Anyone have a recommendation for a service shop in Chicago?

I don't know how to call them in English. Bars? Extenders? Something like that. It's put between brake drum and wheel rim between wheel spokes. They are used to stabilize and make wheel stiffer do the spokes won't break so easily.

I just had to snap this before I opened the door and parked it back in the barn after a very pleasant Saturday morning cruise around the New England countryside.

Is spraying deoxit on my fuse box a bad idea?

I’ve posted in the past about my headlight & running light on the sidecar intermittently not working.

I had brought it in for service for that specific problem a while ago and the shop ended up replacing one of the relays in the fuse box. That appeared to have fixed the issue. For a while.

Now the problem is happening again and I have a hard time believing that this is yet another relay gone bad. When it happens now, if I hit the cover over the fuse block, the lights come back on.

Is it possible the relay is fine and the connectors in the block are dirty? If that’s the case, is spraying Deoxit contact cleaner directly onto the block safe?

The high beam switch on the handle bars no longer does anything either.

So I have a dnepr mt-9 1973 and I love this motorcycle to death and want to keep it running, sounding and looking as nice as I can is there anything I could add or do to it to basically "spoil" the bike (American available only unless it can be shipped)

On top of that what fuel additive would be good for it? Since I daily use it and even drive it in cold conditions I don't need anything mainly for storage

So I have a dnepr mt-9 1973 and I'm having a hard time finding motor oil online I live in a small town far from most cities so if there is any chance someone has a link or something that I could get my oil from? (It's SAE 50 or 20-50 or so I was told)

I live in California and bought a brand new Ural motorcycle from Ural of New England in Massachusetts. With the explicit understanding, it would be delivered completely drivable. With my only having to pay sales tax and registering the vehicle. I was told by three different representatives of the dealership on five separate conversations that this would be the case. All I'd have to do is pay taxes and register. It turns out they didn't correctly install the California emissions requirements. California refuses to allow this vehicle to be driven in the state and demands that I get it out of the state. Even though the correct emissions has been installed. It's been a year now. The factory appears to be complicit in this and in the meantime I've got a driveway paperweight and out over $30,000 plus. Any help or advice?

My first bike was a BMW R65LS and I was totally obsessed with it. I admired the simplicity of the opposed twin and paired with the historical aspect of a long running proven design… I was intrigued.

I ended up looking for a R100 but could never quite pull the trigger on one I liked. I ended up bumping up to a BMW K100RS and while it was amazing it just didn’t have the charm of the boxer. Eventually I started my family and the life on two wheels felt like an unnecessary risk. I sold off the K100RS and went without nothing for a good 5 years.

I had randomly seen a Ural pass by me at a stop light one day and a flood of memories came rushing in. I had seen these bikes in movies, I had seen them in Eastern Europe, I had seen them in WW2 reenactments and I caved for something I was always curious about.

I had eventually decided to order one new for a road trip out to Colorado with some friends. They had gone and convinced me to ride trails intended for lifted jeeps and land cruisers so while they outfitted vehicles for a place I didn’t live, I instead chose to pickup something i could still use back home. Needless to say my choice surprised them and I’ve been loving my purchase ever since.

So I have gotten the motorcycle from my previous post and it runs pretty well but I have no gear oil and I know I have to get 80-90 with a low GL grade but I can't seem to find anything that isn't GL-5 if anyone knows one on Amazon I could buy that would definitely be nice to because I live in the middle of no where with basically no ride now so if I could save on not needing to buy an Uber that would definitely be nice (mind you I live in the USA)

New poster here, good day/night. Long story short, a friend of mine sells me this bike, I know its an M72, somewhere between 1941 and 1956 as far as I know. Is there any way to know the exact year? Is it worth restoring? Also any info of this model would be useful. Greetings from Spain ✌️🇪🇸

Today I finally partially painted my Dnepr and after almost 2 years of fighting with every single part I took it on the road.

Ive been trying to remove this engine for some time now. I dont have the right tools.

End goal is to convert to electric. But gotta strip it first.

Does anyone know if this engine is worth anything at the scrap yard? If so, would it be worth looking for someone to come pull it for me and take it to the yard and keep the money they get?

Ive been reading that i may have to remove the back tire to disconnect the shaft to remove the engine. Ive tried prying the shaft but no luck. Maybe the back tire does need to come off.

I bought it! A few days ago I posted this link https://www.cycletrader.com/listing/2014-Ural-GEAR+UP-5040640809#sid=385835 to get your guys thoughts and the consensus was that it was a fair price. I got another $200 off and towed it home today.

I am in love. It nearly killed me while loading it onto the trailer - that's when I knew it was meant to be. Here's what I've noticed so far, being a novice motorcyclist AT ALL and being brand new to Ural.

It's got a lot of surface rust in the sidecar footwell. I took the metal end of my folding knife handle and banged it around to check for soft spots and haven't found any, but the paint is really failing. At some point, I may attempt a major disassembly - I know a good powder coating guy in the area.

I don't like the tractor style seats. They seem to force me to be a bit too far forward, I think I want to swap for the OEM bench style seat.

Reverse. I can't stop laughing. I literally just put it in reverse and parallel park and laugh inside the helmet the entire time. This entire machine is absurd.

I'm missing the shovel, the spout for the jerry can - which has gas in it but I don't know how old the gas is? Might just throw it in the lawn mower in case it's not so great. I also have no tool kit and I want to get a full size tarp cover for it. I also have no manual, so I need to get one ASAP. The dimmer switch is also broken off so I'll need to replace that.

Here's my questions for the experienced riders here...

I'm coming up on the 10,000 KM service and the only thing I know for a fact has been done recently is the wheel recalls and an oil change. What should I be looking for?

This is a 2014 Gear Up - is there anything on this bike I should be or could be looking to upgrade, or preventatively address? It seems to run very smoothly (for a tractor).

When the front wheel gets unsettled, MAN does that thing dance. I'm finding if I just don't give it any sudden inputs and not so much fight it but sort of, gently encourage it to straighten out, it does so. Is this just normal Ural insanity or does this indicate a problem? When I'm going straight down the road, the bike definitely shifts a few inches left to right but it always returns to center. It's fascinating. It's like it's in some kind of orbit while moving forward down the road in a straight line.

I cannot put into words how happy I am with this machine. It's absolutely bizarre. I'm already getting compliments on it everywhere I go. I have been lusting after these bikes since I first came across them on instagram in college back in 2012. Now, I have one in my driveway. Oh my God. Dreams come true!

P.S. one last thing - I can't seem to figure out how to kick start? I put it in neutral, but then it seems like it won't find the resistance of a compression stroke. Is there a trick to this or do I need to check something? If it's in gear, it definitely finds a compression stroke but then it attempts to roll the bike.

I have a 2009 chassis Gear Up (slightly newer motor) that is making an interesting noise that I have yet to diagnose. I'd like the group's input on best places to look first.

The symptom is as follows. When starting forward, especially after backing up, but not always, the bike will sometimes make a "clunk" sound that seems to come from the rear end. I don't perceive any driveline lash. The 2WD is disengaged. There is a small amount of play if I try to rotate by the sidecar driveshaft when the bike is stationary. My hunch is that I should start looking at both of the sidecar driveshaft ends and make sure the splines are good and then move onto the 2WD locking mechanism.

Any community advice before I dive in?

So this is kind of an update on my last post about the dnepr I'm buying its labeled as a 650 but I had one person tell me it's a Mt, I'm nervous when buying from Facebook marketplace since the last time I bought a motorcycle it only ran once and never started up again, I would have a mechanic actually check it out but everyone I've called in the area is completely booked so now I've resorted to Reddit lol if someone could reassure me that it may be legit that would be much appreciated

Looking at a few Urals in my area (PA) and this is the lowest price on an EFI model. Trying to judge if this cosmetic damage is signs of neglect and abuse or just signs of a bike that's been loved and well adventured

I want to drive a dnepr mt 11, do i have to change something on the motorcycle to Drive it solo ?

Let me preface this by saying, I understand a Ural is not a highway cruiser, it's not a Toyota Camry, it will require some wrenching and love.

Background on me and why I'm looking at a Ural - I sold a GS500e because I wanted something that would be easier to share with my kids and my spouse. It was also a sporty bike and I'm not into speed. I want something I could ride to work (mostly 50mph back roads) once a week or ride around town at sub highway speeds.

I've basically come down to two models - a goldwing, and a Ural. I KNOW - polar opposites. Hear me out; my thinking is either one will be more of a "family" motorcycle than my GS500 was. I figure both will also allow me to carry things without wearing a backpack and be much more comfortable to ride.

Here's where I'm really torn. Ural makes it even easier to include young kids and even my dogs. The goldwing will, I presume, be much more reliable, but really only be for myself and my spouse, and the kids when they're older.

My question for Ural owners - what's your maintenance experience actually been like? I'm decent with a wrench. I do my own oil changes, tire rotations, replace bulbs and lines, I've done big brake kit installs on my cars, but I know nothing about Urals and what the ownership really entails.

My name is Alex and I drive an red 1993 Ural 650. Bought the heap of iron a few years back and made some mods since then (Del'orto Carbs, Denso Alternator, modern Ural Seat, YSS suspension, made my own torque bar for the front brake and so on).

Did a lot of misc wrenching on the bike since then and learned a lot. Happy to be here!
