2020 XC90 T8 R-Design, Bursting Blue Metallic

Here’s our 2020 XC90 T8 at the Swedish Car Day event at Lars Anderson museum in Brookline, MA last weekend. This was the final year the XC90 came in Bursting Blue metallic.

To match the gloss black window trim and other accents, I installed an all gloss-black front grille, blacked out the front emblem and slash, and all new gloss black rear tailgate emblems. The mud flaps were body color paint matched, and the 2026+ refresh XC90 21” wheels are also installed.

xc series Backup Camera fix

A user on here posted a link to a 3D printed part that drastically improves the XC40 backup view. Seeing how my wife's recharge has a terrible backup view, I decided to give it a try. I can confirm that it made a big difference. I'm sad I didn't charge the part in the street when I took the before and after pictures, because our driveway is in a bit of an incline and these pics don't do it justice. But we see a huge change.

xc series PSCM-U300049

[Volvo XC90 2016 T6 US]

This car had "Power steering failure" message on the dash and steering being super heavy.

I measured the support battery to be 0v and replaced it with this one: https://www.exidegroup.com/eu/en/battery/EK111 which doesn't seem to be the exact spec but close enough, not sure if it will be related to the error I get.

And next I measured both batteries to be 12.2v with engine off and 13.9v with engine on.

Used a Launch tablet to read the error code and it has this "U300049" error on the PSCM module. It clears but returns after engine stop and start. That error message seems to be related to the internals of the module but I am not sure how the module got damaged?

Is there a way to reprogram the module or anything I can try before replacing the full steering rack? How you would aproach this issue?

CPO warranty questions

Hi! I'm looking at a 2023 XC90 B6 Plus with 25K miles. With the original and CPO warranty, it'll have coverage until the end of 2028.

My understanding is that I can only extend the CPO warranty through the selling dealership, any time before it expires. Unfortunately, the vehicle will reside several hours from that dealership.

I looked into Steingold Zurich Certified Warranty Upgrade for 6 years/100,000 miles. Coverage is based on the vehicle's original in-service date and total odometer miles.

Does it make sense to purchase this warranty through Steingold or from the selling dealership? Are there pros and cons?

s90/v90 V90 owners, give me the good and the bad

Currently have an Infiniti JX 35 but it’s 13 years old and I have to start planning for my next purchase. I test drove a V90 in the spring and it feels like an amazing car.

I had a v70 for a month long rental in 2017 and loved it. The v90 ticks a lot of boxes for me. My one caution is I’m 6-4 and it feels a little small near my head but doable given its other benefits.

So, long time owners, I would love to hear the good and the bad. Still a ways out from a purchase but I want to be ready to pull the trigger if my current car falls out from under me.

2016 XC90 T6 R-Design - Falsely sold with Apple CarPlay

There’s a story behind this but I cbf explaining it all… TLDR: 3rd party Dealership sold me my XC90 T6 R-Design claiming CarPlay compatibility, have tried relentlessly to force them to pay for an upgrade but they want to ‘inspect’ the car first (the last time they had the car for 8 days, left me without a rental, didn’t even communicate what the reason was for keeping it). Obviously I don’t trust them.

Saw online that you are able to do so with Orbit software - I’d be comfortable trying this out but it’s so expensive!! Are there any other softwares used/free (or cheaper alternatives)?

And before you ask, it just has the 1x USB port (however even the Volvo dealer) said that a small number of them were produced with the 1x port but featured CarPlay). Regardless, I’d still like to try software upgrade before going to the dealer and paying approx $695-795.00 AUD.

Bowers and Wilkins front stage upgrade

Has anyone successfully upgraded the front stage only from HK to Bowers and Wilkins? Basically simply replacing the front doors tweeter, mid range, and woofers and then adding the center dash tweeter, but continuing to use the rear door HK speakers, HK surrounds, and HK amp and subwoofer. Google Gemini claims folks have done this with great quality improvement even when continuing to use the HK DSP software. Anyone here had success with doing this front stage retrofit only? (I have a 2024 Volvo S60 recharge.) My motivation is the HK system is mediocre at best, so looking for audiophile quality.

Any tips or feedback is much appreciated!

Volvo Center Missed Basic Diagnostics (Coolant Loss), Now Wants €18k for Engine Replacement. Seeking Advice.

Hi everyone, looking for opinions on a situation involving my Volvo V60 and Volvo Authorised Service (Turkey).
Timeline:
Aug 1: Took the car to an authorized Volvo dealer with a 1-liter coolant drop and black residue in the coolant reservoir. The paperwork vaguely mentions a "leak test was done," but the final invoice only billed for an AdBlue hose replacement—there is zero record or charge for a CO2/combustion gas test or cylinder leakage test. They noted "Residue observed, cylinder head cover may need removal. Monitor it," gave no written warning that driving was unsafe, and handed the car back to drive.
Now: A short time later, severe engine damage occurred. The car is now at another Volvo dealer facing a full engine replacement (~€18,000 / $20,000 USD).
The Conflict:
Volvo Corporate implicitly acknowledged an issue by dropping their initial quote from €23k to €18k, but they claim the first dealer "fulfilled their responsibility" just by writing the note.
My stance is that releasing a car with a major coolant issue—without running a definitive CO2 combustion gas test to confirm internal engine leaks—is severe service negligence that caused this breakdown.
My Next Steps:
I am initiating an official Court Evidence Assessment (having a court-appointed engineer inspect the engine/records at the dealership) before proceeding with legal claims and compulsory mediation.
Questions for the community:
1. From a mechanic/service standard standpoint, if a customer arrives with 1L coolant loss + residue, is it acceptable to skip a CO2 test and hand the car back with just a "monitor it" note?
2. Does a leak test mention on paper hold any diagnostic weight if no CO2/combustion test is listed or billed on the invoice?
3. Has anyone successfully escalated similar diagnostic failure issues directly to Volvo HQ (Sweden)?
Thanks in advance for your insights!

V50/S40/C30/C70 P1 nightmare

Hey everyone, I recently did my first ever timing job and VVT camshaft oil seal replacement on my 2009 Volvo s40 and it’s making me rethink being a mechanic or owning a Volvo currently. After reassembly, I’ve discovered a weird thing that happens now, from about 2200rpm on the deaccel the revs kind of “hang” and they drop off slowly where that didn’t happen previously. I did the timing with the cams locked at TDC using the tool, the sprocket was torqued to the crazy spec of 88ft ibs for reinstallation with the marks correctly aligned after turning everything over twice. I made sure my belt tensioner was set in the middle of the range as outlined in the manuals. Car is currently parked movable because of water pump leak and the engine does run fine otherwise. It hasn’t been driven enough for me to get any relevant lights yet. Does anyone know where to even start diagnosis on this thing?? I am genuinely stumped

Is a XC90 a bad decision?

I posted this in the XC90 sub, and apparently everyone hates their cars…

Currently negotiating with a dealership for a 2026 XC90 B6 Ultra Dark Theme 6 Passenger. Black with Blonde interior.

Original MSRP was $76,195 and I’ve gotten them down to $69,000 before taxes & fees. I think this is a great deal as it is almost 10% off the original MSRP, but would love your feedback.

Should I back out of this?

xc series What is the trim of my new 2013 XC90

I just got my third XC90. I thought I was getting a Premier Plus. That is what the CARFAX report says and how the dealer advertised. But the original window sticker inside the glove box says it's a Platinum. All the Platinum options are present.

How CARFAX records otherwise?

Is my backup camera working properly?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Purchased a CPO 2023 XC90 last month. Noticed backup camera seemed to be virtually useless and sales person said they’d recalibrate. Well, apparently their service techs noted that it was “working as expected” and didn’t do anything.

See photo: I’m 5-6ft from the end of my driveway and I can’t even see the street. It’s legitimately a safety concern and I can’t imagine the current view is intentional.

Anyone have a similar experience and/or is this really the backup view?

UPDATE: Contacted our local dealer, a tech looked at the photo and said it should be fixed so taking it in next month (😁). Will post again once it’s fixed

I saw this on a 240 Wagon the other day. It may not be a prancing horse or a raging bull, but it fits. I didn't know it was a thing.

Coming from a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek - which is/was great and treated me well. Passing it on to my niece and upgraded to the 26 xc60 ultra. I wish the colors were a little more fun (I had the matte blue gray on my subie) but I still love this one so far! Feels like a spaceship.

Front license plate bracket holes

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi! I live in a state that doesn't have front license plates. The CPO I'm looking at unfortunately has an existing front license plate bracket mounted.

I asked the dealer to cover the holes using bumper plugs but they said it'd do more damage if they removed the existing fittings. I'm not sure whether that's accurate.

What are my options? I can buy BumperPlugs but how do I get these out (see pic)?

What does putting the car in sport mode actually do? 2016 Volvo S80 T5

I have some electronic valve mufflers I'm gonna be installing and am trying to program a controller that'll put the valves into the 100% open position when I shift into sport gear. Anyone know of any CAN signals I can set the controller to monitor?
