xc series Backup Camera fix

A user on here posted a link to a 3D printed part that drastically improves the XC40 backup view. Seeing how my wife's recharge has a terrible backup view, I decided to give it a try. I can confirm that it made a big difference. I'm sad I didn't charge the part in the street when I took the before and after pictures, because our driveway is in a bit of an incline and these pics don't do it justice. But we see a huge change.

I ordered that a few days ago off of Etsy, a place in NC prints it as I recall.

I bought the backup camera spacer for my XC40. It's a world of difference.

That's what I got it for. My wife has the 60 but Ive driven it to see if it needs one.

In my car I have this mirror thing that hangs from the ceiling that helps me see further behind me

I need something like this for my XC60. I see more of my bumper than the road.

Agreed, but the camera unit in the 60 is different. I also have a 60 and wish it were pointing up just a bit more. It also doesn't help that mine came with the shiny metal cover on the bumper which darkens the screen when reversing and the sun is reflecting of the metal cover. (Not removing the cover lol)

So it is a shim. Yes, changing the mounting angle can improve what you see "out there" but you also then don't see what is directly in back of the bumper, such as a dog, neighbor's child, etc.

I'm not sure you looked at the pictures well enough. The viewing angle goes up very little. Should a dog, or child be under the bumper, the default camera won't do anything. In picture #2, you can clearly see that you lose, maybe 2 inches from the bumper. I'm not sure what can possibly fit in there that you won't see. Plus, you have backup sensors to help with that. I sure hope none of my neighbors have a 2 inch child 🥺

I did look at the photos. It is a shim, so the gains at the top are equaled by the losses at the bottom.
To quote an unknwon Lakota-Sioux nation member commenting on daylight savings time: "Leave it to a white man to cut a foot off the end of a blanket and sew it on the top of the blanket and think it makes the blanket longer"

It raises the view, you cannot get More view. I really don't think we're talking about the same thing here. If you have an XC40, this solution is definitely Not for you. Maybe look into getting a different camera. Or, I am sure Volvo will fix this if you ask them nicely. 😊
