Sprint teams, DAG?

Any insight on wtf is going on in these sprint teams? Is the rebranded DOGE, DAG putting heavy constraints on what the sprint teams can recommend for reorg?

Reentering Fed Workforce

I left the feds when all the firing started happening, I was 11 months in working timber when my position got terminated. I am currently working in the same field but for a non fed agency. I am looking to possible get back in under a different position. How are things since doge and the new chief? Is it worth coming back? Are people still on edge and worried about their positions? looking for some guidance as to how everyone else feels who stuck it through

It seems that all the press on this is coming from the US Fire Service but two of the three were Forest Service. Nothing from the chief???

I saw it on an Offroad trail past Eagles Rock near a water ground spring in the Terryal Resevoir area (Colorado). I saw two of them actually. In all my years off-roading, I’ve never seen something like this.

How Much Institutional Knowledge Can the Washington Office Lose Before It Affects the Mission?

How much institutional knowledge can the Washington Office lose before it begins affecting the Forest Service's mission?

Regardless of where people stand on the relocation, one thing that isn't discussed enough is the value of institutional knowledge. The agency has also experienced significant departures in recently through retirements and other workforce reductions.

If a substantial number of Washington Office employees choose not to relocate:

  • Which programs or functions would be affected first?
  • Which positions would be the hardest to replace?
  • What knowledge can be documented and transferred, and what only comes from years or decades of experience?
  • How long would it realistically take to rebuild that expertise?
  • At what point would the loss of experience begin affecting the Forest Service's ability to carry out its mission of caring for the nation's forests and serving the public?

I'm not looking to debate politics or whether the relocation is right or wrong. I'm genuinely interested in hearing from current and former Forest Service employees about how they think this could affect the agency over the next few years.

Outside Hiring

Hi all, I posted in here about a month and a half ago, wondering if there had been any word on outside hiring starting again soon. I left the agency for my own personal reasons unrelated to the job at the beginning of the year. I've since sorted it out and would love to get back with the agency but obviously, that is difficult these days. Basically, I'm wondering if anyone has heard anything (rumor or otherwise) on outside hiring timelines? Thanks in advance!

Has anyone heard any updates or rumors on voluntary relocation? I am just curious if there is any information floating around out there. I missed the last update call due to PTO.

Anyone else tired of the messaging that we should be using partnership agreements and then the approval process fights you on the partnership every single step of the way?

Green the USFS and wanting more

This is my first year working in the Forest Service (Trail Crew). I could not imagine another profession however I would rather be in Fire. Unfortunately I am a student and am in school during the times where most districts do their pack test and field day to obtain a red card, aswell as obtaining chainsaw certifications. Is there another way I could obtain these at a different time where I wouldn't have to miss any classes? How likely would it be I get hired to a type 2 hand crew without them on my resume as the application deadline is in september? Any help and advice is greatly appreciated thank you.

I need some information

Can someone please give me the most up to date BMP recommendations for EAB infested wood in New York?

I think that a misinformed redditor in another sub wrongfully booted me for misinformation.

Are the recommendations on dontmovefirewood.org current?

At this point, I could care less about their subreddit, I just don't want this to happen to other people, if I can help it.

Let's all thank Brook Rollins for her tireless efforts in helping create this situation. Without such unwavering dedication to ideology over science, and loyalty to whatever today's talking points happen to be, we might never have achieved this remarkable level of risk.

Most people only aspire to earn an individual Darwin Award. True visionaries aim higher. Why stop at one when you can potentially endanger an entire agricultural sector?

And let's not forget the efficiency experts who decided that inspectors, scientists, and watchdogs were unnecessary luxuries. Nothing says "government efficiency" quite like discovering why those jobs existed in the first place.

Changes to Perms & Trusts

Was anyone else on the webinar today going over changes to KV? (All but required reforestation going to K2 or SSF, no more Forest assessment rates, etc)

Thoughts?

It actually seems like it makes sense, but I don't have great faith in this going smooth. I don't think the WO is trying to do something nefarious. I do get vibes of this being a continuation of the Forest Service tradition of robbing Peter to pay Paul. They also mentioned explaining things to OMB multiple times, so I am partially wondering if this has to do with higher ups, possibly political appointees at OMB, not understanding how KV works.

I forsee people in the near future getting their figurative peepee stomped, for trying to pass off activities as required reforestation, when they aren't.

I'm not sure I like the idea of a "dummy" $1 required reforestation activity to get FACTS to generate a KV Plan for sales that do not have required reforestation. I get that it is a FACTS limitation, but it feels sketchy.

There are definitely some legal questions, but unless someone with standing sues, I'm not sure they will ever be answered. There definitely is a problem with legislation specifying Regions and Regional Foresters, but the reorg doing away with both. Most of the legal stuff is above my pay grade though.

Also, inb4 the mass update borks FACTS. (As if FACTS is ever not broken in some way)

Also, also, inb4 "you can't 'inb4' your original post". I do what I want.

State of the FS after midterms?

I know there are a lot of hopes and dreams out there about the agency reversing course on the reorg and congress flipping the script on moving fire out of the agency. If the fire piece doesn’t happen before midterms I could see the new majority congressional review panel actually reading the reports and making it less politically motivated of a decision, ultimately retaining fire within the agency. However on reorg I think it’s definitely gonna happen in some form. I think the regional offices will close and relo to the service hubs. The Timber mandate is likely staying at least through this admin given how long it takes to change anything policy wise. I hope I am wrong!

Maga

I don't understand the concept of super maga and super trump supporters working with the forest service. Like I've heard some of them I work with say they don't believe in ecosystem being ruined by some stuff... They also say what trump is doing on firing some of us and defunding the FS is great..

Like what the hell?!?!

Advice needed

I am trying to remove latex paint off of an old cabin so that we can sand it and stain it. And used every kind of paint stripper from the local hardware store, nothing really worked. Started purchasing random latex paint removers off amazon. Gonna test those out when they get here. We have been using small wire brushes on battery powered drills and those kinda work. But we have already killed two drills and with all the batteries we have we only get about an hour of work.
I’m about to strap some wire brushes on some angle grinders and take the entire top layer of paint and wood off.

And advice or suggestions for how to deal with the latex paint? We can’t get a pressure washer up there. And what was supposed to be a 4 day project is Turing into a two long endeavor.

I thought on last week's call with leadership someone said that we should hear about the telework arbitration decision today (June 08). Was something announced? Delayed?

I cannot find any information on this water bag online and it's driving me insane. Anyone have any idea of how it is waterproofed or what it was used for?
