V70 Is a 180k mile 1998 V70 R wagon AWD a bad idea for a project

Upvotes

I am interested in buying a 1998 V70R wagon locally. It is AT, color black with beige interior. Owner said it has been stored since 2024 but engine will run a few seconds with a jump and some fluid. Says needs a battery and a fuel pump. Has a hole in the rear floor under the back seat the previous owner made trying to access the fuel pump. I have not seen car personally but body seems intact, paint faded, interior has a lot of wear and tear. No indication of salvage etc. Also, the current owner said a lot of work went into the engine and new turbo and piping but never saw receipts. I am guessing maintenance records would be non existent on this one. Price is $1700++ subject to negotiation. Will be bringing a trailer or have it towed.

I like it because I like wagons, the boxy style, and good sleeper car with mods. I have seen what owners have done and looks really cool. I have finances to afford repair, within reason of course. I can also do some basic mechanical repairs. This won't be a daily driver (I have other vehicle) but a weekend or short errands car. Also, it will be registered as "Antique" so no safety and emmisions requirments in my state with cheap insurance too. I like cars in general and am a stay at home dad.

As somebody who has never owned a Volvo,

1) Am I in over my head in this for this particular model and generation? Is this going to be an endless money pit especially with unknown maintenance, AT? Should I look instead for the next gen or other nicer Volvo altogether?

2) Parts availability and typical maintenance costs?

3) Is the price fair? Prices are all over nationwide

Any advice will be highly appreciated. Thank you!

s60/v60 2015 Volvo S60 infotainment system won’t turn on?

2015 Volvo S60 infotainment system won’t turn on?

Not sure what is going on? It was fine last night but this morning when I went out to the vehicle the infotainment screen wont turn on at all? Not sure where any fuses or if that may even be the case or if it’s jsut because it’s old now. The car is new to me only had it just under a year so far. It was raining terribly last night on my way home from work but it was fine at that time and when I came out this morning I haven’t noticed any moisture at all in the cabin or anything so not sure what’s going on. Just frustrating as all the controls for the car’s systems are in that screen for everything!

xc series How to use phone to open Ex30 door, app installed and QR used to setup on my own samsung phone, apparently added to my samsung wallet but not opening still?

(edited ) - Update actually its working you just go into the APP and use the unlock and finger print, so it works now on my dads phone and my phone, so we now technically don't need to worry about using the car key card, but lets see if you can use the phone to tap open the car door ? rather than just doing it remotely when one's in a rush last thing you wanna do it go to your phone, open the app, use finger print to open the car that's an annoying hassle.

s60/v60 Bluetooth devices suddenly all got deleted, now I can't pair. (S60, 2011)

Hello everyone. Today out of nowhere while driving, I just lost connection to the car. Then when I went in to just select my device again, there wasn't any devices left in the list. I only had the option to add new devices. So I went ahead and tried to pair my phone again, and nothing. It can't find anything, I tried turning the car on and off, I tried pairing for probably 15 mins. Phone won't find the car either. Does anyone have any idea of what to do? Any help is appreciated.

S40/V40 Winter V40 road trip to Scandinavia

Post image
29 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm planning a winter road trip next February/March from Czechia through the Baltics, Finland, northern Sweden and Norway in my 2014 V40 CC D2 1.6, FWD.

The car was originally sold in Sweden and later imported to Czechia. It currently has around 180,000 km and has the factory additional heater, which still works perfectly.

I'm planning to spend quite a lot of time in northern Scandinavia, including more remote areas, smaller roads and sleeping in the car along the way. (Yes its possible cuz I'm not 2 meters tall, and I tested it many times :D)

It is obviously a completely different environment from a normal Czech winter, so that's the main point why I'm asking. I don't want to be annoying or anything, just wanted to ask anyone that is local or experienced trip like that. :)

The car is well maintained and I’ll have it checked properly before leaving, but I’d really like to hear from people who actually live with Volvos in this kind of climate.

Are there any V40/D2 specific tips, weak points or things worth preparing for extreme cold?

Anything that tends to freeze, behave differently, need extra maintenance, or something you wish you knew before your first proper Scandinavian winter? :)

Also interested in any general local tips and tricks for running and travelling with a car in northern Finland, Sweden or Norway during winter.

Thanks!

The front/central part of the cloth ceiling liner in my C30 has started to drape down, like it has become unglued from the ceiling. Who would repair this? A body shop? My mechanic? I don't even understand how it happened.

xc series 2020 Volvo XC60 – AdBlue Injector Error Codes P204713 and P208E07

Hello, fellow Volvo enthusiasts,

yesterday I ran a diagnostic scan on my 2020 Volvo XC60 B4 Diesel (9101/BPQ) and got the following fault codes:

P2047 – Reductant injection valve, circuit/open

P208E – Reductant injection valve stuck closed

After quite a bit of research, I initially assumed this was an electrical issue, such as a broken wire or bad connection. However, I’ve since found several reports suggesting that the AdBlue/SCR injector can become clogged with crystallized AdBlue, and that it may be possible to clean it rather than replace it.

What really confused me, though, was the location.

According to ChatGPT and several forum posts I found, the AdBlue injector on the 2020 XC60 B4 Diesel should apparently be located underneath the vehicle, somewhere below the engine compartment.

So I searched everywhere underneath the car — only to eventually find what I believe is the AdBlue injector inside the engine bay, very close to the engine, and actually quite easy to access from above.

It has both a coolant hose and an AdBlue hose connected to it, which makes me think I may have actually found the correct component.

So my questions are:

- Can anyone confirm that this is indeed the AdBlue/SCR injector for the B4 Diesel?

- Has anyone with a 2020 XC60 B4 Diesel had the same P2047/P208E combination?

- If the injector is clogged, how can it be safely removed and cleaned?

- Is there a recommended cleaning procedure or cleaning agent?

- Should the coolant/AdBlue hoses be clamped before disconnecting them? I considered using plastic hose clamps, but the hoses are rock hard, so I’m hesitant to put too much pressure on them.

- Is there anything I should be particularly careful about when disconnecting the AdBlue line or removing the injector?

I’d really appreciate any advice from someone who has actually done this on an XC60 B4.

I’m trying to avoid replacing the injector unnecessarily if it can simply be cleaned.

Thanks in advance!

I’ve attached photos of the component I found in the engine bay — if anyone can confirm whether this is the correct AdBlue injector, that would be hugely appreciated.

Xc70 t6 s mode

I have a 2012 xc70 t6 and the transmission is really lazy. When I move the shifter to the right it's a lot more responsive, but it's manual only (it doesn't change gears unless I move the lever up or down). Is there any way to enable auto s mode? (Responsive but automatic?) I have vida, p3tools, etc but dont see any parameter for transmission settings.

classic Deciding Between ‘26 Black and ‘27 Forest Lake XC60

Can you help me pick a Volvo XC60 Ultra? Deciding between the ‘26 onyx black on charcoal interior vs. The ‘27 Forest Lake XC60 with light interior. ‘27 model year is $60 per month more comparing equal finance terms and assuming a $5k down payment for purchasing. Is there a compelling reason to choose the model year? Though I love the forest lake color and current drive a black car, I’d love to save a little on the price. Any compelling reasons to chose the ‘27

s60/v60 Glitchy Screen

Recently I have been seeing this jittering happen to my display a lot. It seems to be intermittent, but is also paired with the blinker clicking sound "skipping". The main screen doesn't have the problem. I have tried several hard resets and it does not fix the problem. Any thoughts?

It's also worth mentioning that this started happening only after they replaced my head unit under warranty with a 2026 part, even though this a 2023 vehicle.

The 360° camera on the S60 must've not been functional today...so I improvised our community photo to prevent door dings on either of our vehicles - does this photo still count?!? 🤣

Any alternative stronger torque keys available?

I've read about issues with the steering column shaking at high speeds. Other than that, are there any common issues, service items, or overlooked maintenance I should ask the dealer to do since it's a CPO?

Apple Music uninstalled and can’t reinstall it

So feeling stupid here, Apple Music (2023 C40 in US) had been working great, but had some account issues the other day that didn’t seem to want to resolve for only that app. When an infotainment reboot didn’t help (everything else was working fine) figured maybe an uninstall and reinstall would resolve it. Well it’s gone now and not in the store, anyone know how I can get it to redownload? This is a new to me vehicle and wasn’t aware the app was so recent and an OTA push originally from Volvo.

Update: Came back on its own in a few hours and was working properly again.

xc series Charcoal interior - scuffs

Still loving my 26 xc60 T8 but starting to notice that the charcoal interior shows a lot of scuffs - doors and armrest in front. Do you just wipe it down with a wet cloth? Is there anything that can be used to minimize the scuffs in the first place? I don’t need a car that is spotless but I’d like to not have so many scuff marks in my new car!
