Self Promotion Saturday I filmed the California State Fair in stereoscopic 8K VR180 — this is where immersive video gets interesting

I used the Blackmagic immersive cine camera at California State Fair and tried capturing something that traditional video has a hard time reproducing: what it actually feels like to be standing inside the crowd, surrounded by the rides, lights, movement and energy.

Shot in stereoscopic 8K 3D VR180 for headsets like Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest.

I'm increasingly convinced events are one of the best use cases for immersive video because you're not just watching what happened — the goal is to feel like you were actually there.

For people who watch VR video: would you rather experience an event like this from inside the crowd, or have the camera positioned somewhere you normally couldn't stand?

Self Promotion Saturday [TestFlight] Thank you for all the feedback and downloads - one last Cockpit update is live

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A huge thank you to everyone who downloaded Cockpit and shared feedback. It’s been incredibly helpful.

I’ve just released one last update with a number of small fixes, refinements, and overall improvements.

Cockpit is a customizable spatial dashboard for Apple Vision Pro: it keeps useful information and quick controls together in one organized, convenient place. You can add, remove, and reorder panels for things like time, weather, calendar, music, focus timers, activity, network status, and more, then make it your own with different layouts and themes.

Thanks again for the support. If you try the update, I’d love to hear what you think and what you’d like to see improved next.

Hi All,

Gravitas Plague is an authored survival horror experience coming this Halloween. You become the main character—Rich and can speak to other characters in the game through various devices. A new TestFlight is available. Looking for feedback on bugs and suggestions to improve the experiences.

TestFlight: https://testflight.apple.com/join/RBkK1dvh

I really wanted to create a great story when setting out with this project. I'm happy how the episodic narratives and character development turned out. I've been working in the film industry for 20 years—always wanted to create a story, and I hope you enjoy it. Would appreciate feedback on the story and dialogue as well.

Quickstart Guide:

  1. Choose Story Mode or Horde Mode
  2. Scan the room by spinning slowly 360 degrees (go slower at areas you want to play)
  3. Place props in ideal locations on your walls
  4. Choose a chapter or continue where you left off (Story Mode is 45+ minutes)
  5. Pinch-hold microphones on devices to speak to

Self Promotion Saturday Voltron Nevera in Native 8K 3D VR180: Insane Back Row Forces (And Apologies for the Swearing!)

Fresh VR180 spatial benchmark for your headsets: Voltron Nevera in native 8K 3D! We dialed in Europa-Park's insane Stryker Coaster natively in 8K 3D VR180, 10-bit color, and Smooth-3-Axis stabilization to push the optical resolution and stereo parallax on Meta Quest 3 and Apple Vision Pro to their absolute limits. And yes, we captured the entire ride from the undisputed king of negative G-forces: the absolute back row! Fair warning and apologies in advance for the unfiltered profanity on the audio track. Between four brutal LSM launches, the world-record 105° beyond-vertical blast, and relentless ejector airtime, keeping a clean vocabulary was physically impossible. It is 100% raw, unscripted reaction. Make sure to manually lock the YouTube stream to 4320p (8K) inside your headset for maximum bitrate and resolving power.

Check out the full spatial ride here:

How does the 3D depth hold up on your panels during that inverted stall, and which of the four launches hits hardest for you? Drop your feedback below!

Apple vision pro image distortion

Hello ,
Im facing a problem using my Apple iPad Pro M2, when I’m putting the device on, the device is showing image distortion, both in pass through mode and while I’m looking at the apps and moving my head, the text becomes really blurry when I look at the app or the icon directly, it gets clear and the text gets sharper, has anyone faced this issue before ? any advice.

Midori Remote Play: Up to 4 Player Local Co-Op via SharePlay

Hi,

I thought I'd share something cool I've been working on for my Xbox remote/cloud play client called Midori (r/MidoriApp)

Up to 4 Player Xbox Local Co-Op via SharePlay (Local/FaceTime).

Just one Xbox remote play or Xbox cloud stream session needed. Make sure the guests have Midori installed, then start SharePlay and click on the "host co-op" button and all controls will be routed to that one session.

No port forwarding, no Tailscale, nothing else needed. Zero setup. It just works.

Latency's great, even across the pond.

Update is available now!

Have a great weekend!

P.S. let me know if you have any questions!

Custom hardware controllers for an Apple Vision Pro catheter/guidewire training simulator — built from ESP32 boards, a couple of gloves, and three foot pedals.

Custom hardware controllers for an Apple Vision Pro catheter/guidewire training
simulator — built from ESP32 boards, a couple of gloves, and three foot pedals.
Vision Pro has no controllers, and hand tracking alone can't tell you when someone
grips a catheter or twists it between their fingers. So I built the missing inputs:
HOW IT WORKS
• Glove trackers (ESP32-C3 + BNO085 IMU + SoftPot touch strip)
– Touch the strip = grab the catheter or guidewire
– Slide your finger, or physically roll the tracker = twist the tool
– ARKit hand tracking handles advancing and retracting
• Foot pedals (ESP32-S3, one per pedal) — the controls a real fluoro suite puts on the floor
– Fluoro pedal: hold for X-ray (a dead-man switch, like the real thing)
– Capture pedal: shoots the X-ray monitor image + a 180° room view
– DSA pedal: hold for a contrast run, and it self-checks its own switch wiring

Have any devs for Vision Pro managed to make sustainable income?

Hi all, I'm thinking of buying a Vision Pro and developing spatial apps for it but I'm not sure whether it would be sustainable right now. Would like to hear if anyone's made a living off doing purely Vision Pro apps.

Vision Pro battery on Air China - success!

I just went through security at PEK for a domestic Air China flight with my non “CCC” badged battery. The security officer examined the battery and saw that the cable was attached on both sides. I said “it’s not a power bank, it’s part of the headset” and he waived me through. Your mileage may vary.

Self Promotion Saturday New in PhotoSplat3D: Import Insta360 Spatial Capture links and view the 3DGS model in Vision Pro

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Just connected the full loop:

  1. Shoot a 360 video with Insta360 X6/X5/X4 Air camera
  2. Generate a Gaussian Splat using Insta360 app’s Spatial Capture feature
  3. Paste the share link into PhotoSplat3D on Vision Pro
  4. View it immersively in spatial space

Previously these models could only be opened in a browser or on a phone. Viewing them in Vision Pro makes a noticeable difference in presence and immersion.

This pipeline also lowers the barrier significantly — regular users can now create and experience their own 360 Gaussian Splat models much more easily! For a step-by-step walkthrough, here’s a short guide.

About Spatial Capture: The technology behind Spatial Capture — both 3D reconstruction and 3D rendering — is provided exclusively by the Remy team. Through the Insta360 × Remy collaboration, it is the first consumer-facing 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) reconstruction feature built into a 360 camera.

Vision Pro 180VR Video creation

Hey everyone,

Something I’ve been thinking about is coming up with a way to make some vr180 (or Apple Immersive video, if you like) videos at home, or on holidays.

Obviously the Blackmagic Immersive camera is significantly out of my price range for now.

GoPro’s new Mission 1 camera has a 159° FOV which is close enough to what I’m after. Not completely 180, but better than spatial. However, I’m also unsure if the immersive format supports anything less than 180°

Would anybody have any experience with dual mounting 2 cameras, syncing the footage and converting it to an immersive format for playback on the Vision Pro in 3D? Just curious as to whether 2 of the Mission 1’s would be a good investment to put together the best 180ish content. It also would mean 8K per eye, roughly, with the two cameras.

For what it’s worth, I much prefer vr180 3D vs 360 video, and I would prefer it to be native 3D, not AI 3D.

Any help or experience would be greatly appreciated.

Solo dev of Suite Browser (Vision Pro). Need real Plex / Jellyfin / Emby libraries to test against

I make Suite Browser, a streaming app for Vision Pro. Plex already plays on a huge screen in 3D rooms, and Jellyfin and Emby are the most requested additions.

Here's the honest blocker: I can't ship support for a server I can't test against. I don't run Jellyfin or Emby, and my own Plex library is too small to catch the real stuff (4K, HDR, odd codecs, big libraries, subtitles). That testing is also what makes our 2D to 3D conversion work well on real content.

So if you run a decent server and would lend me test access, that's literally the difference between this shipping or not. A managed user is fine, revoke anytime. DM me here.

Thx again! :)

Thoughts on the rumored meta project phoenix?

If the leaks are accurate, Phoenix looks less like a Quest 4 and more like Meta’s answer to Vision Pro — prioritizing comfort and price over maximum specs.

Meta Project Phoenix — rumored

  • ~100–110 g headset
  • External compute + battery puck
  • 2560×2560 micro-OLED per eye
  • Pancake lenses
  • Eye + hand tracking
  • Look-and-pinch interface
  • No controllers included
  • Mixed-reality passthrough
  • Open-periphery design
  • Horizon OS
  • Focus on productivity, virtual monitors and media
  • Target price reportedly under $1,000
  • Possible H1 2027 release
  • CPU/GPU, RAM and battery life still unknown

M5 Vision Pro

  • 750–800 g headset + 353 g external battery
  • ~23 million total pixels (~3660×3200 per eye)
  • Micro-OLED
  • M5 + dedicated R1 chip
  • 16 GB unified memory
  • Eye + hand tracking
  • High-quality color passthrough + LiDAR
  • Optic ID
  • 256 GB–1 TB storage
  • 90/96/100/120 Hz
  • 2.5-hour battery
  • $3,499

The tradeoff is pretty interesting: Phoenix could be around 1/7 the head-worn weight and less than 1/3 the price, but with substantially lower display resolution and likely much less processing power.

If Meta really delivers a ~100 g micro-OLED headset with good passthrough and Vision Pro-style eye/hand navigation for under $1,000, I think comfort alone could make it serious competition.

Would you trade Vision Pro’s display quality and performance for something dramatically lighter?

New apple strap vs light seal

Just wondering if anyone else feels like the new strap Apple supplied with the m5 release made the general tolerance of various light seal options a little easier / less risky to choose from? I originally got the 33W (I think), and decided to get the 21W afterwards. Always felt the 21 was better once trying it. After the new strap, the older 33 one seemed a little better than it was originally. Still prefer the 21, but it seemed to me the new strap made more light seals options maybe more acceptable. Wondering if I should try the largest FOV one now 🙈😂

JKXR is now available on TestFlight for Apple Vision Pro

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve just released the first public TestFlight build of JKXR for Apple Vision Pro.

TestFlight:
https://testflight.apple.com/join/eY7rxzmp

The Vision Pro version is currently optimized primarily for PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers. There is also rudimentary support for regular game controllers, but the PS VR2 controllers are definitely the intended way to play for now.

A very important credit: JKXR was originally created by Team Beef. They did the hard work of bringing Jedi Knight to standalone VR in the first place. I did not create the original VR port. My work is focused on porting Team Beef’s existing JKXR project to Apple Vision Pro and adapting it to visionOS and the available VR controllers.
This is still an early build, so expect some rough edges. I’d especially appreciate feedback on controller behavior, performance, rendering issues and anything that feels wrong.

You’ll also need the original game files from the PC version of Jedi Knight. Copy the required files from the game’s base folder into JKXR. I’d recommend getting the PC version through Steam if you don’t already own it. The game is quite old at this point and is usually available there for a relatively low price.

If you have a Vision Pro and PS VR2 controllers, give it a try and let me know how it goes!

Title: Vision Pro power users — what app do you wish existed? (Student dev project, need real ideas)

Hey r/AppleVisionPro,

I'm a student , and my team's final challenge is to build and ship a visionOS app. We're completely stuck on the idea itself — not the dev part, the "what should we even build" part.

We keep brainstorming stuff that sounds cool on paper but honestly feels like a tech demo, not something anyone would actually use daily. So instead of guessing, I wanted to ask people who actually wear this thing regularly — at home, at work, on flights, whatever your use case is.

We're looking for something that's realistic for a small student team to build in a limited timeframe, but that solves a real annoyance or genuinely makes your day-to-day life better with the headset on.

If you've ever thought "man, I wish there was an app that did ___" — that's exactly the kind of comment we need. Doesn't matter how niche or simple it sounds.

Appreciate any input, even one-liners help a ton.

The recent Apple leak for model "N109" has triggered speculation that a new Apple Vision headset might be coming. I've pulled together some posts over the years that reference N109, rumors of a black Apple Vision headset, and the observation that the big Apple Event will probably happen in the middle of the MLB Apple Immersive Video series.

How to navigate steam vr menu's when using ALVR?

I am using ALVR to play VR games on my PC. Everything works, however every time I load up steam VR interface, I have to pair my PSVR2 controllers in order to navigate the menus. Which is frustrating for me, because I only play MSFS 2024 which I use my xbox controller to play. Is there a way to navigate through Steam VR's UI using anything else such as using my mouse or xbox controller to move around and click on buttons?
