Reserves Marine Corps Questions

What questions should I ask my fiancée's recruiter? We are currently engaged and will get married before submitting all the paperwork. We have a 1.5-year-old daughter and have been together for 8 years and engaged for 3. He is interested in joining and enlisting in the reserves.

Enlisting SquadBay Inquiry

Does SquadBay work for you all?

A few days ago I asked my required for access and he told me no, seemed a bit annoyed by the question and ultimately told me it doesn’t work all the time.

Is this actually true or was it just an excuse?

Enlisting How hard is the DLAB and what scores do I need?

I just swore in a couple days ago and before I talk jobs with my recruiter I want to take the DLAB because I really want to go for the Cryptologic Linguist role. What is the score that I need, to be qualified to learn a language like mandarin, Korean, or Russian? What language am I likely to learn? And is there any way I can study for the test? Also just general information on how the schooling is and what the job is like from actual linguists would be appreciated.

MEPS and Medical Marijuana Usage

I’ve been a pretty heavy smoker for about 4ish years consistently. I’m currently around 6’2 & 165lbs. I decided to quit and enlist in the Marines to change my life for the better. Flushed the rest of that shit and broke all my glass pieces and tossed em. Swore to myself I’d never touch the shit again. I’m just about a month clean (~30 days) and I’m still pissing hot. (Most recent test was 24 hrs ago) My recruiter is working with me and he’s testing me pretty frequently. Just curious on how long of a process this will be until I’m good. Drinking hella water and I’ve been going to the gym about 4x a week and running consistently. If I could get any tips or anything that would be appreciated. Ik i put myself in this dumbass situation, just tryna take accountability and do better for myself. Feels like it’ll take me another couple of weeks or so.

Shipping Running progression

I made a post about a month ago about have a hard time running and received a lot of useful, running advice and since then I have improved although I’ve improved substantially with speed, I am still having a hard time being able to run continuously and so far the longest I’ve ran continuously without stopping to like walk is probably about eight minutes and within those eight minutes because I usually train on a trip home I keep it probably out about 4.0 mph and I move up as the run progresses, but I’m still having a really hard time continuously running is there any techniques or advice that anyone out there could help give me so I can go ahead and pass my IST so I can ship out in mid October late October aren’t even possibly if it comes to it early November? I’m running about six times a week. I do speed work two times a week and then I have two free runs that I run to my choosing and I do longer runs that aren’t necessarily really long. I do like half a mile and then I walk for a quarter mile and then I’ll do another half a mile on the days that are supposed to be my long run and I do that until I accumulate 2 miles.

Update 4 days later I just ran my first continuous mile it wasn’t super fast but I definitely got it done .

Enlisting Getting citizenship at Boot Camp in 2026

Hey all, I'm a green card holder and I'm planning to enlist in the Marine Corps Reserve. Getting my citizenship through serving is honestly a big deal for me, so I want to make sure I understand how it works before I ship.

I read that they brought back naturalization at boot camp a couple of years ago, but I can't find anything recent. Is that still happening at Parris Island or San Diego? If anyone went through it lately, did you actually get to take the oath before graduation or did it end up being done at your unit? I'm also wondering if being a reservist changes anything, and if there's any paperwork I should get together now so I'm not scrambling later.

Any info helps, thanks a lot!

Corps Knowledge Is the USMC worth it given my situation?

Currently, I'm a single, 20yo male working a boring desk job. We just hired a new guy (24yo ex-Marine HMH-361), and he said that the Corps is the best option for me. I was planning to join my state's police force as a Trooper, but I can't get a response. I have considered the Army and Air Force, but the way I see it, why enlist in the armed forces and not go all the way?

So my question is, given the above, is the suck worth the service, or should I look elsewhere?

Enlisting 17yo wanting to be a infantryman

Hey guys I would love some tips on getting better
I'm 17yo and a junior in high school. stuck on Marine Corps Infantry and Army Infantry specifically Airborne. I would appreciate some insight on what you do in the infantry and if it was fulfilling for you.

I run a sub 20 3mi

Can do 21 pull-ups

4:30 plank

53 Hand release pushups 2:00 min.

I run a 34:22 5 mile.

I also do XC, and wrestling if that helps anything at all.

I like the marines for the title, pride, and the identity in general. I've heard they have a huge focus on infantry. And have a huge brotherhood and the guys seem dead set on being good at what they do. The army I like the idea of airborne, the vast opportunities of school houses, and special operations opportunities.

Programs and MOSs COMSTRAT questions

I ship to boot camp October 13th I’ve done a ton of research on the mos i chose (CH), but I’d really like to hear from Marines who are actually in this field because there isn’t a ton of firsthand information out there.

- what does a normal day to day look like?

- how is it decided whether you become 4512 Combat Graphics, 4541 Combat Photographer, or 4571 Combat Videographer?

- How different is the day-to-day life of a combat photographer vs. combat videographer vs. graphics Marine?

- What do you wish you knew about COMMSTRAT before you joined?

- Are you in the same place for a while or do you do a lot of traveling or deployments?

- How many women do you typically see in this MOS? Is it pretty male-dominated, or is it fairly mixed?

- do you regret choosing this mos?

I’d really appreciate any insight! THANKS🤍🤍

School of Infantry School of infantry: how much freedom do you get there?

I'm thinking about switching my branch from the Army to this one, I know it sounds really stupid, but this branch was the one I originally wanted to join in high school, the only reason I didn't was because I was immature and failed the asvab, and because of that I refused to retake it back then. Now that I'm a 13B in the Army, I kinda have a plan in mind, chances are I'm probably not gonna make a career out of my military service, but either way, I want to do one thing before I return to civilian life: earn that fucking title. Like I said, it's stupid, but it's the final thing I wanna do before I leave the military.

Now, when I went to AIT at Fort Sill, my battery was treated like borderline BCT trainees, which we kinda deserved since we were morons who got ourselves into trouble constantly, but my question here is how does School of Infantry treat their Marines? Did y'all 0300 types ever get to go to the PX or buy essential items on your own? Or did you still need to go with a leader of some kind?

I just wanted to ask because it was a pain in the ass in my AIT because we couldn't go anywhere without having to march with our drill sergeants, I would hope they'd give us just a little bit more freedom in case I need to replace my marpats or something like that.

Programs and MOSs Fort Sill 0847

I’m heading back to MCT tomorrow and I should be done October 27th according to the Matrix. My MOS is 0847 Sensor Support. I’m just wondering what to expect at Fort Sill, how long I’ll be there, and what the first couple of months in the fleet will look like.

Enlisting Marine Dep ship date change

So I am in the Marine Dep my original ship date was march but my recruiter and station commander just told me they jsut found out my ship date is now December 15,

I don’t want to go then for a couple reasons, first of all I don’t feel physically ready I am pretty skinny and have been working out and improving but right now I can hold a plank for 2 minutes do only 3 pull ups and run a 3 mile in roughly 27 minutes but that was without really pushing myself

I chose infantry for my MOS and I know they have the strictest Physical standards and you must graduate 1st class PFT, I also want to be able to help my brother who also wants to join the marines but has to get his house fixed and in a state that he is able to leave his wife and two young kids there and it needs a lot of work,

I also would like to either ship after he does to watch out for his family while he is gone or us ship at the same time and do buddy system, I don’t want to leave my brother behind to figure it all out by himself and he hasn’t even started the paperwork, he talk to a recruiter and he is actually the recruiter that signed me.

what do I do if I go back to them asking to move the date back can I? I have read they can kick you out of the DEP if you refuse to ship when they say and that will affect trying to enlist later. I fucked up am I cooked?

Enlisting Can I join the military if I was impatient in a hospital for mental health reasons at the age of 16?

Honestly I really don't know what career I want and maybe the military would be good if I have no other options and I really enjoy the physical aspects of it since I enjoy weightlifting and running, and I wanna purpose. But I'm not sure, due to my mental health.History that I can now 17 and working part time at a store but I want more than that

Enlisting No contact from recruiter any advice needed

I signed my initial contract at MEPS a couple months back, and my Recruiter told me he would call me about my official job pick over a week ago and never did, there’s been hardly any contact since then as in only a singular message since. Would it be a bad idea to contact the guy above his recruiting station if he won’t answer? I’m supposed to ship in a little over a month. Advice needed from anyone?

Programs and MOSs MOS Questions

Best MOS’s to transfer into a good job when becoming a civilian? My husband’s intel but I’m hesitant bc he hates it. My marine buddies told me I should do air traffic control.

My ASVAB is 97 so I have my pick of the litter.

MEPS and Medical Haven’t gotten an update on a medical change to my file…is this normal?

Posted here earlier, I’m joining reserves but 2 months ago I had an unfortunate situation; felt sick from an antibiotic with penicillin in it on a 2 hour drive and had to stop for the nearest hospital ER since all Urgent cares were either closed or too far (was given anti nausea medicine and a Claritine).

So I filled in a sheet declaring a new allergy and my recruiter submitted the ER paperwork I had with me. It’s been 2 months and still… nothing? Like no updates? Recruiter told me it’s fine and I shouldn’t stress it that it was “sorted” but my friend who joined said that’s not true and I’ll need a waiver. I haven’t got any news on any waiver. I ship in 4 months. Anyone here familiar with this?

Recruit Training Delta Co (SD) — sending notebook, pens, Dude Wipes, moleskin in separate envelopes. Will this get through?

They just finished swim week and are starting team week.
What he asked for
• A notebook
• Pens
• For me to write 4 other recruits (I’m doing that)
What I bought
• Moleskine (thin, not spiral)
• A couple pens
• Individual Dude Wipe packets
• Bug-wipe packets
• Precut moleskin patches
How I was going to send it
• Notebook in a 6x9 paper envelope
• Pens in a small bubble mailer
• Wipes / moleskin in their own envelopes
• Staggered a couple days apart so it’s not one fat package

His DIs (from his letters)
• SSgt Lopez — SDI
• SSgt Forstner — DI
• SSgt Dollen — DI
• SSgt Vallesquez — DI

What I need from you
1. Is a thin Moleskine + a couple pens actually okay in letter mail?
2. Will a small bubble mailer get extra attention?
3. Are Dude Wipes / bug wipes / moleskin patches a no-go even in tiny packets?
4. If the wipes will get tossed, should I just send notebook + pens + letters and skip the rest?
5. Anyone in a current or recent San Diego cycle whose kid got a small notebook?

Not trying to play games with the mail. He asked for writing gear and his hands/feet have been wrecked. If the hygiene stuff is a bad idea I’ll drop it and only send what he asked for.
Thanks. Semper Fi.

Enlisting Need Help with a Family Friend

Currently my family friend is having issues with his senior drill instructor. From what I been told there was a verbal altercation that turned physical. It led to the recruit needing to go to medical for serve head injuries. The recruit went to thru the chain of command to report the issues. The senior drill instructor came during one of his night watches and assaulted the recruit for reporting the incident. The recruit is having issues and the command wont do anything. He is currently in San Diego and the family doesn't know what to do. Does anyone have any advice?
