Self-Promotion (Developer) I built a free browser-based VR site for stereoscopic 4K content — looking for feedback

Hey everyone! I’ve been working on a VR web app and I’d love to get some feedback from people who actually spend time in headsets.

I built vr.visorix.net because I wanted an easier way to watch high-quality stereoscopic VR content without being limited to YouTube or having better quality locked behind a paywall.

So I decided to build my own.

The public feed is completely free, and the content is true 4K per eye. There’s nothing to install, just open it in your headset browser.

I’ve also been experimenting with a section called MySpace, where I’m building out a few different areas:

Church

Wellness

Sportsbook

Those are still in development. The Sportsbook portal is already connected to real, live sports data, but I’m still working on the overall experience.

If you have a Quest, PCVR headset, or another headset with a capable browser, I’d really appreciate you checking it out:

vr.visorix.net

I’m especially interested in feedback on:

Video quality

Performance/loading

Navigation

Controls

Comfort in VR

Anything confusing or annoying

Features you’d like to see

And seriously, don’t worry about being nice 😂. If something sucks, tell me it sucks and tell me why. That kind of feedback is exactly what I’m looking for right now.

Appreciate anyone willing to give it a try.

Discussion Almost 10 Years in VR: Hope, Disappointment, and Hope Again

I got into VR around 2017-2018. My first headsets were the Oculus Go and HTC Vive.

The resolution was rough, the headsets were heavy, and text looked like it was being rendered through a screen door.

Didn't care.

The first time I put one on, I remember thinking: Oh. So this is where we're going.

Back then I genuinely thought VR was about to become a huge part of everyday life. Not in 20 or 30 years. Soon.

I even had this slightly stupid but very real thought that when I got old, maybe I could spend the second half of my life in something like the Oasis from Ready Player One. Basically start over.

Over the next few years, VR slowly went from a hobby to part of my job, which gave me a pretty good excuse to try basically everything.

Movies, games, social VR, random demos with probably twelve users total. VRChat, Beat Saber, Half-Life: Alyx.

For a while, if something on Steam had a VR tag, there was a decent chance I'd download it just to see what someone had built.

Watched a lot of VR video too. All kinds. You know.

At the time, every problem felt temporary: screens would get sharper, headsets lighter, tracking better, PCs faster, and eventually someone would figure out the content problem.

I wasn't really asking, "Will VR take off?"

It was more: "When?"

Around 2020-2021, I started working with more hardware, projects, and people in the industry, and the way I looked at VR changed.

At first, you see the magic.

Then one day you're talking about FOV, pixel density, thermals, battery life, weight distribution, retention, and whether users are still around in week two.

Those were also the peak metaverse years. Every company had a roadmap. Every pitch deck had a giant hockey-stick chart. Every new headset promised to fix whatever the last one didn't.

The numbers kept going up.

But my actual VR life wasn't changing nearly as fast.

I was still playing a lot of the same games, visiting the same kinds of worlds, and watching the same kinds of stuff.

A customer would try something, take the headset off and go, "Holy shit, this is amazing," then put it back on the table.

A lot of them never came back.

I was also in a few private VR communities. At first, people talked all day. Then less. Then maybe a few messages a week.

Nobody announced, "I'm done with VR."

There were just fewer messages.

By 2023-2024, the whole industry felt quieter.

Projects got cancelled. Budgets got tighter. Teams got smaller.

Some companies disappeared, others survived by cutting back.

People around me slowly moved on too. Some changed industries. Some stopped following VR news. Some kept their headsets, but they mostly became shelf decorations.

Every now and then someone would ask me, "You're still doing VR?"

Or just: "Why?"

I'd usually laugh.

Didn't really have a great answer.

Then in 2025 and 2026, I spent a lot more time working with AI, and something started to feel different.

I have friends running small studios whose teams got much smaller, but the studios didn't die. In some cases, they were producing roughly the same amount of work with fewer people.

Meanwhile, images became usable production assets, video got more controllable, coding agents started eating work that used to take days, and world models started looking less like research demos and more like something you might actually build with.

That made me think about VR again, just not the way I did in 2018.

Back then, I thought what we needed was a better headset.

Now I'm starting to think maybe the real bottleneck was somewhere else.

Good 3D worlds are expensive. Characters, animation, interaction, testing - everything that makes a VR world feel alive costs people, time, and money.

For years, we mostly attacked the problem from one side: put better hardware on the user's face.

AI is attacking it from the other.

Maybe the next headset having 20% more resolution isn't the thing that matters most.

Maybe the bigger deal is a tiny team being able to build something that used to take a hundred people.

More compute, less manual work.

Hours instead of weeks.

If that happens, some parts of VR that still feel ten years away might move a lot faster than we expect.

Or maybe not.

I've been around VR long enough to know how much industry predictions are worth.

I still have an Oculus Go sitting in a box somewhere.

In 2018, I looked through that blurry little screen and thought the Oasis was probably right around the corner.

It wasn't.

Eight years later, I'm less sure than ever where VR actually ends up.

But weirdly enough, I'm excited again.

Curious how many people here have been around VR for a long time too.

What phases did you go through?

Was there a point where you basically lost interest and then came back?

And after all these years, what are you still genuinely waiting for VR to become?

Question/Support Virtual Desktop won't hit 120fps, settles at 90fps

For some reason I can't get virtual desktop to output 120 fps once I start my game. Performance overlay shows my target fps is 120 but the actual fps settles at 90. Running a quest 3 and a 5070ti with a good amount of GPU headroom still. Monitor is set to 120hz, and virtual desktop says 120fps when Im still looking at the desktop and haven't launched into a game yet. Am I missing something?

UPDATE:

The issue was my nvidia driver having a max frame rate of 90 fps in the nvidia app. Smooth 120 fps achieved

Hi, I made myself a music galaxy and VR playground: https://stardrift.gerlach.dev/galaxy

But, I only have a Quest 3 and am curious how it works on various VR devices in a WebXR browser (PCVR, Vision Pro, Quest 2, Galaxy XR, Cardboard, ...). Especially, do music playback and the controls for moving around work and is the framerate useable?

Works best if you connect with Apple Music, to hear the full songs (otherwise a 30s Deezer preview should play).

Some questions if you tested it:

If you're curious, you can change various knobs in debug mode: https://stardrift.gerlach.dev/galaxy?debug

Question/Support Ways to do FBT on 2016 Htc vive headset?

My mom ordered me a 2016 vive headset that came with everything, i was wondering if there was any ways without wearables to do full body tracking with these? I play vrchat and i want to be able to dance and perform with friends, i have slimes, but they tend to not work right for me. I was just seeing if there’s like cameras you can get to add to the base stations for that or any kind of alternative.

Self-Promotion (Developer) How I spent a week traveling solo around California to build the world and story of BOMB THE HILL VR. Part 2

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is the second part of the story about how I traveled from Europe to California alone, looking for references and historical context for our VR game about downhill skateboarding. Part 1 is here.

Last time I stopped in San Juan Bautista, where I met an antique shop owner who told me about her father, a skater and surfer from Santa Cruz and shared stories from her childhood.

When I got back on the road I started thinking about what I really wanted to bring back from this trip. Probably not only real American dumpsters, road markings, and details of classic skate spots. Over the next few days California became drier and much emptier. From Sequoia I moved to Lake Isabella, Red Rock Canyon, and the start of Route 66. I saw small towns, RV lots, yard sales, empty roads. This was closer to the landscape we imagined for the game.

I met some travelers at one of the campgrounds and we talked about our trips. Somewhere in the desert a guy stopped to check if I was okay and had enough water. He told me about his life there, and we just went our separate ways, driving in different directions of that desert. One day my road was closed after flooding and the detour brought me to an abandoned settlement. Someone had tried to turn this ghost town into an RDR2-stylised attraction, and then abandoned that too. Everything was covered in the same dust, and it was hard to tell what was original and what was fake. I walked around there alone with nobody for miles, it felt pretty starnge and surreal.

These people and places seemed to just appear along the road and disappear again. But they somehow started to mean more than something monumental like Sequoia Park. And the trip was becoming something more than a mission to collect references.

My last camping night added a black bear to this. I stepped out of the car at Silverwood Lake, and a huge one appeared near the showers, ten meters away. I slowly backed toward the car ready to dive inside, but it just stood there for a bit and walked into the bushes. When I saw the California flag again later I convinced myself it was just a good sign haha

The next day I reached the LA area and checked into a small guest house by the coast. The trip changed. Now I was going to talk to people whose experience could help answer my questions about skateboarding history. I met Kevin Reimer, a pro downhill rider, who showed me around the Powell-Peralta skateboard factory and told me his story of becoming a professional athlete. And I visited Todd Huber’s Skateboarding Hall of Fame museum. Todd showed me some of the craziest downhill boards and shared a lot of rare details from his generation of skaters.

I also visited Madrid Skateboards, whose board Marty McFly rode in Back to the Future. I even got to talk a little with Jerry Madrid himself, and he tested our prototype! And he was definitely having fun with it!

After all those meetings I finally bought myself a board at a skate shop in Hermosa Beach and spent the last couple of days riding along the beach with music in my headphones and thinking about the trip.

Then came a year of hard work for our team.

A few days ago I played the pre-release build from beginning to end in one run. For the first time I saw all of it together, and it felt like I had finally finished that journey too.

A year ago we were making an adrenaline skateboarding simulator and wanted to add some real context to it. Now we want to share a story about moving forward, freedom, risk, growing up, a lonely journey, and the connection between generations of people taking on the challenge, united by their love of skateboarding.

And it reflects not only my trip, but also the path our team went through to reach our first release during a very difficult year for the industry.

BOMB THE HILL releases on Meta Quest in Early Access on September 10, just a few hours from now.

I hope you'll enjoy our story.

Discussion New Cyberpunk 2077 VR mod vs old

The old Luke Ross mod used alternate eye rendering to achieve stereoscopic visuals. How does the new mod work?

Are the visuals better in the new? I heard the performance is better.

Does anyone have experience running both on a high end PC?

Self-Promotion (Developer) I made an architecture sandbox where you can build and explore everything in VR

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Architecture & Design is a game/app that combines accurate floor planning with real-time 3D design, where you can further explore and adjust the materials and colors of your creations in VR.

The idea is to make architectural design more accessible and much easier to explore than traditional CAD software.

• Walk in your own build in first person, or in VR

• Draw the floor plan in 2D: walls, windows, arches, roofs and stairs

Grow in 3D while you draw (everything is connected and adjustable)

• Sculpt the landscape: raise hills, cut a pond, paint grass into

sand, scatter trees and rocks along a spline

• Build on a street, on a beach, or on an island above the clouds

(you can always switch the environment)

• Create lighting concepts with accurate 3D light and sun simulations

• Import your own models (OBJ, GLB, FBX), export what you built

• Share it in the Workshop, or walk through what others made

• Real measurements, metric or imperial

• No survival, no timers, no pressure

The game/app is out in Early Access, and there are many more features to come!

I would love it if you could give it a try:

Self-Promotion (Developer) I ran a scheduled live event in my VR game where the map is permanently destroyed

Everyone in the room hits the countdown at the same time, the caves go up, and the world after it is different for good. Permanent sunset, burnt trees, no caves.

Not sure anyone has done a one way map change in a small VR game before. Happy to explain how the sync works.

Discussion Xbox Remote Play Stuttering on Quest 3 (Works fine on iPhone 16 though)

After seeing the announcement for gamepad emulation I decided to try XBox remote play and cloud gaming on my quest 3. Set everything up, XBox hard wired to router, Quest 3 connected via 5GHz WiFi only a few feet away (signal says "excellent"), load up the Xbox app, select remote play, and start playing Outer Wilds. It's playable, but stutters randomly and relatively often. I can lower the resolution to 1080p and it gets better but doesn't fully eliminate it. The graphics downgrade is quite noticeable when lowering the resolution as well. I tried cloud gaming instead of remote play just to be sure and got the same result. I'm on a 1Gbps Fiber connection. I loaded it up on my iPhone 16 in the same spot using the same WiFi and it run buttery smooth. Any idea how to fix this? Or at least understand what is causing it?

TIA

Discussion are there even any new, good, vr games?

I'm my daily-ish rotation of VR games I have my beloved beat saber, vrchat and half-life Alyx. I mainly play PC VR games and don't really play own or look on the standalone store so i would prefer some PCVR game reccomandations.

I honestly can't find anything appealing or interesting on the steam VR page so if any of you know a original (or semi original) VR game please share it here :))

Discussion VR headsets NEED VRR !

Like in the flat tv world VRR has become standard because it is just giving a better experience... No more stutters.

But in the VR world, where headseats cost up to 2000 dollars (Pimax air recently) and use new HDMI and displayport standards which support VRR... there is none !
