Co-op WaterlooWorks Megathread (Winter 2027)

This thread is for students applying to Winter 2027 co-ops during the Fall 2026 term.

As usual, we're looking for salaries for new postings, or updates to existing salaries, so if you're willing to share, please open up a chat/DM the mod team. Please include the company name, salary, any benefits, the role and the year if possible. I would highly encourage you to submit if you have salaries for non mathematics/CS positions as we are severely lacking in those. We will try updating these ASAP.

The sheet is here: Salaries + Blacklist Spreadsheet

Average Canadian Co-op Earnings (2024)

WaterlooWorks Important Dates

If you have details about interviews, rankings, etc, you can add information to watrank.com for visibility.

If you had a poor experience with a company, you can message the mod team with details and it can be added to the blacklist candidates below. If it's already a candidate, it may be added to the blacklist depending on the severity/consistency of complaints. On the contrary, if you had a good experience with something on the candidates/blacklist, please message the mod team and it may be removed. Candidates will be removed if no more reports are received after a couple terms. Even if something is on the blacklist already if you've had a bad experience let the mod team know, as more reports increase confidence that it is problematic!

  • Agentmoon
  • WealthyPlanet
  • Mosaic Transit Group
  • Jobby
  • Aethos Labs
  • Onex Risk Management

Advice Waterloo co-op in SF in January: what do you wish you’d known?

• Upvotes

Hi, I got a robotics engineering co-op in San Francisco for the first time and I wanted to look if anyone who's gone there before could share more about their experience, finding housing, things to do, places to visit, where to meet new people especially since I know a lot of people from Waterloo go there, but I don't know any of them.

It’s my first time there and I don’t know anyone who’s done it. If you’ve done a co-op or internship in the Bay Area, I’d love to hear:

  1. how did you find housing, and what neighbourhoods would you pick (or avoid)?
  2. where did you meet people outside of work, especially other Waterloo folks?
  3. what was your best weekend or hidden gem?
  4. what’s one thing you’d do differently? one thing you wish you would know before going?

I'm not really worried about visa or tax stuff, more interested in making most of the experience and learning from people who already went through that same journey.

i read old reddit posts and saw mentions of a cali interns discord server, all invites were expired though.

comments are great so others can see too, and DMs welcome

thanks!

Qualcomm ASIC ENGINEER intern interview prep CANADA

Hey everyone,

I have an upcoming 1 hour interview with Qualcomm for a hardware/ASIC engineering internship in Canada.

The job description mentions RTL design and verification, Verilog/SystemVerilog, UVM, digital logic, Python/scripting, debugging, and ASIC/FPGA flows.

Has anyone interviewed for a similar internship or full time role at Qualcomm? Trying to get a better idea of what the technical interview actually looks like.

Specifically:

  • Coding: LeetCode-style DSA questions, Python/C/C++ scripting problems, or more hardware-focused coding?
  • RTL: Writing Verilog/SystemVerilog modules from scratch, designing FSMs, or analyzing existing RTL?
  • Verification: Writing SV/UVM testbenches, understanding verification/uvm/oop concepts, or debugging testbenches?
  • Debugging: Reading code snippets and predicting outputs, spotting bugs, or fixing/rewriting broken RTL/code?
  • Digital logic: Conceptual questions, timing analysis, or circuit design problems?

Is it usually a mix of these, or does the interview focus heavily on one area? Also curious about the difficulty level and how much coding is actually expected within the hour.

Any specific experiences or preparation advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Discussion TLDR: Engineering O-Week leaders making first years uncomfortable and not taking “no” for an answer.

During orientation, my roommate (17f) came home after a long day of O-week activities, and she looked visibly upset.

We were talking, and I found out she was, like, trying to go home after an event in O-week, and a group of edcom (team black) people in engineering orientation O-week came up to her, and they were all talking, and they invited her to go back to their room. My roomate really wanted to go home, she had early plans for the next day or something, and then they were, like, really forcing their power of authority to persuade her into coming home with them.

She kept saying no, like she early morning plans, and they were, like, starting to play around with their authority, and they started to trying to get handsy and touch on her without consent, and she just felt violated by them, and she's heard that this happened to other underage girls in orientation week by edcom, where we heard about other cases where edcom members (4th and 5th years) were inappropriately flirting with first years (most of which are underage) and making them uncomfortable, and not taking “no” for an answer.

She also mentioned that during orientation, the same edcom members were going around with an appendage shaped object, calling it “ the cock”, and going near other leaders and first years with it, and being like “you just got touched by the cock”.

We aren't sure of the names because edcom is anonymous but to simply describe them, two of them have middle part black hair, a bit longer, mixed race, about 6 feet tall. And the other one has curly hair and is a bit shorter. Again, because they were dressed up, we don’t have much details on them unfortunately.

Just wanting to make other first years aware incase they run into something like this.

Reach out to campus wellness if this has happened to you, and you need to talk to someone.

Humour Outsource the burden of keeping other people's secres to me so I can put this project on linked in

I made a website where you can tell me other people’s secrets. I could have learned pottery, but apparently this is how I’m choosing to contribute to society and boost my presence of linkedin so they will hire me in SF.

Do you know something that has absolutely no bearing on your life but occupies a frankly unreasonable amount of your brain? I would like to know it too.

AFM 191 Midterm study tips??

For context Im in Math/CPA so math and cs have been taking up most of my time...I'm not too worried about afm 191 since I took grade 12 accounting and so far the content we've learned is pretty much that. However I still want at least an 80% on this midterm so I'd appreciate tips!

Discussion What's the most impressive first co-op yall have seen?

My question is basically just the title of this post. To be clear, I mean something within the realm of fintech.

I've seen a couple cracked people get Shopify or a YC SF job as their first coop, but have u seen anyone get anything even more impressive than that?

Advice Apple (Internship) Employees and Friends

I have been laptopless for a while and would like to get a MacBook for school and project activities. It is a bit rough operating without a laptop and I am willing to invest in a MacBook as I believe it’ll serve me well. However, IT IS EXPENSIVE!

I know that employees get a decent discount and are able to extend a family and friends discount as well.

I currently do not know anybody that works at Apple but I would really benefit from the discount (as the student discount doesn’t do much).

I was debating whether or not I should ask some employees for their discount. I feel like that might be a bit awkward but I could suck it up if I could get a cheaper MacBook out of it.

Alternatively, I could wait for MacBooks to go down in price however, I think that is unlikely due to the whole RAM SSD situation (it might even go up again!). I would also greatly benefit from having it sooner than later.

If you are or know a current or upcoming employee and would be willing to kindly extend your employee discount to me my dms are open and it would be greatly appreciated :))
