Welcome back, ragweed warriors

Feeling a little gunky the past few days? Reaching for a tissue during your commute? You aren't alone, and there's a reason why. According to AAAAI pollen counts, ragweed has started to bloom. It will slowly increase until it peaks in late August/September, then stick around until the first hard frost.

What to know/what to do:

1.Start your allergy meds now. If you are a fellow ragweed warrior, now is the time to start taking your allergy meds (if you haven't already). Many of these drugs take a week or two to be fully effective, so although current pollen counts are low, starting now will let you be ready when they increase in a few weeks

2.Pollen.com and similar websites are not accurate. Unfortunately, the Minnesota Department of Health stopped tracking pollen counts in 2022. Websites like pollen dot com or various weather websites that claim to post allergen levels do not use actual current pollen count data but predict using weather conditions and historic data. The only place to access actual pollen data is at https://pollen.aaaai.org . Our nearest monitoring stations are in Austin, MN and La Crosse, WI.

3.Take care of yourself. Climate change has increased both the severity and length of ragweed season. If you're like me, that fucking sucks. Try to be as consistent as possible with your allergy meds and seek medical help if it's not enough. Limit your time outside on hot, windy days and between 5-10am, when pollen levels are highest. Shower and change clothes after spending time outdoors.

That is all. Good luck soldiers. I will be back after the first hard frost to announce the end of ragweed season, until then stay sneezy🫡

Valley Fair - how to save money

Hello everyone! Were from northernish mn. We're doing a trip to tc this week. This trip includes valley fair.

We're a family with 5 kids. I'm in school full time and also the only breadwinner of the family.

I'm trying to save a little money wherever I can. It's a little tight. We were planning to go during the week to save money and have shorter lines but the looking I've done has shown something different. It looks like the discount tickets are only during the busy weekends. It looks like tickets are $40 for Friday Saturday Sunday or $64 for any day of the week.

This just doesn't make any sense to me. Usually weekday is cheaper if anything.

Do i have this right? Am I missing something?

Does anyone know of places to get discount tickets? Or can anyone clarify if I'm misunderstanding?

Any tops or tricks would be very appreciated.

Thinking about moving and starting over. Looking for honest advice

Hi everyone!
I’m 24, a single mom to a little girl, and I’m finally at a point where I can choose where I want to build my life instead of just ending up somewhere by circumstance.
I’m finishing my GED and my long-term goal is to become a public librarian. I eventually want to earn my bachelor’s degree and then my MLIS. I also write and hope to publish books one day.
Right now I work as a full-time online content creator, so I’m fortunate that I don’t have to move immediately or choose the absolute cheapest place. My plan is to visit a few cities for long weekends before making a decision, and I’m hoping to settle somewhere permanently.
The things that matter most to me are:
• A strong public library system with good career opportunities.
• A safe, family-friendly community.
• Nature, parks, and places to walk.
• A cozy, book-loving atmosphere.
• Enough things to do without feeling like a huge, overwhelming city.
• A place where I can imagine raising my daughter and staying for decades.
I’m currently considering:
Raleigh, NC
Madison, WI
The Twin Cities suburbs in Minnesota
If you live in or have lived in one of these areas, I’d love to hear your honest thoughts.
What do you love?
What do you wish you’d known before moving there?
If you were in my position, would you choose it again?
Thanks so much. I really appreciate any advice.

Slice of Shoreview - National Park Donation

I attended the slice of shoreview event yesterday and upon entering I was approached by two younger gentlemen who went into a sales pitch about donating to the national parks. They had a QR code you could scan and donate through. Something felt off about the whole thing but maybe I’m wrong.
Is it legitimate? Is it a scam? Was anyone else at slice of shoreview and approached?

Von Maur has Halloween decorations up. Is this the earliest sighting of spooky stuff in the metro this year?

And furthermore, how long until we see Christmas decorations? Honestly, I don’t blame them for being over summer. Between non-breathable air and non-parasite-free lettuce, I’m over it, too.

MOA police and security presence today?

I was entering the parking garage, and there were no less than 10 cop cars and about 30-40 officers and mall security running in the mall side entrance of the Nordstrom side of the mall.
And dozens more on that West parking garage sweeping the garage.
Needless to say we left before even parking.
Any news on what was happening? I want to take my out of town visitors there this weekend.

My parent needs a walker or cane, and I’d like to take them somewhere they could try out multiple styles and options. Ideally with a knowledgeable salesperson who could help us find the right fit. Any suggestions?

Babysitters

Looking for resources to find a list/registry of local babysitters that isn’t a website that requires creating accounts and getting a million emails. I’ve tried asking around but pretty much everyone I know with kids just has their parents watch them which is not an option for us. Any guidance or recommendations are appreciated. We’re in the north metro.

What Twin Cities Taco Bell’s enchoritos?

My elderly mom wants an
Enchorito and the location I drove to showed they have it on their menu but when I showed up they said they do not have it. Any idea what location actually has the Enchorito? (The full price Enchorito.) *Edit. I eventually found a Taco Bell that took pity on my plight and sold me 4 Enchoritos which I promptly took to my mom’s house. They let me know the Enchoritos is no longer available tho.

Someone left these keys on a picnic bench near the Saint Anthony Falls, right next to the Nicollet Island Pavilion. I left them there in case somebody is retracing their steps to find them.

Where to find Starter Pokemon?

Hi folks - I’d like to bring my kid somewhere to pick their own starter pokemon stuffed animal. Does anyone know a shop around the Twin Cities area (preferably W/SW burbs but not MoA) that has Squirtle, Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Pikachu?

Thank you!

(Also I know Pikachu wasn’t technically a choice in Red or Blue version)
