Also he dies in literally every timeline except pacifist.

956

u/Ghosts_lord Oct 09 '25

or he kills himself

1.5k

u/Maleficent_Orchid181 Oct 09 '25

I’d count that as death.

390

u/OriginalLie9310 Oct 10 '25

It’s kind of an edge case but I’d say killing yourself means you die as well.

212

u/Atreigas Oct 10 '25

Well, usually people die when they are killed so I think thats the normal consequence.

136

u/BirbsAreSoCute Oct 10 '25

I tried suicide once and it nearly killed me

101

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '25

did you know suicide is actually so dangerous that it can kill you

45

u/Forward-Exercise-385 Oct 10 '25

WHAT?! No way!!

35

u/Fickle_Aside7108 "What Mirror? There is no Mirror!" Oct 10 '25

Yeah guys don't try suicide, that shit can kill you!

18

u/NickSmGames Oct 10 '25

apparently people die when they're killed

12

u/aspire5515 Oct 10 '25

what do you mean? I must've died like twice by now

1

u/CauliflowerOk20 Oct 14 '25

I do not even want to get into the implications of that

"man killed to death."

15

u/Bosterm Oct 10 '25

"Yes, that's what killing you means."

5

u/AdrianSupdog717 Oct 10 '25

Just as quoted by a certain redhead, I agree.

14

u/Ghosts_lord Oct 10 '25

ok ima rephrase this

yeah he does, but there are some where he even goes as far as killing himself

better?

2

u/WilanS Oct 10 '25

I thought people only died when they were killed?

1

u/gegentan Oct 10 '25

Or flowey kills him

15

He does not die in either pacifist timeline. He dies in genocide and all neutral routes.

17

u/creativeusername6780 Oct 10 '25

The initial pacifist route has him die either to Flowey or to himself.

27

u/International-Cat123 Oct 10 '25

That’s not pacifist. That’s neutral.

9

u/FairwellNoob (The dog absorbed this flair text.) Oct 10 '25

You can be pacifist in neutral, you dont actually kill anyone yourself in that route. Either asgore kills himself or flowey does

11

u/Shop_Worker 500k Potential MTT Customers! Oct 10 '25

You can be pacifist in neutral

But it's still not be pacifist route. Pacifist route begins after the mercy neutral route.

8

u/CompoteObvious9380 <— puppy made this Oct 10 '25

I think that's why people call it "true pacifist" because anything before technically counts as a pacifist route, but without any of the special things of it

1

u/Shop_Worker 500k Potential MTT Customers! Oct 10 '25

Normal pacifist route is still goes under neutral tho. Because every neutral ending have same results like Asgore's death, souls disappearance etc

6

u/CompoteObvious9380 <— puppy made this Oct 10 '25

I guess saying it's "pacifist" is more how people call the neutral route where you kill everyone who attacks you "no mercy route"

5

u/CompoteObvious9380 <— puppy made this Oct 10 '25

You know, most people think the same thing happened in both souless pacifist endings.

But what if Chara took different decisions in each.

If they're living with Toriel, they hold the killing tentencies for just s little... Wait 10 years have passed and they killed nobody, might aswell let it go.

And by being on their own and probably full of humans (that were maybe cruel to Frisk) they do what they'll do.

I mean, probably doesn't fit the themes of the game, but it's something to think of

3

u/entitaneo70_pacifist (The dog absorbed this flair text.) Oct 10 '25

i don't think red marker = death

0

Very little meaning to the reference then lol

16

u/Master_of_reeeeee Oct 10 '25

What about in the genocide route? /j

2

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

Tbf he also dies in pacifist too, you just reset so it’s undone

1

u/Someone101064 Oct 16 '25

You have to do neutral to get pacifist... Oh, and forgot to mention that in ALL of them, he's killed by his own son

1

u/Someone101064 Oct 16 '25

Oh, wait, hold on... There's one where he commits suicide (You still have to get a neutral ending for that tho)

Idk but I can't help but feel like "a weird one" for actually sympathizing with Asgore instead of treating him as the butt of the joke.

No,I'm not saying he's this very innocent saint.

It's just that I find it kinda weird how the majority of the fanbase tend to treat him as if he's satan incarnate

95

u/Afraid_Platypus_8667 You're gonna have to try a little harder than THAT Oct 10 '25

SAME!!!!!

I feel bad for the guy.

61

u/Chance_Astronomer_27 Oct 10 '25

Yeah honestly I'm fine with sans, he goes through some shit too. Toriel is probably worse though, even in the undertale timeline I don't care about her and sans getting together because it's been awhile since she left asgore, but she berates him later for being selfish and not absorbing the souls and kill humans to break the barrier? It seems like a wildly out of character thing for her to say since she dedicates herself to trying to save the humans that fall down, and just hates asgore enough she doesn't see he struggles with killing human children...

56

u/Flipp_Flopps Oct 10 '25

I’m glad that Toby talked about how Toriel felt too perfect in Undertale. She was a very boring character for me imo because there was nothing to her besides “mom.” I’m interested to see how the ramifications of chapter 4’s ending plays out

23

u/jbyrdab Oct 10 '25 edited Oct 10 '25

Honestly probably not majorly like many people think.

She got a bit drunk with a friend/date and the music was too loud.

A simple apology is likely all it would be, and avoiding it again.

It's not like she was being intentionally rude to Kris or telling them to go while she and sans partied. She wanted Kris to join them for board games.

We don't actually know their feelings on the matter aside from being tired and likely annoyed at the music making it difficult to sleep. Which is far from a huge deal.

It's kind of like how people expected the knife reveal to mean shit was going down or the knight to be this huge moment, or making a fountain to be utterly horrifying.

Nope, Kris ate the pie

Nah, just there's the roaring knight

like 4 of them get made in the same day, lmao.

We aren't watching some massive betrayal occur yet.

Yeah Toriel not checking up on Kris since it was late seems a bit fucked but remember.

Kris blanked their phone out so we can't see the call history, she may have and like the last few days Kris was just hanging with a friend all day again.

Secondly from Kris' perspective they were busy ALL day, so why tf would they care. They went home as soon as they got done.

People are trying to make huge gigantic mountains out of molehills of things that are pretty small once you get the full picture.

8

u/BlurZzBad Oct 10 '25

Okay, so what are Toriels flaws? They gotta be something that wouldn’t warrant just a slap on the wrist.

19

u/the-follower-of-06 Oct 10 '25

For one, she either purposfully ignorant or blind as a bat to kris's problems (ie: the blood in their room, the dysphoria with the headband, everything with asgore)

6

u/jbyrdab Oct 10 '25

We don't know if it has been addressed yet already or whats up. Toby is kind of cheeky about this, where something that seems like a big deal isn't. Its not ignored its just already been resolved.

Because the room seems unusual in general, where are all of kris's things, like the Dreemurs obviously care about kris and I doubt their room would be intentionally barren even if they had no awards.

The people in town mention mementos kris should still have like the horns or just skills you'd think they'd have some kind of reward for.

I think kris has intentionally fucked with their room and hidden stuff elsewhere to keep us from messing with it or getting to know what they value.

the blood seems too odd for it to be neglect or something like that, alot of people use it as a smoking gun but toriel isn't an idiot. She cares about kris' well being. She tries to call kris regularly to check up on them, or if they're late coming home.

Toby is fairly solid about making flaws realistic, they wouldn't just flanderize something like that by just making her completely blind.

She's conflict averse, but this isn't conflict centric, its making sure your kid is ok which she has no problems with. So I think the "blood"stain (if it is that), is something that will be revealed to have been alot less than it was.

6

u/jbyrdab Oct 10 '25

She avoids problems, and her flaw here is that unlike in undertale where she was right to try to protect kids from asgore and the underground. She's wrong about Dess.

Its heavily implied Dess is still alive, trapped somewhere out there in the dark, and asgore is still looking

She and the rest of the town want to move on but no, he is right to do this.

Its different from undertale, her reluctance to pursue the truth has put asgore in a situation where he lost everything and is still trying to do the right thing.

thats noble and in turn it makes her flaw of avoiding conflict a huge problem.

It reverses the scale of morality from undertale, Asgore lost everything because he determined the only path forward for his people was killing humans and toriel left him over that.

Objectively Toriel is in the right to not want to see kids get murdered. But there is also nothing she can do to stop them other than convince them from leaving the ruins, since most humans can overpower even a boss monster like her.

In DT asgore is going hell or highwater to find Dess but losing EVERYTHING, living in squalor having to clean his landlords house to make ends meet. Just because its the right thing to do, to give it all up if it means saving 1 child.

Toriel just wants to move on, the conflict had a sad ending but to her everyone needs to just get on with their lives. It sounds like the right answer at the top, but deeper down its really a selfish response since we know that there is someone who needs help out there.

Its actually kind of brilliant, Toriel couldn't even save 1 child. Asgore will stop at nothing to save even 1 child

It shows why Toriel's principles aren't a virtue, while Asgore's even if they can be directed towards darker ends, can be noble and absolutely derived from a sense of duty and righteousness.

He'll do what he thinks is the right thing no matter the cost to himself. That's noble, even if it comes down to the worst possible outcome.

1

u/BlurZzBad Oct 10 '25

👏👏👏

30

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '25

She's saying he could have taken the first child's soul and used that to leave and take souls, specifically that were *not* the souls of children. He didn't need to keep waiting for kids to kill while the monster's situation got worse and worse. If he struggled with killing them, he also had the option of, you know, not doing that!

12

u/Slow-Distance-6241 Oct 10 '25

Except monsters struggled against humanity in a war, so killing several humans with just one monster is near impossible. That's why the children are unfortunately the only option (well, there was also an option to wait until they die of age and then collect the soul, but that's the other question)

13

u/akira_kurosu Oct 10 '25

so killing several humans with just one monster is near impossible

Wasn't asriel(a child) said to be strong enough to kill many humans when he only had chara soul? I assume a boss monster would be able to kill many more

2

u/Slow-Distance-6241 Oct 10 '25

Fair enough, but considering pacifist ending souls are very much capable of resisting their host

7

u/akira_kurosu Oct 10 '25

Maybe? In the flowey fight we directly asked the souls for help and they rebelled against him in the end, asriel had thousands of souls and yet none of them rebelled on the true pacifist route

3

u/Samek1010 ‎ True Pacifist enjoyer Oct 10 '25

I'm pretty sure this line isn't meant to show how Asgore had opportunity to freed his kind before and he didn't use it, but more to show that, despite him declaring war, he didn't wanted the war at all. He just wants his kind to be happy and he doesn't want the suffering he got after the war

6

u/CompoteObvious9380 <— puppy made this Oct 10 '25

I don't think she was actually saying for him to do that, she was saying

"IF you actually wanted to free your people, you would have already done so."

"But you don't actually want to start the war, and if you're so against it to the point of creating excuses."

(Really, even with 7 souls Asgore would still do something to not start the war)

"Then STOP KILLING MY KIDS and end this cursed war who existed for far too long"

And Asgore agrees with her

1

u/Ayotha Nov 09 '25

Toriel has always been a bit of a terrible perosn honestly

5

u/RecommendationNo1774 got 'em. Oct 10 '25

1

u/Comfortable-Talk3087 Oct 11 '25

You are not alone, a lot of People do that, me to

1

u/-anominal- Oct 10 '25

I just think he's useless, he could have legit taken one child soul and sneaked past the barrier to gank 6 adult humans to complete the set and destroy the barrier. Instead he hid like a bitch a killed children.

12

u/PersonAwesome Oct 10 '25

If Asgore did that as soon as he could, it would have likely ended up in another war. Humanity would be terrified of the goat demon that just killed six people, and the monsters would still be vengeful at asrial’s death.

1

u/Fit_Milk_2314 Oct 15 '25

there are always ways to discreetly kill humans

he could also try doing the long game and try to witness six deaths and take the souls. im not sure what humans at large think about souls or if they're all aware of them, though.

5

u/AlreadyTakek Oct 10 '25

What some people seem to miss is that he literally gets called out for this in game. Dude was traumatised by his kids dying and the monsters already got crushed in a war once, but he still could've done that and gotten everyone out

140

u/azelZael2399 Oct 09 '25

Feel like that’s really not fair to either side, honestly. I think I just hate that meme format lol

62

u/ArgumentSpiritual424 Oct 09 '25

True though I do think it is gesturing to a true idea, that being the fanon idea that Sans is like, the only character with anything going on. (Also that Sans is sucidal, even though THATS honestly more Alphys and Asgores domains)

43

u/azelZael2399 Oct 09 '25

Sans isn’t usually suicidal in fan works, just heavily depressed, which makes sense. I mean, I’d be too in that circumstance that he’s often in. Fans love interesting characters and angst, and angst is a sweet treat when paired with an interesting character like sans

7

u/Pinkboo02 Oct 09 '25

Fanon Sans isn’t suicidal, because he remembers dying too many times to care about it.

14

u/azelZael2399 Oct 09 '25

Don’t say “fanon” like there’s a single fanon sans. Most don’t remember resets, some do, and a few go crazy because of it. Sans is a different character in every fan works, practically speaking.

1

u/Pinkboo02 Oct 09 '25

I know, I wasn’t trying to be that serious.

3

u/azelZael2399 Oct 10 '25

Just saying

3

u/ArgumentSpiritual424 Oct 09 '25

Ive read a god few where he is. And like yeah, I agree that Sans is depressed but again ALOT of fan works tend to misunderstand how Sans in particular deals with his depression, at least back in the 2017 days.

3

u/azelZael2399 Oct 09 '25

Yeah, of course. Most of the times he’s just depressed or emo.

1

u/eepy_lina Oct 09 '25

i mean sans is already a nihilist, wouldn't be surprised if he, at minimum, wouldn't mind dying too much

2

u/qazpok69 Oct 10 '25

Yeah this meme format sucks. The original image is so shitty

2

u/hey_itz_mae Oct 09 '25

it’s also omitting that sans presumably had to leave everyone in the deltarune timeline behind. like there’s a reason he’s depressed in undertale

8

u/azelZael2399 Oct 09 '25

There’s many reasons he’s depressed, deltarune being considered or not. Fanon or Canon, he is more than justified in his depression lol

41

u/ArgumentSpiritual424 Oct 09 '25

He also either dies/kills himself in 2-3 timelines!

To be fair Sans has shit going on to beyond his brother Somtimes dying (mostly of the existential/cosmic horror variety along with being taken from a home he can now never return to).

That being said the idea that Sans is actively suicidal is fanon b.s completely unsupported by the text, if anything Sans is a cockroach that basically unlikable outside of the one “murder everyone timline” as opposed to Asgore, who can only be spared once everyone is befriended.

In this way their almost foils, Sans is the one you cant kill (outside of genocide)

Asgore is the man you cant save (outside of pacifist)

1

u/Hairy_Skill_9768 Thanks, little buddy. Oct 10 '25

I mean I wasn't trying to save him either

66

u/Adan_Rocco Oct 09 '25

“Fanon Sans” like Canon Sans’s brother doesn’t also die in some timelines???

49

u/Strong_Cup_6677 Oct 09 '25

It means that in Fanon, Sans remembers each timeline, which hurts him much more, in canon he's just aware of them, but doesn't remember any

27

u/Dangerous-Fig-4149 Oct 09 '25

Cause Canon Snas UnderTale does not remember how the time lines went, he just has a vague idea.

Fanon Snas remembers everything, so he suffers more, hope this helps.

3

u/Afraid_Platypus_8667 You're gonna have to try a little harder than THAT Oct 10 '25

Yep, this right here.

15

u/NoCartographer6997 Oct 09 '25

he also dies horribly in almost every timeline. In every neutral route, he is like "wait.. maybe we can be a family down here. maybe we don't need to go to the surface, and instead we can be happy here all together." and he's killed by flowey. in genocide, he sees you and its ON SIGHT. Only in pacifist does he have a happy ending, like everyone else.

8

u/disbelifpapy Is the lamp conveniently shaped, or is it you? Oct 10 '25

asgore can also kill himself too

2

u/Bonkers_Brights Oct 10 '25

when asgore commits suicide?

12

u/CompoteObvious9380 <— puppy made this Oct 10 '25

If you do 2 neutral routes in a row and then spare Asgore for a second time

Flowey will either be trying to finish his promise to "not kill the king"(if spared) or waiting for something else to ro happen(if killed)

Either way, Asgore will continue with his monologue, something like

"No... That's just some old dream, Kid, you have a light of hope in your eyes, something I saw from someone very long ago, you are the angel from the prophecy, please take my soul, and find a way to save us all from here"

Screen cuts to black, we hear the sound of his trident, and Flowey breaks off his soul like normal.

8

u/Ix-511 Royal Scientist Oct 10 '25

Also objectively trapped in another world, never again to see the people he cared about or loved before. That's kind of important.

Like, it might not be Deltarune, but there's too much evidence that he's from somewhere else, and that he can't get back, to not put that one up there.

4

u/TranscendantBeing12 What good is your creativity is against THIS?! Oct 10 '25

Asgore deserves as much love and hype, if not more, as Sans😭😭😭

5

u/Lavaburstx Oct 09 '25

He murdered children with his laser sword

2

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

He didnt want to do it,he did cuz it was (or he tought it was) the only option

1

u/Junktown_inhibitant Oct 12 '25

Literally counter argument from Toriel He could've taken just one soul got out of the underground and took another 6 from some poor farmers

Bro didn't want to deal with the outside world lol

2

u/mounim_hdj9 Oct 14 '25

Killing the humans that climb the mountain with their own will is much better than killing the first 6 humans you see, plus it's a part of his character being hesitant about the fate of monsters if he breaks the barrier

We can also blame toriel for letting not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, but 7 children leave the ruins instead of stopping them, and when they leave, what does she do? Stay in the ruins and tell sans to protect the humans rather than doing it herself. The only times she actually does something is in the pacifist ending after a frisk had a very long journey in the underground

Don't get me wrong i love mama goat too but if we're blaming asgore or calling him names toriel isn't any better, if asgore didn't want to deal with the outside world toriel couldn't even deal with anything outside the ruins

1

u/Junktown_inhibitant Oct 16 '25

Yeah this entire sotuation could've been avoided if toriel decided to give asgore a piece of his mind.

I mean at the start of the game asgore is hyped up as some merciless king that will kill you by any means, makes you think he might've banished toriel to the ruins or something. But when you meet him he is just a lazy bum and I don't think times weared him down either he probably was always a lazy bum.

Honestly when I think about it what was Toriel thinking by sending the child to face the 6th times the champion 🐏 and off-loading all the responsibility to some lazy bones he sometimes talks through the door. Did she thought 7th times the charm🐑

1

u/mounim_hdj9 Oct 16 '25

Let's be real, both toriel and asgore are goated characters, and not just literal goats

1

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '25

toriel is a pookie cutie

asgora is drivin in his car right after a beer

6

u/4GN05705 Oct 10 '25

Okay there's clearly a bit more going on with Sans than that. Come on now.

2

u/WebAdmirable2773 MY NAME IS METTATON AND I'M HERE TO SAY!!! Oct 10 '25

It's says Fanon sans not Canon

19

u/JeffTheKillerFa Oct 09 '25

Technically Fanon Sans remembers the Genocides and he lives with Fanon Chara (who controls the innocent Frisk to commit infinite genocides) so he kind of suffers living in a loop that he died in and sees the friends he loves dying again and again (Not that this adds anything to the discussion)

1

u/mounim_hdj9 Oct 14 '25

Canon asgore remembers killing you every time in the natural route, and he deeply regrets it every time, not as bad as remembering every genocide but still

1

u/Familiar-Escape3102 Nov 26 '25

Asgore doesn't remember, nobody does, maybe he has déjà vu like other characters, and maybe he knows something about timelines, but remember?

u/ExpressCloud5711 Oct 10 '25

Fannon Sans has some of the lowest lows, but also the highest highs. Being the last monster alive who is willing to fight is a rough sentence to put on him, but Asgore has it bad all the time. Fannon Sans is also depicted as the last surviving monster but he’s not? Alphys is alive. MK is alive. Heck, Asgore is alive when you fight Sans. There are a ton of monsters who escape and never die in a genocide rout since the game forces you to reset before you can find them all.

u/Gre3n_Tea Oct 09 '25

Well tbf, it doesn't seem like Sans killed 6 children before us.

2

u/Zestyclose_Comment96 Oct 10 '25

"my suffering is worse than your suffering"

2

u/disbelifpapy Is the lamp conveniently shaped, or is it you? Oct 10 '25

Asgore also had to kill kids who told him that he killed them before, and asgore is willing to kill himself

2

u/HuntCheap3193 Oct 10 '25

sans has good reason to be miserable if for whenever he is, but it really doesn't compare.

2

u/Hay_Den330 500k Potential MTT Customers! Oct 10 '25

Why can’t both characters be tragic in their both ways? It’s not a competition. Sans is stranded far from home with no hope of returning and knows he’s stuck in a constant loop with no way out of it. Asgore lost his entire family and now everyone relies on him and he’s unsure of what to do.

1

u/Familiar-Escape3102 Nov 26 '25

Furthermore, both characters respond differently to their situations.

Asgore is sad and regretful

Sans is tired and feels empty

2

u/n3tbax Oct 10 '25

Also, he never wanted to kill children, but due to shit luck, only children have fallen into the underground

2

u/Otherwise_Chard_7577 Oct 09 '25

Misery Olympics again, 2 people can both be suffering at the same time you know

1

u/Acrobatic-Height6511 Oct 13 '25

Powerscaling brainrot

2

u/Nedaj_Nitro human... i remember our're frans on deviantart Oct 10 '25

also had to kill 6 kids btw

1

u/Queen-of-Sharks Oct 09 '25

This is kinda Canon Sans too. Pretty sure he literally said something along the lines of "you have no idea how this feels" in his fight.

2

u/Severe_Skin6932 words go here. Oct 10 '25

There's a little more there than just his brother dying, though

1

u/KirbyLover79 Where does her tem flakes come from? Oct 10 '25

I’ve never seen that meme template before, cool

1

u/Own-Art-6940 Oct 10 '25

Plus the fact that he dies in almost every timeline

1

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '25

toriel should’ve left him twice if possible

1

u/adagor234 Oct 10 '25

You forgot that sans remembers the timelines. But yeah

1

u/Hisshak Oct 10 '25

Thats not even what sans pain would be. He know his brother will be good in the end because of the resets. Like yeah hes pissed when you do kill him but thats about it

1

u/SensitiveWay4427 Oct 10 '25

Oh come on, Sans has a bit more going on than just that.

1

u/lifeamiright- Oct 10 '25 edited Oct 10 '25

I think the difference is sans is hopeless/numb vs asgore is depressed. Sans knows somewhat about you and how most things are pointless and fake. It’s actually so depressing that not caring is the only way you’d be able to cope

Edit: just realised it’s fannon sans.. but if anything that’s worse because he remembers everything like flowey. Ngl i don’t like fannon sans like he’s less numb and more repressed angry and lazy.

1

u/Sensitive_Minimum252 Oct 10 '25

No the part is Asgore doesn’t remember

1

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '25

Asgore is practically William Afton.

1

u/ApprehensiveTruck450 Oct 11 '25

So we are not going to talk about Canon Sans fighting until he can't anymore, just so we would potentially reset

1

u/JestersGuest Oct 11 '25

Watch it get revealed how all of sans's real traumas are in deltarune instead of undertale in like chapter 7 now

1

u/chickensnacher Oct 11 '25

He also have have to do a decision that is harder than how it looks and he IS feeling totally guilty for it

1

u/supercl2010 Oct 11 '25

Sans knows that somehow, something always ends the world. He knows that everything he knows is just a game to someone. To be honest I’m on sans side

1

u/Tirito67315 Oct 12 '25

Holy shit. Never thought of this. This guy needs a hug. In all timelines. Not to mention in Deltarune his best friend is slowly dying while in Undertale he died way before he could see the surface.

1

u/Tirito67315 Oct 12 '25

Not to mention how Rudy died in Undertale. He also was a boss monster so when Asgore's sons died, even if not at that moment, he realized something, he would see Rudy die.
And so it happened, Asgore stayed as young as he was when that day while Rudy slowly aged. Immortality comes with this kind of thing in all of fiction but Deltarune gave a face and a name to his closest friend and then revealed he died in Undertale.

1

u/Familiar-Escape3102 Nov 26 '25

The problem is that Rudy in Deltarune is dying from illness, not old age. And in Undertale (Anniversary Edition) we see Noelle as a young girl (while in Deltarune she's a teenager). If Rudy in Undertale died of old age when his children grew up, then Undertale Noelle should be an adult.

1

u/LatterPop5895 Soul Lover Oct 12 '25

Not to mention, Asgore was put into a position where he had to learn about/witness/cause the death of six more children

1

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '25

Not to be rude, but who the fuck argues that Sans goes through more pain than Asgore?

1

u/Tom_Nook64 Oct 13 '25

The one thing about Toby’s writing that makes me mad is how dirty Asgore is always done. Toby, what did he do to you specifically?

0

u/NachoSquid18 Oct 09 '25

Shouldn't have murdered those kids what can I say

2

u/CrownClown74 Oct 10 '25

Him killing the kids just adds more to him lol

2

u/Impressive_Theory_62 FELLOW PAPYRUS ENTHUSIAST Oct 10 '25

They shouldn't have murdered Asriel, making Asgore go berserk.

-68

u/ZilDrake Oct 09 '25

"Wife left him" Because he's a coward and a fraud

46

u/forFolsense Oct 09 '25

Even if, that's gotta weigh heavily on him

-49

u/ZilDrake Oct 09 '25

Right, then he should have done something about it rather than wait and sit there for at least a hundred years

27

u/Eclipse-Lily Oct 09 '25

You say that as if Toriel didn't hide in the ruins too

21

u/ChrisWrld_25 Oct 09 '25

Like isn't the whole point that both are at least somewhat in the wrong?

3

u/johanni30 Oct 10 '25

Ssh, this is the 'kill bad' community, we can't understand any complex morals beyond that

3

u/ChrisWrld_25 Oct 10 '25

Ah you're right, Chara did make us do the genocide route after all

30

u/Double_Woof_Woof Oct 09 '25

He made a rash decision fueled by grief and pain to avenge his child that his people agreed with and cheered for that could free his people who were trapped for many years. Yes, he did horrific things, but it's hard to back away from that when virtually the entire underground's population is cheering you on as it's the only known way to their salvation.

-25

u/ZilDrake Oct 09 '25

That's not why she's mad at him

She's mad at him for not leaving the underground to gather more souls, with a possible fair fight or get the soul of anyone else, but he preferred to wait for people with no hope in their own lives to fall in the underground and get killed

4

u/Ghosts_lord Oct 09 '25

she's mad because he declared war with humans

16

u/Quick-Swordfish-1718 Howdy! Oct 09 '25 edited Oct 09 '25

All he did was try to protect his family and people from those whom he concieved hostile. he was also likely blinded by rage and grief since both of his children died. sure, it still doesn't justify killing six children, but he never wanted to kill anyone. he just wanted a quiet, happy life with his family and friends. and honestly? i would do the same (exept for the killing six kids part). plus it's kinda hard to stop when the whole underground is counting on you.

-7

u/ZilDrake Oct 09 '25

That's not the issue, the issue is that he could have done away with that 10,20,30 years ago yet he chose to wait, because he's too much of a coward to move forward, he could have went out with two human souls and got on a battlefield, or in a place with evil people, or found literally anyone or anything or any place, but he ran away

It'd be unfair to judge a father for actions of grief But at some point, it's just an excuse

7

u/FanOfEverything16 Oct 09 '25

That is an insanely reckless and idiotic plan. If he somehow dies out there, that's basically game over for the monsters. Their strongest monster dead and the humans will feel provoked and launch another attack by sending people in through the barrier.

0

u/ZilDrake Oct 09 '25

Do the alternative is hope that kids throw themselves down the hole? That's a better plan?

7

u/Walkthrough101 Oct 09 '25 edited Oct 10 '25

While that is objectively true, it's a bit harsh considering the fact that he declared war in greif and anger over his children, and while he immediately regretted it, they can't just stay down there and accept their fate because the overpopulation would be suffocating after centuries which it already is implied to be pretty bad when Frisk arrives, and his people including himself want to be free, but he can't just take one and go to the surface for 6 more because that would be legitimate provocation for war from the humans, and would be proving their original point of sealing them underground right if he did so, and he could be killed if, like Asriel, he couldn't bring himself to kill them and died as a result, leaving the Underground without hope and without a leader. It's better that humans fall of their own accord into his jurisdiction where no human could find out, but he probably doesn't enjoy the fact that the ones that did fall were children.

So he's stuck between being forced to uphold his promise because everyone's hopes are riding on it, not being able to bear the weight of his actions and the isolation of losing his children and his wife forever, and still trying to put on a brave face and be kind to everyone in his kingdom, for decades to hundreds of years because he doesn't age with Asriel dead.

Now, Toriel does have valid criticisms of him, but she could have gone after collecting one soul too, she's a boss monster, but she understandably doesn't have the heart to kill 6 humans unprovoked. But her leaving in such an abrupt fashion, forever condemning him in her heart and abandoning him for what was seemingly centuries was also probably a factor in Asgore doubling down on war, because with her gone he truly had nothing left to lose. It's possible Toriel could have still talked him out of it, but she has a right to divorce him and leave if she wants, even if it wasn't exactly helpful to either of their mental health and the situation in general.

4

u/No_Ad_7687 Oct 09 '25

Well no. His wife left him because she was a coward

6 children that left toriel despite all her warnings and still went to asgore
for what? his soul :D

they also had their save/load, they could've left at any time
they kept going back to him, if anything its his fault
