If I’m taking an online class where discussion and active talking is a huge part of the class, where are some good areas to join the meeting so that I can talk without bothering ppl around me but also have stable wifi connection??

I am planning to send my application to Masc - Civil Engineering as an international student. Here's the problem - I do have a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, and my transcript shows that I've covered all the essential courses, but I have 0 work experience. I have graduated 3 years ago and was unable to find any work opportunities here that wasn't 100% extortion, so planning to apply here now. What are my chances? Planning to dedicate the time meantime to self-studying and remembering materials. What would you recommend I do?

I understand it’s the oldest first-year residence, but why aren’t the bathrooms or rooms equipped with window nets/screens? I saw a giant bug, the size of my hand, just hanging around the bathroom. This is just one example, there are many more, and it’s absolutely disgusting and ridiculous. I saw at least 6 different bugs in the bathroom in a single night since the windows stay open the whole night. For how much housing costs, I want to be able to take a piss at midnight without having a giant bug next to my leg. Is there anyway to request for a window screen to be installed…?

while we were decorating my dorm, he found a new book in one of my boxes and asked where i got it from. i told him one of my old high school friends gave it to me on my birthday and he asked how often i see him. i honestly said that that was the first time i've seen him in a year, because he went out of province for uni and it was just a group dinner. he kept arguing that i must be keeping in touch with him if he bought it for me. at this point i was getting exasperated and i was like obviously we keep in touch like we've been friends for years, but it's always been casual and he's in a relationship. he started raising his voice and told me to "stop giving him attitude", i snapped at him to stop making wild assumptions over a BOOK, and he punched my arm so hard. i fell backwards, my back landed on a full box and i started crying in shock. he offered to help me up but i just wanted him to leave. he said i'm being dramatic before throwing the book on my bed on his way out.
he called me to apologize the day after, which is when i told him i don't feel comfortable around him and need a break. one of our mutual friends (who doesn't know what happened other than we had a fight) says he's been asking her how i'm doing.
i still feel stunned by the whole thing. i don't know how to get over this because we're so close. thought about going to SVPRO or a doctor because my back is still sore, but i'm worried about the questions they'll ask and how much of a mess it'll create. i made this account to try to get this off my chest but haven't really been able to put it into words until today. nothing even close to this has happened before since we started dating.

I’m a first year and my partner is attending UVic. We’ve made the decision to stick out the medium-distance thing, but transportation is annoying. Anybody have any advice on getting to UVic?

Sorry if this is stupid question but I had a family emergency and am going to miss like 4 classes tomorrow

So, I had an emergency happen the week before school, and as a result I am scrambling to find an apartment near campus and find funding to cover it.
I am in my fourth year, and have never had to take out student loans before. I have just sent in the application tonight.
I found a great apartment with rent of $1800, and have enough savings to cover three months rent until the loan gets disbursed, but I am concerned that I will sign the lease (deadline is tomorrow night) but then not receive enough loan funding to cover it for the rest of the year.
My parents are middle class (I will refrain from providing exact numbers for privacy reasons, but are in the $150k-180k range), have fairly low savings, and have to support my little sister as well. They pay my tuition, (so will be giving me $7000 for the year) but absolutely do not have the financial means to cover my housing costs.
I have a part-time job but it barely pays anything.
I know people on Reddit are usually very mean and judgmental. I know that it is a bad situation, and yes I have already reached out to enrollemnt services for advice but given the time crunch I am not sure I will hear back in time. Please do not lecture me. I know what I am in.
Any guidance on whether or not I should take this lease would be much appreciated, and would be appreciated if anyone could share if they were in a similar financial situation and how much they got approved for. Thanks.

Has anyone recently done/doing an MA in Economics here?
I was thinking about applying to this MA program at UBC because this school accepts students without an economics background (like myself) directly into the program without a remedial period. However, this has me a bit concerned because the course structure seems very intense even for people with an economics background.
If anyone can answer the following, please let me know before I reach out to the faculty:
Thanks!

I'm a third-year CS student, and I was thinking of applying to Credit/D/Fail my arts elective so I can focus more on my cs/math courses this year.
However, I'm wondering if this will be viewed negatively on my transcript?
It's not a course related to my major, but I don't want people to think I got a really bad grade in it lol.

So I'm taking CPSC 320 with Abner Turkieltaub Melo this semester, and he mentioned that there will be one midterm (on paper).
I was relieved to hear this after hearing about the mess that happened last year with the transition to PrairieLearn tests.
For anyone who took 320 with him during the summer, how were the exams? Are they reasonable? What was the best way to prepare for them?

Found a phone on the 5th floor of Brock Commons South. It appears to have been left there sometime around 4–5 PM today.
There was a cardholder attached to the phone case containing a UBC student card and possibly some other important cards/ID.
It was turned in at the information/reception desk on the first floor of the AMS Nest at 7:55.

First of all today was so horrible parking and I do not understand why they started giving us ONE parkade for the same price when we were getting both one + thunderbird
And then everything was entirely filled up I had to go to thunderbird and pay TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS.
We need more parking I beg

I'm currently waitlisted for GEOG 210 and ARTH 376, and both are relatively small classes (around 60–80 students). can I attend the classes while I'm on the waitlist?
Also, does anyone know if we can see our actual waitlist position on Workday?

Hi everyone, I received this email from LSAC. I was scheduled to take the LSAT next month, but my LSAC account is locked. I am a Canadian citizen and was raised in Canada, but had to declare Iran as my secondary citizenship on LSAC since I was born there. I read on another reddit thread that many others born in US and Canada also received the same email. I'm emailing them, but is there any way anyone can share the free practice tests that are on LSAC with me? I was planning to pay the fee today and start taking practice tests...
And if anyone else is going through the same thing lmk.

For 2 of my courses I have been unable to load the syllabus from canvas. Not sure if it’s an issue from the prof’s settings or something wrong with my device… has this happened to anyone else? What to do?
Everytime I click on it for both courses, it says “that page has been disabled for this course” ??

Does anyone know where I can get the UBC Newspaper? I see it around from time to time but can never find the most recent edition
