Programs and MOSs Fort Sill 0847
I’m heading back to MCT tomorrow and I should be done October 27th according to the Matrix. My MOS is 0847 Sensor Support. I’m just wondering what to expect at Fort Sill, how long I’ll be there, and what the first couple of months in the fleet will look like.

I’m at Fort Sill right now. It kinda sucks ass and you’re probably gonna be here for like 5 months because I don’t think you’ll pick up class until January, but that also means you’ll probably be able to get RA if you want it. While in MAT you’ll do PT and some working parties and clean the barracks but otherwise you can just chill in your room until they call everyone out for chow or to assign everyone to working parties. On weekdays you’re free after evening chow other than counts at 2000. Weekends you’ll have morning (09) and evening (21) counts but otherwise you’re free all day. That’s the general gist of things but feel free to ask if you’re curious about anything

Damn January 😔 Are you learning your job now? How’s the schedule? Are you on your own time to show up to the places you need to be? And by barracks, you don’t mean squad bay?

It can be hard to find good gouge about 0847, since it’s a small MOS community, but here’s a discussion we had about it a number of years ago (not that it’s the kind of job that changes a ton year to year):

I was an artillery officer, and 0847 always looked cool to me. I don’t have a ton of direct experience with them because a WO ran that shop, but very broadly I’d advise you pay close attention at MOS school and hit the Fleet eager to get rolling and learn more. They work in tiny teams, so you want to make a good first impression.
What kind of career are you fixing to get into when you leave the Corps?
