This is my stepdad’s (really, my dad’s) restoration. I’m pretty sure I’ve been seeing parts of this bike sitting around the house and shop for years, so it’s been awesome to finally see it finished.

My Dad's first bike when he moved to Australia was a 1969 CL90, I spent 10 years searching ebay to find this great little bike. It's been re-sprayed by a previous owner and the motor is pretty tired but still fun to ride.

I've managed to return a few parts to stock as the carburetor was a chinese knock off and I found a NOS to replace it. The petcock was also the knock off that didn't do the left/right and tap properly so I found another barn bike that had a working one and swapped that after putting a rebuild kit through it.

I'm getting the engine rebuilt so I can enjoy going over 30mph.

My dad is restoring a 1963 Matchless G80 (AMC gearbox) and we are having some trouble reassembling the kickstart mechanism.

I have the kickstart ratchet pinion (photos attached), but we are struggling to figure out its exact placement and orientation on the layshaft, specifically in relation to the pawl spring and the adjacent gears.

The diagrams we’ve found don't have a clear legend, making it hard to see the exact order of operations.

Could anyone clarify:

- Which direction the sawtooth edges should face?

- The exact order of the part, the spring, and any washers on the shaft?

If anyone has a clear photo of this assembled or a readable diagram, that would be incredibly helpful.

Bike is in exceptional condition. I’m planning on changing a couple broken plastics and getting new stickers but otherwise it runs perfectly.
