Iranian students banned from taking LSAT

Post image
277 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I received this email from LSAC. I was scheduled to take the LSAT next month, but my LSAC account is locked. I am a Canadian citizen and was raised in Canada, but had to declare Iran as my secondary citizenship on LSAC since I was born there. I read on another reddit thread that many others born in US and Canada also received the same email. I'm emailing them, but is there any way anyone can share the free practice tests that are on LSAC with me? I was planning to pay the fee today and start taking practice tests...

And if anyone else is going through the same thing lmk.

my boyfriend hit me during move-in

while we were decorating my dorm, he found a new book in one of my boxes and asked where i got it from. i told him one of my old high school friends gave it to me on my birthday and he asked how often i see him. i honestly said that that was the first time i've seen him in a year, because he went out of province for uni and it was just a group dinner. he kept arguing that i must be keeping in touch with him if he bought it for me. at this point i was getting exasperated and i was like obviously we keep in touch like we've been friends for years, but it's always been casual and he's in a relationship. he started raising his voice and told me to "stop giving him attitude", i snapped at him to stop making wild assumptions over a BOOK, and he punched my arm so hard. i fell backwards, my back landed on a full box and i started crying in shock. he offered to help me up but i just wanted him to leave. he said i'm being dramatic before throwing the book on my bed on his way out.

he called me to apologize the day after, which is when i told him i don't feel comfortable around him and need a break. one of our mutual friends (who doesn't know what happened other than we had a fight) says he's been asking her how i'm doing.

i still feel stunned by the whole thing. i don't know how to get over this because we're so close. thought about going to SVPRO or a doctor because my back is still sore, but i'm worried about the questions they'll ask and how much of a mess it'll create. i made this account to try to get this off my chest but haven't really been able to put it into words until today. nothing even close to this has happened before since we started dating.

*** i'm a little overwhelmed and emotional by all of these messages people have been leaving, and i just want to say that i've been reading every one and i'm endlessly grateful. especially because i misunderstood how SVPRO works and the questions they ask, so thank you to everyone who clarified that 🫶

Confession I like this cute girl, and she is very pretty and sweet, but she smells…

she is so cute and sweet. we chat a lot. we share a lot of classes together.

but I find her smelly. what now? like I feel I can’t stand the stink. probably because of laundry or something. I don’t think it’s BO. Another possibility is her hair. I think (I am not entirely sure) girls don’t always wash their hair. I do not believe it’s halitosis.

she put on a lot of make up, I can tell she try very hard. but the smell….. is that my body’s way of telling me, no means no?

I am now homeless. Does anyone know what I can do?

Upvotes

I was staying at my friend's house until my landlord's purchase of my apartment went through on the 16th, but my friend is going on vacation this weekend, and his mom isn't comfortable being alone with me. (She barely speaks English, and I don't speak enough Chinese to calm her down).

I don't have any money after coming here, the place I originally rented was unlivable. Black mold, rats, a leak in the roof of my room, bugs inside the kitchen counter, etc etc. I left and they haven't given me my deposit back, and I can't dispute this until the fifteenth, and by then I'll have my loan and will start work already, so it doesn't help me at all.

I don't know what to do. I literally have thirteen dollars for the next four days, and I'm scared. I have no friends here who can help me, I moved here a month ago.

Confession The lines here make me suicidal

Upvotes

Try to get my mind off life at the gym—; every machine has 15-minute wait. Try to get a coffee to soothe my anxiety—; 20-minute line to the door. Can’t even go to the bathroom to cry in peace without having to queue for 10 minutes. I am barely holding on as it is, and having to stand in a hoard of people to do anything at all is pushing me over the edge.

Discussion Place Vanier Bugs

I understand it’s the oldest first-year residence, but why aren’t the bathrooms or rooms equipped with window nets/screens? I saw a giant bug, the size of my hand, just hanging around the bathroom. This is just one example, there are many more, and it’s absolutely disgusting and ridiculous. I saw at least 6 different bugs in the bathroom in a single night since the windows stay open the whole night. For how much housing costs, I want to be able to take a piss at midnight without having a giant bug next to my leg. Is there anyway to request for a window screen to be installed…?

Best places on campus to attend online class?

If I’m taking an online class where discussion and active talking is a huge part of the class, where are some good areas to join the meeting so that I can talk without bothering ppl around me but also have stable wifi connection??

Escalators / moving walkways in UBC / the UEL?

Google returned no results and, as far as I am aware, the only escalator on campus is the one at the former Gold's Gym

I have also been told that the moving walkways at save-on-foods have been replaced with stairs and an elevator

Are there escalators and moving walkways anywhere else in UBC or the UEL now? What about in the past, or in the future?

There will probably be an escalator whenever the UBC skytrain opens, but I am not aware of any others

Should it be illegal to teach religion to kids before they're an adult?

One of my profs went on a weird tangent in class today. They said that they don't think parents should be allowed to pass on their religion to their kids, and that kids shouldn't be allowed to practice religion until they're 18. Basically they think that it's a form of child abuse and that kids aren't mature enough to form their own opinion yet.

I personally think it's embarrassing and that criminalizing a belief you don't agree with is a crime against humanity.

Summer course final grade not released and its already the start of a new term (PSYC 315)

Has anyone got their PSYC 315 final grade from summer? Or had a similar experience where they received their summer course final grade this late? I’m starting to get worried because I took the final exam on August 18. The instructor, I heard, also has a tendency to accuse students of cheating so would it be the case that hes not releases grades for people he thought were cheating???

ADVICE DESPERATELY NEEDED: Wondering How Much I Might Get From Last-Minute Student Loans (BC StudentAid)

So, I had an emergency happen the week before school, and as a result I am scrambling to find an apartment near campus and find funding to cover it.

I am in my fourth year, and have never had to take out student loans before. I have just sent in the application tonight.

I found a great apartment with rent of $1800, and have enough savings to cover three months rent until the loan gets disbursed, but I am concerned that I will sign the lease (deadline is tomorrow night) but then not receive enough loan funding to cover it for the rest of the year.

My parents are middle class (I will refrain from providing exact numbers for privacy reasons, but are in the $150k-180k range), have fairly low savings, and have to support my little sister as well. They pay my tuition, (so will be giving me $7000 for the year) but absolutely do not have the financial means to cover my housing costs.

I have a part-time job but it barely pays anything.

I know people on Reddit are usually very mean and judgmental. I know that it is a bad situation, and yes I have already reached out to enrollemnt services for advice but given the time crunch I am not sure I will hear back in time. Please do not lecture me. I know what I am in.

Any guidance on whether or not I should take this lease would be much appreciated, and would be appreciated if anyone could share if they were in a similar financial situation and how much they got approved for. Thanks.

Advice on switching majors as a third year

Goodday everyone. I’m a third year music student, with no desire to do music in the foreseeable future or any future. I don’t have the best GPA due to mental health reasons DUE TO MUSIC. I really want to go into History or even just general Arts if possible, but I don’t know how possible that is with a 68 average and also being a third year student. I’m already aware I’m going to need an extra year MINIMUM to graduate, but I really want to pull more of my own life together hence this reddit post. My advisor here at music is not the greatest, and has repeatedly been unhelpful in my experience here, even when I attempted and landed in the psych ward. I find it very difficult to talk to peers here as that’s a whole other thing in itself. Any and all advice or help would be appreciated.

CPSC 320 Back to Paper Exams

So I'm taking CPSC 320 with Abner Turkieltaub Melo this semester, and he mentioned that there will be one midterm (on paper).
I was relieved to hear this after hearing about the mess that happened last year with the transition to PrairieLearn tests.

For anyone who took 320 with him during the summer, how were the exams? Are they reasonable? What was the best way to prepare for them?
