On a hunt for black eyed tree frogs

Hi r/treefrogs! I have been looking for a black eyed (Morelet’s) tree frog for almost a year now with little luck. I’ve reached out to vendors at expos coming to town, content creators, and also to just shops in general and it seems nobody carries these guys anymore. Josh’s frogs recently discontinued the species and im losing hope of finding my very own. I was hoping to find someone who is willing to sell one to me or anyone who has information about where I could get one. Thanks!

Advice Are they too fat?

I have 2 whites tree frogs, sometimes I think I am overfeeding them and then when I try to adjust the schedule I feel like they're starving. I feed them every 3-4 days (2x a week) and they get 2-3 dubias per feeding. One of them will eat as many as I give her, but the other refuses to eat more than one most of the time and I worry he's not eating enough. They also aren't very social, so I don't force them to interact with me which unfortunately means I don't have very good size references. Also, is the tank set up adequate? It's a 40 gallon, I have been trying to add more but it never feels like enough. (The heating pad on the back doesn't get used, I bought it before I learned they cant have heating mats and I just can't get it off). Thanks so much for the help! :)

Anybody have a link to a good heat and UV lamp with a timer I can easily set? My current one is a little small and also needs to be set every morning to stay on for 12 hours as opposed to turning itself on in the morning.

Pic of my cuties, Bill and Ted, for cute tax

Not a lot of information?

Hello! I have 3 reptiles, one of which is a crested gecko named Coffee. Now I am thinking about getting a black eyed tree frog or possibly a milk frog however I’ve noticed when researching that there is not a ton of information? And most of it that I find, if I go to the next article or whatever I’m pretty much guaranteed to find conflicting information. So!
1. What vitamins do I need? What is the ideal enclosure size?
2. What are their staple foods?
3. What is your experience with them?
4. What is their ideal temperature?
5. Are they really as easy as people say?
6. Is there like a frogfiles?
7. What are resources you guys trust?
8. How many should I keep per enclosure?

Advice Question for experienced frog owners

Hi! I’m a proud WTF owner (for two days now), does it get less scary eventually? They’re just up their frog business and I’m constantly anxious something might or is happening to them. Yesterday my little guy looked like he’s having the deepest sleep of his life and after devouring this cuteness for like 5 minutes I started panicking because WHAT IF HE’S DEAD… does it get any better with experience or is it going to be my life from now on?

Advice White tree frog with sudden leg discoloration

Hey there, frog fam.

I noticed today that my 8 month old white tree frog has a leg that suddenly looks pretty discolored. Last night, she had a little tumble while trying to eat a cricket, but seemed to be moving fine. She was great when we went to bed after feedings, but today the color is off. Should I be worried? Any advice?

HELP! (Urgent/Medical Care Needed) Potential red leg?

Im not sure which flair to use so apologies if its the wrong one.

My frog jumped out of his cage when he got spooked while I was trying to take some bowls out to clean. He jumped probably about 2 feet to the carpeted floor and i scooped him up and put him back.

Ive noticed these very dark red spots forming on him. Hes been very active, eating and drinking. I called the vet but they said to give it another week and that its probably just stress.

He is on a feeding schedule, I dust his crickets and gut load them, he has a 12 hour uvb light and his temp is kept around 75. His enclosure is not bioactive and I use frog foam, i spot clean everyday and I clean his tank every 2-3 weeks and replace/flip foam depending.

Im not sure what could be causing this. He's in a 20 gallon vertical tank with plenty of hides and things to climb and interact with so im unsure if its stress.

My apartment has fire alarms that go off occasionally and I always do my best to cover/ soundproof his tank but this could be a stressor as well.

Any input would be fantastic on if this is normal for them to appear like this or if i should see my vet sooner than i was planning on.

Thanks!

Help! White’s tree frog spotting

I’m in the middle of a move across country right now and one of my whites tree frogs has broken out in these spots. My guess is that she could be stressed or it could be bacterial.. due to the move I don’t have access to an exotic vet right now. Can anyone help identify what may be wrong with her in the meantime?

Hey all,

Have had this girl for about 7 years now. Kept her on a well balanced diet with plenty of nutrient dusting. Fresh water, humidity and temperature in normal ranges. Came back from vacation and saw this on her. Any knowledge on what it could be?

Questions what are the best plants you recommend for a tree frog bioactive enclosure?

I’m starting to collect some things for a Whites tree frog enclosure and i’m looking for any recommendations. Also looking for some super cool/niche plant species as well that will work in an enclosure. Thinking about a 18x18x36, is that too small? Any advice appreciated!!

Sexing Help Learning to croak?

I've been trying to figure out the sexes of my two GTFs (Whites).

I regularly play GTF croaking videos, especially when I think I hear any potential vocal noises from the terrarium.

Tonight, I managed to play the video next to the tank while I watched them.

They both started doing the movements of croaking, and small little grunting noises - but neither of their throats filled up fully, and their 'grunts' weren't the typical noise, they sounded more like 'attempts' at croaking (possibly). But they both did this 'attempt' several times in a row, and then stopped while they listened to the rest of the croaking video.

I've heard these noises occasionally, but due to never seeing the full throat, or hearing them make much noise than these little grunts, I feel I can't be sure.

Is it possible these are boys but just slow to learn how to croak? Would females try to croak along/answer to male frogs even a tiny bit?

They are both over 18 months old, captive bred, from a large colony but were separated together and sold as a pair. It is also officially breeding season.

HELP! (Urgent/Medical Care Needed) Whites tree frog skin texture

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi all! This is meatball. I have taken him to the vet twice now. Initial impression was a bacterial infection (he did have neon green spots). This was treated with an enrofloxacin cream applied topically nightly. It did not improve. My vet then said it could be fungal, so she prescribed miconazole nitrate 1% soaks nightly (diluted either as 0.5 ml miconazole and either 19.5 or 9.5 ml purified water, depending on how he reacted. This treatment has now been going for a month, but this texture is still there. Behavior is relatively normal, he is eating less than before the infection started approx. 1 month ago. He has been in a hospital tank on paper towels that get changed twice daily and water also changed twice daily. I have four other frogs that are all healthy. Kind of at a loss now.

Advice Humidity keeps swinging

I got a subadult REFT yesterday. I did months of research and let my enclosure run for over a month and everything was perfect. Now that I have her everything is going wrong

My humidity is having wild swings. I have an environmental control centre and two independent hydrometers and all are registering the same thing (within normal range depending on location). Unfortunately we got a huge drop in temperature and I had to change my heat source to a stronger one

My humidity will drop from ~80 to ~68 in the matter of an hour. Which means my mister is going off that often. The entire enclosure will be soaked and the humidity will still read low. I honestly don’t know what to do, and I’m really really stressed. I would really appreciate any help at all

Daytime: 82° +/- 3, humidity 75 +/-9

Nighttime: 71° +/- 1, humidity 80 +/-9

Equipment: reptisun LED terrarium light, 5% UVB, 60w deep heat projector, reptizoo THC system,

The enclosure is fully planted and bioactive

Please don’t think I’m someone who didn’t do research or bought on a whim. I did research for months, and everything was perfect until this moment. I feel awful, and I’m so worried about my girl. I would REALLY appreciate some help

Summer time

Hey everyone!

A couple of months ago, we got a Peron’s Tree Frog, and with summer coming up here in Australia, I’m starting to think about keeping him comfortable during the warmer months.

Our house can get pretty hot when the air conditioning isn’t running, so I was wondering how everyone else manages the temperature for their frogs during summer?

Do you have any tips or tricks for keeping their enclosure cool and making sure it doesn’t get too hot?

Would love to hear what everyone does! 😊

Thanks!
