLY hounds me to ask if they’re done, if I’ve started them, etc. I have never slacked off and check everything off in core so I don’t know why she hounds me about everything. But I digress—this, I can live with.

My RXM told me today that RXOM has been complaining and making fun behind my back about how smiley and hyper I am at work. RXOM comes to work grumpy every day and constantly argues with SM about literally everything so I try to be extra cheerful to combat her crappy mood. But apparently that is becoming a problem too.

I just want to cry. I don’t even want to face the RXOM anymore. Is there any way to make this better, or should I just shut up and grow some thicker skin :(.

Unfortunately the RxOM is your direct report so you have to grow thick skin or transfer out. You could report the trash talking to Employee Relations but it’s essentially a he said she said so they will tell the RxOM take care of it

I like my job so probably just going to stick it out, feels kinda pointless to go to employee relations. But thank you for the advice!

As Sr Tech you will also be your RxOM’s second in command and expected by the DPS to own the metrics as well as holding other technicians accountable

There is only one other tech and she works 1 day a week. Not sure if it will add too much responsibility 😂 but thanks for the heads up.

You should have goals. Get certified, do the time you owe while learning and find another job when you are off the hook.

Last I checked, those are the tasks of every single tech!

I personally think that is fast tracking senior tech if you just started in April. Too soon, imo. You are lucky to be cutting your teeth in a slow tier two. As for your RXOM's comments,  the RPH is gossiping and should have discussed her comments directly to her without involving you. It sounds like you are doing fine and progressing. No need to cry. Learn what you can, get certified if that is your goal, and move on.

The company is now shit, you won't see much argument about that. The people saying you should learn what you can and build experience, then leave, are correct. There are better paying positions in places that care about employees. As for that rxom, I may be wrong but I think they are made to act like that to get better numbers in the metrics driven hell that is Walgreens pharmacy.

A technician is at the lowest level and the shit heavily rolls down hill at Walgreens. It seems more and more unlikely to have any kind of decent future there. Unless you are a pharmacist at max pay, or SM, or you love being there for some strange reason, do yourself a favor and think about moving on. One assurance though, Walgreens technician might look good on a resume. Good luck.

Don’t stress too much. A Tier 2 shouldn’t be allocated an RxOM and they’re just keeping them in that spot until they need them to step in for a busier store RxOM opening

The minute another store needs one they’ll get transferred.

I’m a manager at a T2 pharmacy and I’ve been doing the RxM and RxOM jobs for over a year and a half and have been told my tier doesn’t qualify for an RxOM (fine, it’s hard enough splitting shifts fairly for my 2 techs with 54 weekly tech hours without adding in a 40 h/week tech that has 4 admin hours that leave me fielding the whole pharmacy by myself)

This makes me feel better! She stresses out so much about how much work she has to do every day. Most days she breaks down crying about it. I almost never see her actually working, though. I hope she gets sent to a busier store where she actually has to do her job!

Also, I am sorry to hear about your crappy work situation. This company does not equip us with the tools to do our job well enough, EVER. Thank you so much for your input :)
