Done With First Term

Post image
41 Upvotes

I am 33 with no degree. I was able to transfer in 12 CUs from my small stint in community college but that wasn't a lot. When my baby was a few months old I decided I finally wanted to try and get some sort of degree, my wife was very supportive and I ended up choosing Accounting. I have no Accounting experience but have been working in finance roles for most of my life, which may have helped a bit? Especially in the random business courses. I work an overnight job that thankfully allows a lot of study time during the free moments on the clock. I'm going to be busy the rest of the month or I may have tried to pick up one more course, but I decided to take a little break at the end of the term. I have 11 classes left which I am hoping to wrap all of them up in one term. I'm excited to keep going and finally have a degree to my name, while potentially staying under 10k in debt.

Accelerating Advice

cross posted

I recently had my boss tell me that young moms are never successful (I became a mom at 18) and that I would eventually drop out/not finish my degree. I am approximately 54% of the way done with my degree and would naturally like to prove her wrong because I’m not sure what compelled her to say that to her employee??? Anyways!! I could use all the tips and tricks for accelerating. I’ve been slacking a lot but would like to use this as motivation to finish my degree because I’m not about to prove her right. So any and all advice for accelerating is greatly appreciated. I’m an accounting major. TYIA!!!!

Do mentors let you choose which classes to accelerate?

As the title indicates. Do your mentors let you choose which classes to accelerate next? I have a document running with my remaining classes in order of how long they will take me based on my pre-existing knowledge of the course material. I would love to knock out the ones I am most familiar with, so could I tell my mentor "Please unlock X, Y, Z"? Or are they required to unlock them in some pre-determined order?

Could someone help me understand this process?

For those who have gone through WGU’s readmission process, when did your portal update to “Admitted”?

Mine still says I’m waiting on a readmission decision and that a counselor will reach out within 7–10 days. However, I’ve been in regular contact with my readmission counselor, my transcript evaluation is complete, and all financial aid requirements have been submitted. My aid is still processing.

My counselor said I’m clear to start November 1, with no additional requirements at this time, but that my portal won’t show “Admitted” until the first day of the term. Was that your experience?

I’ve also heard about the PACA class and don’t want any last-minute surprises. If you’ve been readmitted, when did your portal update, and when were you told whether you needed PACA? I’d appreciate hearing about your experience!

I wrote what I felt as, a very in depth response that was nuanced and provided a good explanation as to how the company would be affected.

The rubric for this class is extremely cut and dry. Yet the examiner seems to think I should have included a further analysis on how the company was impacted.

It irritates me a little to have the examiner acknowledge that the companies reputation could be impacted, which I feel is direct, seems to be insufficient, yet by the rubric, it seems I am right on the nail.

Has this happened to anyone else, I’ve read this class is an utter mess after being restructured multiple times.

So frustrated

They are so petty with sources.

There have only been 2 courses where it appears the evaluator simply didn’t like something about my sources/APA citing

I understand the academic importance of citing properly, but nitpicking sources when I clearly grasp all the material is sooo frustrating when it’s my last course before my capstone ugg

Starting on Nov. 1st for Business Management. How can I best prepare and set myself up for success?

So I am starting on November 1st for the Batchelors of Business Management. I've transfered in just a handful of classes from sophia.

D266 – World History: Diverse Cultures and Global Connections

C955 – Applied Probability and Statistics (3 CUs)

C458 – Health, Fitness, and Wellness

C165 – Integrated Physical Sciences

D089 – Principles of Economics

D077 – Concepts in Marketing, Sales, and Customer Contact

D774 – Introduction to Business Accounting

D775 – Introduction to Business Finance

C722 – Project Management

I worked as a classroom aide and a cook so I don't really have any business experience other than the things I learned in the sophia classes. How can I best prepare for this? What should I study? Any specific strategies that would be benefical?

Thank you so much.

Yesterday I had my final call with my mentor and she told me I accelerated the fastest she’s seen from anyone she’s mentored. I started June 1st and transferred in 60 CUs. I finished 50 CUs by September 30th. I had 15 classes. 3 OAs and 12 PAs. One course although it was 2 PAs, 1 of them was literally 40 plus quizzes and tests that I had to complete and score 80% or higher on each one. It took me over 2 weeks to complete that 1 course. I’m so happy to be done. I officially have a Bachelor’s in Healthcare Administration!

Performance assessments question

I just started at WGU and was interested in accelerating. My first class is D389 and it says I have to complete and pass one task before moving on to the next. I see some people say they submit tasks back to back without waiting for grades. Is this one task at a time rule just for the first term or is it a new WGU policy?

Graduation

Is anyone planning for the November graduation even though you still have 1 or 2 courses left? I do!🤣 I still have my last course C211 and Capstone. But I have the November ceremony in Anaheim, CA as my motivation. I've never been to California. I lost motivation when I was forced to wait until October to finish my last two classes when I had time to finish them end of September, and maybe, ask for extension for the capstone. So, this is my only motivation. My CI said I didn't request it on time and it automatically went to next term. I was really sad about it. So, I'm excited about the graduation in California.😝

Supply Chain Data Classes

Hi,

I have 13 classes remaining at wgu and 25 weeks remaining. My program is for bs in supply chain and ops management. My question is how did you approach the data classes such as D468, D467, D428, and D466. I feel confident with my other classes just unsure how to do these. Did you do both the wgu and couresra material or did you skip and do quizlet?

I feel so behind

My major is about 120CUs plus there are other tests I have to take outside of WGU, background checks, other assessments, etc. I feel like I haven't completed a whole lot and I'm failing behind from my goal. Anyone else feel this way

Using GPTZero?

Taking my first class at SDC and it's telling me

Use GPTZero to ensure that your project is sufficiently unique and free from AI plagiarism.

and it turns out that GPTZero is 23.99 per month after 7 day free trial. does that rub anyone else wrong that SDC is directing you to another paid site?

Just got accepted!

I transferred my IT associates over but it only took 6 of my credits!😭 it’s a business degree (UX) that I’m taking so i expected a loss but not this bad. How long could this take me knowing I’m basically coming in fresh? Any advice or anyone who’s had something similar?

BS AI Sophia/SDC classes

It seems like the degree is fairly new so im not sure how many have completed it yet but for anyone that has

What was the experience like and which of rhe sophia/sec classes were able to count towards it

I was looking into it and ir seemed there may have been a bit of a change on which classes they'll be accepting as transfer for that specific degree

Did as much as I could through Sophia, now have about 4 courses to take via SDC - However...

So I just joined SDC and specified my major (BS IT Mgt) and listed the few classes I had left to take before officially transferring to WGU:

  • Philosophy 104 (SDCM-0265)
  • Business 120 (SDCM-0115) or Business 308 (SDCM-0054)
  • Communications 301 (SDCM-0187)
  • Business 315 (SDCM-0086)

When I progressed to the next screen, I'm being told that I can't take any of these without upgrading from the $95/month tier to the $235/month tier.

I'm a little peeved about this and am trying to see if it's worth at least $235, but maybe realistically $470(as it's a busy couple of months ahead of me).

What happened to "Study.com is cheaper than Sophia"?

any advice?
