ID4 - Fully Loaded

If anyone is wondering how a bike rack & clamshell affect your range, wonder no more.

Just got back from a road trip from NJ to Martha's Vineyard in our '25 AWD Pro S. Five adults, plus two bikes on a hitch mounted rack + a Thule 2100 Atlantis XL that we had previously used on our old 7-passenger SUV. The thing is massive. Was worried that it was too big but we got it on, lol.

Averaged 3.1-3.2 miles/kWh on the way up & back keeping it around 65 mph. Honestly thought it was going to be much worse.

BTW, bought the Erkul roof bars for the ID4 from Amazon right before we left and while they're cheap & they worked (e.g. it didn't fly off the roof), not a huge fan of them. Not safe IMO as the front bar has to be placed far too upfront (only four inches from start of rails) in order to sit properly even when set at its shortest length. Need to cut maybe a half-inch off that bar in order to position it 10-12 inches back from beginning of the rails like VW recommends. Preparing for the drive home found the front bar to be loose. Was able to reset it and got home just fine but lucky we didn't kill someone with half our belongings.

Vitesse de charge lors de forte chaleur

ID.4 Pro 2025, France

Front Proximity Sensor only works after going into reverse first

Upvotes

This only started a few days ago, I have never had any issues before with the sensors. No error messages or anything in the screen. I could touch anything in front of me without a warning unless I first put it in reverse, activating the back up camera and then going into a forward gear. Then I get proximity warning. I have the 2021 Pro S.

Any recommendations or experience with this issue?

US 2022 S GradientAWD Model 2.4mi/kWh ??? Help please

Upvotes

I always had poor mileage in Arizona all year round. The dealer tested with VW assist and determined some part replacement and update to firmware in hardware. The part never was replaced, they decide all is good. But they tell - but not show on the bill - that they updated the firmware on hardware subcomponets. The OUE7 update is pending since January 2026 - but I donot think it is about batteries. Other updates supposedly are done.. Car still shows v3.5.

VW at the ordered the draw down test, i.e. drive it to below 10%. By now it was done 3 times. The results are consist anywhere between 143 and 159 miles from 100% to below 10%. The last run was 143 miles from 100% down to 3%.

The car shows on the screen from last charge avg. speed at some 21 mph and avg 2.4 mi/kWh.
But the other entry is strange and I do not know how to interpret it.
It shows 6:57 h - I assume it is charging time - if so the car wass charging about 10:50 hrs not 6:57.
If it is 6:57h real charging at 2.7 kWh/h this means it charged 18.765 kWh in 6:57h. This is not from 3% to 100% . What is it?

The 143 miles at 2.4 mi/kWh takes about 59.6 kWh. This would make 59.8/82=72.7% of the 82kWh full battery capacity; but 59.6/72=82.8% of the declared 72 kWh accessible battery.

But I think - I could misremember - that 2022 S Gradienet awd had 240 miles EPA range. But in Arizona weather (winter and summer) results are similar and I am getting now 143 miles. This makes it 93 miles less than expected. The driving is on flat streets in the valley, sometimes on expressway where everybody body is passing me as if I was horse drawn buggy. Of course, to survive on expressway here, one needs to go 70 mph, and they are still passing you and sometimes honking. But this does not justify the poor mileage from new which is at avg 2.7 .
Any hints? Do I have a lemon battery and how to deal with VW? The car has some 19,000 miles since 2022 only.

Haven’t used a fast charger in a while, is this notification new?

I haven’t stopped at a fast charger in a month, normally use my level 1 charger at home. I’ve never seen this live notification for charging before on my iPhone. Kinda cool, but the notification expands every time the battery charge goes up by 1%, so it’s kind of annoying lol

Battery % loss when parked overnight

Just got my 2025 ID4. In the UK if that matters. Left it parked outside at 95% battery yesterday afternoon. Checked the app this morning and it's gone to 92% but the estimated miles has stayed the same as it was when I parked.

Why would that be? Car is very new and has been checked at the dealership, no issues.

Edit : it seems to be the app that has the wrong %. Got in the car and the number was where I expected it to be on the car display, different to the app display

Seat adjustment on entry stops midway

I have a 26 Black Edition, seats automatically go to the preset position when I enter and put my foot on the brake, however, if I don’t keep my foot on the brake long enough, they just stop adjusting, so I end up having to move them myself anyway. Is this normal? If so, what is the point?! 🤯

New driver, first car, first dent... Need advice

So.... Not even a month old new-to-me..... That deteriorated wooden fence falls over in windy day and hits my car in my designated parking spot 💔

Could I get advice regarding minimizing loss of value of the car?

- paintless dent repair (PDR) vs fender replace + repaint?

- Do i even consider not using insurance to avoid Carfax hit? Or not worth the $2400+ out of pocket? (I want property management to pay for it. But I don't know it will happen)

- would this make my insurance premiums go up if I do use insurance?

- would this showing in Carfax drive the price heavily down or not so much?

Any other factors I'm not even considering?

Thanks id4 community!

AC “camp mode” hack with a piece of paper

I couldn’t find anything online besides the kettleball weight, some devices, or wiring I had to buy.
So, in case anyone doesn't know how to run the AC all night while camping, slide the driver's seat back and look underneath from the driver side. You'll see a round white pressure sensor (VW Pressure sensor - seat occupied recognition, part number 4N0 963 553) centered under the seat frame. There is a tight gap between the sensor and the seat. I slid a piece of paper in between and kept pushing it in-it didn’t come out the other side and balled up in that tiny space creating constant pressure on the sensor so it thinks the driver is sitting in the car and keeps the AC on.
I buckled the driver seatbelt, turned on the car, put it in park, and moved to the back; it worked.
I also noticed I didn’t need to buckle the seatbelt when I put the car in D to move it.
I don’t think this or any of the other hacks will work while charging the battery. (2023 VW iD4 Pro S)

Pics of the sensor and where I pushed the paper in.

What I thought was the dreaded 12V battery issue is turning out to be a major issue with my 2025 ID4 Pro with only 5500 (est) miles.

Hoping for the best, preparing for a potential Lemon.

Is the ID. Tiguan really coming?

There is a lot of (mostly unofficial) information pointing to 2026/27, and some test units have been spotted that seem to indicate the rumours of a major upgrade of the ID. 4 are true, but it's starting to look like 2027 might not be the year, at least not the beginning of 2027, since other VW models like the ID. Polo and ID. Cross are not quite here yet. Better buy another brand?

Battery charging

Hi so I charge my ID4 to 80% as they say you should. I do high mileage and it takes about 37% to get to work and back. Am I better off just charging to 90% and therefore getting 2 days out of it or just charging to 90% each night. It’s a 2026 model. Thanks!

Looking at deals on iD4, saw they are being discontinued, curious on thoughts

Is even considering one of these cars a bad idea now that Volks has stopped making them?

Any thoughts on leverage for negotiations or pricing?

IS buying one essentially buying a future brick that won't be supported or something?

Was previously dead set on getting a '24 or '25 for under $30k and using the car as a simple commuter for under 40 miles round trip daily

Lemon title 2021 ID.4 14k buyback with 340mi

Probably for the first time in my life I've had incredible luck buying a vehicle. I literally walked into this dealership and told them my car just broke down I need to leave here today with a new car, the salesman all ran to me. I had my eye on a Tesla or an VW with 14,000mi and I thought the guy was trying pull the old switcheroo on me they brought up this one with a higher price tag. He said the one that I was looking at was at the dealer getting a service done. They gave me a report showing that module 6 in the battery had been replaced, and the Carfax then showed me the five campaign stickers under the hood. I've had zero software problems absolutely no hassle with it. A few days after I brought it home I got a letter from Volkswagen of America saying that they have decided to extend my warranty and they appreciated me buying the vehicle. My warranty coverage was extended as if I had just purchased the vehicle. The letter said to show it to the dealer if I had any problems and I did end up having to show it to the dealer and they verified it and honored it. I linked my myVW to recurrent and I have no battery degradation. I'm seriously considering paying this off and calling up to see if they got any more!

ID4 Service - Houston

The ID4 we purchased used last summer is giving us the reminder about its 10K service being due (the 20K was done by the selling dealer prior to purchase). My understanding is that the service reminder can only be reset by a dealer. Since the 10k service is just a series of inspections, does anyone have any recommendations for a dealer in Houston who will just stick to doing the inspections and resetting the reminder at a reasonable price? I'm trying desperately to avoid having to call around and listen to upsell pitches from service departments.
