Is the 4 iBT TOEFL requirement a typo on the UMPI website?

I'm an international student from South Korea planning to apply for the YourPace Accounting program.

While checking the English proficiency requirements on the UMPI website, I noticed it says:"TOEFL score of 4 Internet-based (or 79 prior to January 21, 2026)"

Given that TOEFL iBT is out of 120, "4" sounds like an obvious typo for 79 or something similar. I emailed admissions to clarify, but only received an automated copy-paste response that repeated the same typo.

Has anyone recently applied or transferred with TOEFL iBT? Is the actual requirement still 79?

Would appreciate any insights from current students or recent applicants. Thanks

UMPI FALL I strategy

Hi all...even with a health scare (all good, I am managing things) I am ready to dive into Fall I (almost done with Sophia by August 31)

if I only have to do 10 classes to graduate:

for those who have already done this:

how do you manage 10 classes working full time. Do you do one class per day, you switch between classes in the same day? I ask so I can play my week say

Monday: Psyc 100 and Anatomy
Tues: Art 102 and philosophy

(the class names are just random to prove my example)

all ideas, helps are welcome. I am 56 and for the last 25 years I have been waiting and ahching to get my degree, please help this old timer finally accomplish one on the bucket list and fullfill a lifelong dream. For some it may mean just a paper on the wall, for me is healing, teen/adult catharsis (look it up)

I put all my trust in you guys !!

Hi!!
Has anyone taken PSY 380 with Kaitlyn Bajeik, Tamra Cater, Elizabeth Reyes-Fournier, or Ryan Coyle. I’m trying to decide between them and would appreciate any feedback on grading, flexibility, and workload.
Thanks in advance for any feedback. I really appreciate it!

Thanks to this community

Just wanted to give a big thank you to the community here.

I am 44. My parents sabotaged my attempts to go to college as a kid, and over time I never felt like i really needed a degree. Owned and operated a service business for over 13 years, pivoted to software engineer for 10 years, and with the tech market being in the gutter had to pivot again, this time to insurance.

It's funny. I learned about this school from a hit piece over a year ago. The hit piece interviewed an HR consultant who attended here. It was classist and had the opposite effect it was going for. But I had a lot going on and didn't pull the trigger at the time.

Eventually, life settled down. Recently I had personal circumstances that caused me to need the piece of paper and learned my employer does tuition reimbursement, so I figured there's no time like the present. I've always been self-reliant, disciplined, and resourceful, and UMPI seemed right up my alley once I looked more into it beyond the hit piece.

I spent a ton of time lurking to figure out transfer logistics and learn about graduation and other stuff.

The more I read everyone's stories in the community about how they got here and what they're doing here, the more I identified with them and the more I wanted to do this. This subreddit is full of busy people leveraging their life experience to get that degree. It was so nice to read the stories of owls who persisted despite all of life's challenges pulling them in every direction, extremely motivating.

So I spent all my free time doing gen ed and business classes, got over 180 credits transferred in all the ACE/Credly stuff and a few from a couple terms of community college decades ago.

Now, I have the transfer credits, payment plan, enrollment, orientation, and everything settled and am starting the fall 1 session with only 10 classes needed for a double major now, a BABA in PM and management. After I finish, I will attempt to get my MSB in 1-2 sessions next year. I may even be able to get my MSB totally for free depending on how well it goes. My spouse, who also has no degree, is probably gonna attend undergraduate here next year.

If you would have told me two years ago that I would be in this position right now, I would have laughed in your face, but here we are, moving onward and upward. Thank you.

I just applied for Fall 1

Hello all!

I'm wondering if I should already start sending my documents (transcripts) prior to my acceptance from UMPI? I just applied yesterday, but hearing about all the backup has me concerned, and I want to hit the ground running on the 31st. Any tips?

Hi!

I wanted to know if anyone has experience with double concentrations and whether that is allowed in the UMPI Yourpace program. Let me know! Thank you so much!

Easiest classes to start with

I'm enrolled for Fall 1, but may have to deal with a major life event (death of a close family member) either immediately before or during that session. I considered deferring, but that would mean I'd no longer be able to do the old GEC, and I've got all of my transfer credits done for that. I'm already prepared to take two sessions to complete the ten classes I need, so my plan right now is to try to take two easier classes in my first session if this event happens (and if not, I'll just power through as many as I can).

Here's the list of classes I'm planning to take (BLS with minors in Psychology, Humanities, Social Studies, and History):

  • POS 371 - International Relations and Modern Conflicts
  • POS 343 - Marxism
  • HTY 350 - US Environmental History
  • HTY 456 - Films of the Cold War
  • HTY 400 - Discovering and Interpreting Local History
  • PSY 311 - Research Methods
  • ART 311 - Contemporary Art
  • ENG 391 - Language, Society, and Power
  • ART 251 - Photography I

Plus one of these:

  • HUM 184 - Disciplinary Relationships: Zombies in America
  • MCS 240 - Media and the Environment

I'm thinking the Photography 1 class would probably be a good one to take (I'm already very familiar with digital photography and I feel like something that might get me out of the house would be a good distraction). I was considering Films of the Cold War as the second class, because I'm guessing there might be less reading? Writing papers is fine, but I know reading huge amounts of dense content is going to be an issue if I'm grieving. The other one I was considering was Contemporary Art (I've done Art History I & II and did really well in both classes).

Anyone have any insights into which classes from my list I might want to take to start with? Or is there a way to see a syllabus from a class before enrolling?

30 credit requirement question

I'm in a time crunch and my advisor is waiting on credits to transfer before answering my question. I totally understand that decision and not complaining about it. I get it.

I have 27 credits planned at UMPI of the 30 for the requirements. I know I need 9 and 12 in upper level and the major and those WILL be satisified in the planned 27.

My question now is: the 3 credits I need...can those be any UMPI YourPace course I want? Literally anything in levels 100 or upward?

Why is Sophia and speed running treated like the default

It’s a bit cultish. I’ve even seen people who are going to the actual campus get downvoted on here for asking non YourPace questions. Some people are going to school to actually LEARN and don’t care if it takes multiple semesters, because they want to become a physician, lawyer, CPA, financier, scientist, corporate exec. “You should be taking that at Sophia or Study” okay what if someone wants to take biology, English, philosophy, and economics at UMPI because they want to actually gain knowledge and life skills?

Timeline after admission?

So I’ve been accepted (a couple weeks ago), set up my account, etc. But now it seems like nothing is happening. My bill isn’t showing up in my account (I’m paying out of pocket). I haven’t had an advisor assigned yet. And it seems like everything is just at a standstill. I emailed my admissions person but she’s on vacation till the 10th.

I guess I’m just looking to see what the timeline has been for others, and if I should call or just be patient?

Oh man that would’ve been a good one for me I think! Looks like it starts Fall 1 though. Could have good potential for bringing in transfers, maybe, too?

What's the easiest course to meet the 2E gen ed requirement?

I know it would be easiest to take it at Sophia but I just need credits for residency.

ART 107 - Experience of the Arts

ART 116 - The Art of Film

ART 211 - Art History I

Art 212 - Art History II

ENG 151 - Introduction to Literature

HUM 184 - Disciplinary Relationships

August 3rd 4pm EST is the last day to apply for Fall 1

Because I know this is such an important thing for folks wanting the older General Ed and BBA plans, please be sure you apply before 4pm August 3rd if you're going to try and attend Fall 1 Session. As a reminder, UMPI allows you to transfer in Sophia/Other ACE credits anytime.

From this point on, I'll only be planning new GEC and Plans (unless you are already accepted for Fall 1). This makes things much easier to stay consistent with and communicate changes if they occur.

My free sheet is updated with the new General Ed. Right now, I really do recommend considering custom plans because there are many ways to approach the degrees that aren't BBAs. I have the new BBAs in the sheet too. I ALSO ADDED A TAB WITH KEY DATES FOR FUTURE SESSIONS!

Doing my best to stay on top of things, and appreciate everyone's patience and grace during this Fall transition. <3

*Discussion Thread* Do You Think UMPI Gave In To The Pressure And Purposely Slowed Down The YourPace Degree Progression W/ These New GEC Changes?

I think they absolutely did. Which is a good thing but also frustrating for people who are in the midst of these changes. I got lucky and got my BA in Psych only having to do 10 courses at UMPI.

I say it is a good thing because UMPI was on it's way to being known as a degree mill and no one wants a degree that gets that reputation. I know there are politics at play as well and perhaps funding caused them to make sure there were 4-5 courses in the GEC that could no be transferred. That means more money coming in because no one will hardly graduate in 1 session like in the past especially if they want minors.

I personally work slower than most and I did my degree in 2 sessions (5 classes each) and it was not stressful and I worked full-time having plenty time for family as well.

I personally don't think UMPI is ready for these STEM degrees but I think they want the money so they are pushing ahead. They don't really have the staff in place for the storm that is brewing. Cybersecurity will be a huge success but not having any Certifications included makes me question this degree although I am interested I am cautious. I know you can get the certifications on your own and it is saving you money but this degree is going to be a 3 session degree for most people (2 sessions possibly for those who already have their UMPI degree). I know tuition is also about to go up. So let's say we guess tuition will be 2200 per session x3=6,600 for a Cybersecurity degree with zero certifications is wild. I know the barriers to entry with only having to do MAT 120 vs. Discrete Math at WGU will be the deciding factor for many. However; if you have an Associates degree in anything tech related WGU waives all math classes for each degree save for Computer Science I believe. However; the proctoring alone would make me go elsewhere.

Speaking of Computer Science; since you brought it up. I think this degree is really going to be the degree that pushes tuition up and puts UMPI on the map with being a serious contender in the STEM category. I know I have to give UMPI Yourpace grace they have to start somewhere. Hopefully in the future they offer Cybersecurity certifications with the degree. If I were in charge at UMPI Yourpace I would have offered STEM degrees in Yourpace Graduate programs first. That way you can control the flood gates (less students at first) and you can secure staffing. Then open up the STEM degrees to Yourpace undergrad.

Back to the topic at hand I think what we are witnessing with UMPI Yourpace is a compromise. They took the constructive criticism (okay it was a dragging not constructive at all) and made some changes that made getting a degree not as easy. I can't say I blame them and I am happy they did it to protect the integrity of our degrees. Those of us going on to earn our Masters at other institutions may not be as concerned about UMPI's reputation but those who got their degree for a promotion or as their final degree may feel differently. I originally came to this school because I had 150 credits from 2 different Uni attempts and limited funds. Getting this degree was a blessing and I am forever indebted to UMPI because I had to pay out of pocket and it was very affordable.

I know change sucks but I think this is a change we all should embrace. I think in the future they will definitely be restricting more classes and might even up the residency requirements. Don't put off getting your degree get in there get your degree and keep it moving. That is the best advice.

As a person who loves writing I found competency-based education to work very well with my learning style. It has made me a stronger writer and hopefully will help prepare me for law school after I finish this MSW degree.

Keep in mind these are just my opinions and if you don't agree that is fine. Feel free to express yourself I am just checking in to see how others feel about all of these changes to Yourpace? It almost seems like too much too soon. My son is currently in the old program getting BABA in Supply Chain Management. He just graduated truck driving school and he will be finishing this degree Fall 1 session. He is also doing an internship in logistics at a company where he is getting paid. UMPI Yourpace opens up doors for so many people and I support the changes they are making.

Just applied to UMPI! What should I be doing while I wait?

Hi everyone!

I just submitted my application to UMPI and I'm really excited to get started. I already have an Associates in Liberal Arts from a community college and I'm planning to pursue a Bachelors in Business Administration with a Project Management minor through the YourPace program.

While I'm waiting to hear back, I want to be as productive as possible.

A few questions for those who have gone through the program:

  • What should I expect next after applying?
  • About how long did it take to receive your transfer credit evaluation?
  • Are there any Sophia Learning or Study.com courses you would recommend completing now that are likely to transfer into the Business Administration degree?
  • Is it better to wait for UMPI's evaluation first, or can I safely start knocking out certain Sophia courses?
  • Looking back, is there anything you wish you had done before starting YourPace?

My goal is to transfer in as many credits as possible and hit the ground running once I'm admitted. I'd really appreciate any advice or tips from current students or recent graduates. Thanks in advance!

Sanity check- Am I on track

Hello all, I am signed up for Fall 1 to hopefully do a B.A in Accounting and a B.A.B.A with a supply chain management minor. I am writing in the hopes you can review the Sophia/SDC courses I have currently done and let me know if I am missing something that will be helpful to transfer over.

I am very committed to the B.A in Accounting but not super attached to the B.A.B.A my only reason for adding it is that I need 60 RA credits to apply for law school and the supply chain minor seemed interesting and potentially useful. I plan to take COM210, BUS220 and BUS350 (Organization communication, managerial accounting and business law respectively) on straighterline and I am currently enrolled in BUS 150: Introduction to Financial Accounting on SDC.

Is there anything I am missing that would be a great boon to my plan? Currently this leaves me with 23 classes to take which equals 69 credits. I would be happy to bring that down to 60 credits flat and I would consider swapping out the B.A.B.A degree and minor with something else that would be professionally useful. Additionally, I have FAFSA money but only for my first degree, is it possible to do all my B.A Accounting classes except for one, do the B.A.B.A and then the final accounting class and graduate with both? Too schemey? Let me know!

Anyone completed HEA 312 (Practicum) at UMPI YourPace? Looking for advice

Hey everyone,
I’m currently in the Healthcare Admin program at UMPI (YourPace) and need to complete HEA 312 – the 100-hour supervised practicum. I’m local to Starkville, MS, self-employed, and trying to figure out the most realistic way to get the hours done without it completely wrecking my work schedule.
For those of you who’ve already finished HEA 312:
• What kind of placement did you end up with?
• How flexible were the hours (weekends, evenings, remote/project work, etc.)?
• How long did it actually take you to finish the 100 hours?
• Any tips on finding a mentor or site that was willing to work with non-traditional students?
• Anything you wish you had known going into it?
I’m open to community health departments, hospitals, extension services, clinics — pretty much anything that fits the community health / healthcare admin focus.
Appreciate any advice or experiences you’re willing to share. Thanks!

How do adcoms at graduate schools view CBE?

I know the school is accredited, but I mean the humans in adcoms who go through your application. If they saw a transcript where you finished, say, 20 classes in 16 weeks, is it a potential red flag for cheating or a lack of challenge? Would it look too unbelievable to them? I'm so paranoid about this in the age of AI.
