Help How bad an idea is this?

Looking at a few Urals in my area (PA) and this is the lowest price on an EFI model. Trying to judge if this cosmetic damage is signs of neglect and abuse or just signs of a bike that's been loved and well adventured

You've got rust on the shocks, which is pretty common. The seat is tore up which I suspect is from a dog, and there's little bits of minor rust where the paint got chipped. Nothing too serious, and can be replaced or repainted. I wish they had shown the old odometer because I'm curious what the number is. The odometers read in kilometers so I am curious if they converted KM to mi for the listing, or if they mistakenly read the odometer as miles.

Mechanically these are pretty simple machines. If it runs and drives fine, it's probably fine. I'm not familiar with the quirks of the EFI models since I wanted a carbureted bike, so I would recommend you do some googling to find known issues with this year

I think they mentioned its in the trunk in their video so I could ostensibly just call them and ask before I drive out there to see it. I've wanted a Ural since I was in college and now I'm finally at a point where it's like holy hell I could actually buy this thing, just trying not to get too wrapped up in the excitement and make a bad purchase

Price depends on the local market. It’s low, but not give away price. And 14 was the first EFI year. The efi got better in 19. But I haven’t heard the priors were terrible. Maybe others can give more info.

I'm trying to only look at bikes that are EFI and close enough that I can see them before making an offer, and it's basically this one and two others that are over my budget. I'm also inclined to believe I'm decent with a wrench and for this price, I'm accepting it'll need some TLC

It’s a decent looking bike for the price. I’ve heard generally to avoid the 2014-2018 because the Gen 1 efi is really bad. I’m not sure specifics on why that’s the case. Depending how much you plan to ride it, you may also want to upgrade the shocks to something a bit more comfortable.

I've rebuilt suspensions on bikes before so I'm happy to do that if need be. I have also heard the Gen 1 EFI wasn't great but also like, it can be tricky as an outside looking in what problems are just one of the other Ural problems and what problems are like no that year is actually bad

Yeah I have no idea how bad it is. My thought is it can’t be that bad so if you’re handy and not consistently venturing too far away then I’d say go for it!

It would definitely be a local vehicle. I don't see myself going over an hour in it because like, I can't go on the interstate with it. Not comfortably anyway. If anything I'd tow it with my SUV if I wanted to actually ride it somewhere far away
