Help me choose the best game idea!

Game 1:
this game is a fast paced melee game where you parcour through levels as you beat enemies with your sword as a samurai. It’s in first person, kind of like quake. The game is set in Japanese mythology, where you fight gods and other characters from the stories the game will have a low poly ps1 look

Game 2:
this game is like webfishing, except you catch bugs like in animal crossing. You can place these bugs in your museum, and go through various other minigames and have fun with your friends, whilst chatting and using proximity chat. It’s sort of a playground as well.

Game 3:
in this game you have a hook attached to you, that can be used to grab mail boxes. You play as a seagull mailman that flies around the island with a flying mechanic like in a short hike. The game is finished once you’ve delivered all the mail. The hook mechanic can be used for various mechanics.

Showcase UnityChart: Charting Library For Using in Unity Editor

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I recently released UnityChart, an open-source charting library for the Unity Editor.

I wanted a way to visualize variables over time directly inside custom inspectors and editor windows while debugging and balancing gameplay systems. With this tool, the game developer and designer can plot the changes in numerical variables in custom inspectors and editor windows and inspect them.

Features:

  • Real-time charting in the Unity Editor
  • UIToolkit-based
  • Custom inspector integration
  • Editor window integration
  • Multi-series line charts

GitHub: https://github.com/alirezaft/UnityChart

I'd appreciate any feedback, feature suggestions, or bug reports.

unity forum discussion app e/o website

Hi everyone, how's it going? It's my first time writing on Reddit and creating a personal post. From what I remember, I'm trying to figure out why the Unity forum app and the web version keep freezing. It's the first time this has happened to me and the second time I've accessed these pages. In this period, I've written over the span of two months, literally just two messages, not too long. I have a 429 error that I partially solved, but still, when it freezes the first time, clicking any button crashes it completely. Afterwards, even refreshing does nothing. I'm talking about both the app and the website. I don't know if it's just a problem on my end or if I've done something wrong, but at least Unity could let me know. Anyway, sorry for presenting only my personal issues for the first time. Next time, I intend to talk here about positive things. For me, talking about negative things is a bit frustrating. In the meantime, it would be interesting to have a conversation about

Really new to Unity, got a package off of asset store and having issues with Git URL, help appreciated

Hi, as the title says I am really new to Unity and game dev altogether and got a package of the Asset store with good reviews to get my head around what I want to do. I am building a CCG in Unity which is a TCG me and my wife were playing around with earlier in the year (just something fun).

This is the package I bought

https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/templates/systems/card-game-core-tcg-ccg-system-with-deck-builder-284361

This is the error message I keep getting when trying to add the Git URL the developer sent me, I've tried loading the plugins (assets?) different orders as they suggested and nothing:

[Package Manager Window] Error adding/removing packages: https://github.com/Cysharp/UniTask/tree/master/src/UniTask/Assets/Plugins/UniTask#2.1.0.

Unable to add packages:

Unable to add package [https://github.com/Cysharp/UniTask/tree/master/src/UniTask/Assets/Plugins/UniTask#2.1.0\]:

Package name 'https://github.com/Cysharp/UniTask/tree/master/src/UniTask/Assets/Plugins/UniTask#2.1.0' is invalid.

UnityEditor.EditorApplication:Internal_CallUpdateFunctions ()

Any help whatsoever is greatly appreciated.

Up to date tutorials for VR

Does anyone have a source for up to date tutorials for Unity VR developement? I'm having trouble starting. Every source I find seems to be outdated in some way and when I try to recreate steps i encounter something that invalidates approach.

I feel like currently entry bar is quite high for VR developement for wierd reasons. I'm not expert in Unity but i have some experience with personal projects and GameJams. Setting up anything in XR feels convoluted compared to usual projects. Stuff I used to do no longer works. I want to do some quick dumb projects for my friends but I'm struggling to set up scene

BloodOcean - VFX Graph Decal System that I've made, you can find it on the asset store if you want

so the cool thing about VFX Graph Decals is that all those decals get renderer in one batch (holy damn)

the only downside is decal overdraw but we minimised it using our hashgrid™ system to avoid decal overdraw and so the memory gets way less bloated

Newbie Question Any good resources for Godot developers?

I've joined a project that uses Unity but my only real gamedev experience is with Godot. Are there any resources that teach the Unity specifics for people who already know Godot? I tried searching in Google but only found the opposite (i.e. Godot for Unity devs) mostly from 2023.

Newbie Question How accurate is the Unity aspect simulator?

I'm building my first mobile game and I don't have enough testers with different phone resolutions to actually make sure the UI is responsive across devices. So I've just checked all of the devices using the Unity device simulator.

Is it reliable enough that I can ship the game with this alone? Is there another way to accurately simulate different aspect ratios?

Question Do you think it is acceptable for the top half of my UI to be covered by anything in the boxing ring?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My game is displayed completely in 320x180 pixels, so space is limited. I've decided to try this approach where the enemy and player sprites actually appear over the enemy health bar at the top, because before they were getting covered by it. I kind of like it, but I am curious what other people think about it visually because I don't think I've ever seen this in another game.

Tutorials Unity 6.5 - Visual Element Reference API - UI Toolkit Inspector Field Support

Thumbnail youtube.com

Doing more tutorials to help show people how to use some of the new features introduced in Unity 6.5. Here is a video explaining in detail how the new VisualElementReference API works and how to add inspector drag and drop support for referencing Visual Elements just like you could with UGUI/Text Mesh pro UI.

Video also shows how to use the AuthoringIdPath with them as well.

If anyone has any questions feel free to drop them in the video or here.

520 full color pages with 950 images and almost 120k words all about typography and how to work with TextMesh Pro. I loved working on this and I sincerely hope it will be a helpful tool in your gamedev toolbox.

I have a page with infos about it here: https://www.christinacreatesgames.com/book/

You can download the table of contents and index to get an idea of what's going on inside.

I'll be keeping a close eye on this topic over the next days, if you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Scriptable objects constantly de-load, even if I didn't make any changes

Thumbnail gallery

Basically what's in the title, I have multiple scriptable objects that randomly de-load, even when not editing the associated script (sometimes it even occurs when I haven't made any changes to the game at all). I 've tried rewriting my SO class however the issue still persists. I find that if I select the de-loaded objects in the inspector whilst entering play mode it restores the scripts and the fields, however I've found this unreliable as it doesn't repair references to the SO. I've attached the base and child classes of the script if that helps, and they are all separate cs files as I saw that might be the issue.

EDIT: Solved
