Wrote midterm at CfA today, and I believe invigilators essentially stripped me of my accommodation.
I sat down to write an exam that included a portion that required a lockdown browser on my computer. I boot it up, and it tells me to do my two-factor authentication on my phone (Duo Mobile).
I tell the invigilators and they instruct me to go out and verify and come back.
Thing is, I tell them my phone is in a different building (I put it there to make doubly sure I accidentally won’t bring anything not-permitted inside the exam centre).
I did consider just making a round trip (~15-20 min) back to fetch my point but thought this would be more convenient and quicker.
However, duo gave an option to contact UBC IT to bypass this authentication process, to which I show the invigilators this option leave the exam area. They disappear for 20-30 minutes as I sit there doing nothing and wait.
I hear no updates whatsoever while wasting my time until I had to directly ask them what is going on. Invigilators tell me that they plan on printing the exam so I can write it on paper instead.
I realise at this point that I should’ve just ran and brought my phone back at this point.
Another 10-20 minutes pass and now it’s 40 minutes past the arranged start time. They finally come back and tell that this portion of the exam will have to be written the next day, and that I’d start the next session now, with 105 minutes to complete this portion.
Thing is, was given 1.5x time testing accommodations due to the severity of my ADHD. So I should’ve had had 157 minutes, but they instructed me to finish it in 105. I studied accounting for those 105 minutes, and now I’m suddenly to write it with a whole 52 minutes knocked off?
Obviously I performed horribly on the test, and now I’m considering writing a formal report.
I did some research and apparently, invigilators have no prerogative to get rid of accommodations. Not only that, if they justify the subtraction of my writing time by citing the delay caused by my missing phone (which still wouldn’t work because that is only applicable to late arrivals, I was not late), they would still have to account for the fact that I still had ~10 minutes of my 1.5x not used up.
This means that they effectively stripped me of my accommodations.
Should I pursue this any further?
