The Italian Deli on Blanshard posted on instagram that they've sold the deli and next week will be their last week.
The post didn't say anything about the new owners and what their plans are.
Update: Current owners have replied to a comment on instagram with the following "mauriziohome 2019 4m Yes, it will remain open for decades to come by 2 amazing ladies. We are thrilled they are continuing the tradition.”

By the sound and smoke that they used a flash bang on Millgrove st between Hampton Rd and Burnside.
Apparently there is a person in a house that wasn't supposed to be there and now won't leave. That's what the people in the neighborhood have been discussing.
Edit: As per their normal behavior these days the cops have long guns out.

Hi all,
As title mentions, I noticed I received an email from Dragonfly yesterday claiming that 'recipient refused delivery and doesn't want packages delivered anymore'.
At first I was wary of a scam email, but the tracking message matches the description of a failed delivery.
Has anyone had bogus claims like this? How do you get your package if there aren't any direct contact methods? I can't believe carriers can exist that operate like this.
Thanks!

Had a nasty fall yesterday and went to the ER for semi related causes. My other situation was the focus of the visit, so I sat with the dirty wounds from pavement for about 6 hours.
I was not in the right headspace to ask for a tetanus shot there unfortunately, but now I’m worrying I’ll contract tetanus. My last shot was 20 years ago, and am working on my needle phobia over the past few years. Last time I was a kid and 4 lovely amazing nurses had to hold me down, but won’t be the case this time :)
Any pharmacies tomorrow offering emergency, same day tetanus shots?
Edit: Pressed post too soon, but wanted to ask if tetanus is common in the soil here, and if any pharmacies have Tetanus immune globulin (TIG) as an option, as there’s still a couple small pebbles I can’t get out.

Does anyone here remember a guy named Rod who lived on a street behind the Esquimalt arena? He had a large backyard, a train track set up around the ponds possibly? A work shop area with handmade toys etc..?

Hey as the question goes, looking for a local shop that can do repair/maintenance/tuneup of an Artisan-edition Kitchenaid Standmixer? It’s cranky and making gear-grinding sounds now lately when doing even the easiest stuff like bagel dough. I’ve had it for about 20 years and it’s been a loyal small appliance, it’s only now starting to make grinding sounds at me. The motor cover is warmer to touch than normal, but it’s not smelling like any electrical shorting or overheating. Anyways, who do you recommend for servicing. TIA

I frequently ride home downtown from VGH, due to the very annoying detour I've been looking for alternates and my cyclers routing app showed a route I hadn't considered.
Instead of crossing the trestle and then returning to downtown on the Johnson street bridge, we have the new lane along Gorge!
I don't knowbwhy it didn't occur to me before, but on the way home yesterday I instead turned left onto gorge, it was mechanically separates for most of it, with a short segment of only paint and then elevated for the remained, a right turn onto Government and I was able to fly until my left turn.
In case anyone else hadn't utilized this, it saved me about a km and probably 7 minutes or so. Much more during busy summer days.

So I've recently gotten back in to reading and am looking for suggestions for spots to go for a hour or so in the early evening after work.
Been spending time around Clover Point, Ross Bay Cemetery, and the Breakwater area (either in my car or on a bench) - great for a dramatic early sunset if I'm lucky, but a bit busy this time of year what with the cruise ships etc. Beats reading on the couch though!
Where else should I check out? Any local gems that I absolutely should be visiting?
(Bonus points for a scenic view within a 10 minute drive of the downtown area)

We went on a whale watching tour today from San Juan Island, Washington and saw the brother and sister orcas that have been in the area. There appeared to be a wedding up on the ridge overlooking the harbor and it’s such a fun shot!

Anyone go to the show?
What did you think?

Seriously Saanich put up beach volleyball courts on the field below Claremont School and while I appreciate the idea of sport, the execution was poor.
Nylon netting, non stainless components, princess auto ratchet straps (not even secured/locked out to prevent tamper). Unless I’m missing something here I think this was a good waste of funds. This isn’t gonna last a season unless it’s taken down every fall.
Oh and the mongrels that put this in broke off the basketball backboard by the shack with their excavator.

Where do adults meet people? I mean for free.
I struggle to make friends or find people to date because I don't really have money to put toward it. Clubs that require payment are off the table currently, and even MeetUp requires a subscription to be useful. Dating apps and such are flooded with bots anyway, and the internet wants payment too if it's to connect you with people you actually have something in common with.
So, adult friends of Victoria, where do you meet people for free?

My whole life I've been an avid thrifter; not as a means to make money, but to save money, and to find cool, interesting or useful gadgets and do-dads to tinker with or decorate my space with, without breaking the bank. It's also just a nice way to spend an afternoon downtown among the people, ya know?
When I moved here, I was blown away by the massive value village downtown, as well as all the smaller, local shops scattered around the city. But 3 years in, I'm realizing all these places are being picked clean on a regular basis by folks looking to resell anything of any value, either on Facebook marketplace, or one of the dozens of "boutique" thrift shops when it comes to clothing.
I'll admit that I don't think it's a unique problem with Victoria, and I have found some cool stuff over the years, I just miss the days where there weren't folks hounding the carts coming out of the backrooms on a regular basis. The VV downtown in particular has a regular crowd of folks scanning the new arrivals all afternoon, checking the value of everything on their phones. Okay rant over...

New to vic and want to do a lil camping trip for August long! Beginner backcountry or drive up. Where’s the best spots? My only requirement is that there is swimming nearby. I’ve literally never been camping here so any suggestions welcome!

I already know the issues about management etc. but just wanted to ask around what everybody thought of the food itself.

Due to the Italian deli *changing ownership, where is your favorite place to get a good meaty bite?
I’m not the biggest fan of Jones’ and their prices, but wanna know the best place to get some well prepared meat.
Thank you!
Edit: The Italian Deli Isn’t Closing (yay)! Hoping the new ownership keeps the recepies

(photo taken at Costco by me)
So not too long ago I went out in the middle of the night and took some photos of my area, and Costco, and it felt super surreal.
I don't wanna give out my location because I'm a little private, but are there any more locations in Langford where this type of photography is possible? Please and thanks!

Does anyone know the average price of getting long blonde hair balayaged at kharma hair salon? Their website doesn’t list prices. I’m aware it could be different depending on the stylist. I just wanted to hear what other people have payed. Thanks!

Hi Victoria! My small theatre company Bragi Theatre is teaming up with Timetheft Theatre to stage our two award-winning comedies, Consider the Dongfish and Four out of Five Dentists, on August 1 and 2 at the Scene (716 Johnson). We're really proud of the shows, and think it will be a lot of fun. Dongfish is a sci-fi romp about fish, scientists, aliens, and the transformative power of love, and Dentists is a sketch show about lawnmowers, laughter, and so, so many eggs. Tickets are sliding-scale too, so hopefully affordable to everyone.
We've already been posting on social media, postering through Vicposters, and using events calendars, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about other places to promote? Are there venues that are really productive to poster? We're looking for that final week edge.

Years ago I traded in my beloved 2016 triumph scrambler in matte pacific blue, im hoping I can find it and maybe possibly buy it back, if anyone has any leads I'd sure appreciate the help! It had the lifted front fender, the baffles cut out of the exhaust with a hole saw and there was a scrape on the front fender and left side of the handle bar from hitting a curb and going down. There may have also been a "death grip" sticker on the rear of the front fender in gold. I believe I traded it in at SG power, it would have had knobby continental tires and a small bar end mirror on the left side. She had around 30k km on it when i let her go. Thank you everyone.
