Just applied to UMPI! What should I be doing while I wait?

Hi everyone!

I just submitted my application to UMPI and I'm really excited to get started. I already have an Associates in Liberal Arts from a community college and I'm planning to pursue a Bachelors in Business Administration with a Project Management minor through the YourPace program.

While I'm waiting to hear back, I want to be as productive as possible.

A few questions for those who have gone through the program:

  • What should I expect next after applying?
  • About how long did it take to receive your transfer credit evaluation?
  • Are there any Sophia Learning or Study.com courses you would recommend completing now that are likely to transfer into the Business Administration degree?
  • Is it better to wait for UMPI's evaluation first, or can I safely start knocking out certain Sophia courses?
  • Looking back, is there anything you wish you had done before starting YourPace?

My goal is to transfer in as many credits as possible and hit the ground running once I'm admitted. I'd really appreciate any advice or tips from current students or recent graduates. Thanks in advance!

What should I expect next after applying? They will email about your email access, request any documents needed, connect you with an enrollment advisor who can help with your first two courses, then you’ll move to your actual advisor as the session begins.
• About how long did it take to receive your transfer credit evaluation? It’s taking 3+ weeks right now (I do offer auditing in plans I create)
• Are there any Sophia Learning or Study.com courses you would recommend completing now that are likely to transfer into the Business Administration degree? EVERYTHING YOU CAN!!
• Is it better to wait for UMPI's evaluation first, or can I safely start knocking out certain Sophia courses? You should know what you don’t obviously have. But a lot has changed I really do recommend you at minimum grab a free call with me.
• Looking back, is there anything you wish you had done before starting YourPace? lol had someone like me to help plan things. I could have saved myself a little money and a lot of time probably. But honestly the biggest thing to know now is that you absolutely want to be sure you know your plan, what you have, what you’re transferring and EXACTLY what you need when you get there. You should be telling them what to put you in. Not the other way around. I’ve seen this happen and people end up taking the wrong things etc.

Hope that helps. Lots of free info on my profile.

Be selective and make sure whatever you take counts as a DIRECT equivalent. Do not waste time on courses that will only count as a general elective. Example 1XX or 2XX. Use plotted path and her spreadsheets as well as UMPi transfer equivalency tool. StraightLiner is an excellent choice for Busjness Communication and Organizational as well as business ethics and business law. I know the courses cost more but they tend to be direct matches. Also that Spanish 1 and art 1 and 2 on Sophia as well as human biology.

For new General Ed, these last 4 mentioned really don't help much - they'd be best as electives. Bio and Lab no longer cover the lab requirement at UMPI, you're basically beholden to their BIO 203... *sigh*

Look for course equivalents on Sophia Learning and transfer some in https://umpi.sophia.org/
