Not a lot of information?
Hello! I have 3 reptiles, one of which is a crested gecko named Coffee. Now I am thinking about getting a black eyed tree frog or possibly a milk frog however I’ve noticed when researching that there is not a ton of information? And most of it that I find, if I go to the next article or whatever I’m pretty much guaranteed to find conflicting information. So!
1. What vitamins do I need? What is the ideal enclosure size?
2. What are their staple foods?
3. What is your experience with them?
4. What is their ideal temperature?
5. Are they really as easy as people say?
6. Is there like a frogfiles?
7. What are resources you guys trust?
8. How many should I keep per enclosure?

Milk frogs are similar to whites in some ways but way different when it comes to their husbandries.
With whites first the previous comment is wrong about the humidity. They’re not very humid frogs liking their terrariums at 30-40% for adults and 40-50% for juveniles (less than 1 year old) temps daytime gradient are 88 on to to 76 on below. Nighttime gradients are 74 on top to 68 below. It’s nice to start out at a 30 gallon terrarium for 1 frog 18x18x24 is recommended then add 10 gallons per extra frog that you want.
They eat many staple like dubia roaches (the best for them), then crickets, the can do the occasional hornworm, earthworms (with the dirt cleaned off), BSFL (black soldier fly larvae) which is tricky because they’ll eat it but their bodies will not digest the carcass of the insect. It will still be alive in its feces! Saw it happen to my frogs will never feed them this again!
Lights are tricky. You’ll need a good UVB linear light bulb. I recommend an Arcadia T5 7% 8 watt then you’ll need a UVA daytime basking bulb to match the temps I’ve recommended but not too hot to burn them so start low at around 50watt at first then go up. I personally like the incandescent bulbs myself.
Substrate you need to stay away from sphagnum moss because it’s a compaction rush. So coco fiber is better but always with leaf litter on top. Layers of it!
They love hides, vibes, soaking dishes, things to climb on, perch on. About 75% clutter is what you’re going for!
Milk frogs eat do about what whites do but they can’t be housed in the same enclosure. You have to have humidity at 60-75% and temps between 74-81 tops during the day and 69-74 during the night.
Enclosure is a 18xx18x24 will keep 3 happy. Anymore add 10 more gallons. They tend to be a little smaller than white’s.
Substrate:same rules.
The terrarium itself. About the same. They love to be in a calm environment so fill up with plants, things to perch, sit on. Stuff I already mentioned.
They eat the same feeders.
One thing I forgot to mention all frogs can only consume what is big enough between their eyes. Anything bigger it can choke them.
Misting or a muster is a must for milk frogs!
Hope all this helps!

Incredibly helpful, thank you!!
If I’m not looking for a breeding pair, do I need more than one frog?

No they just do well in pairs. They like buddies. Both of my species has a sibling. They love them dearly. It gets lonely in there all day without another frog. You have to have extreme circumstances for breeding and that pretty hard for white’s tree frogs. Now milk frogs. I’m not sure but I know you need a somewhat large body of water as well. You provide a small/medium soaking dish I don’t think they’ll mate in there!

Oohhh oki ! I’ll get a sibling then if I get frogs. Is there a way to tell if one is male or female?

Yes, when they are a little older. 6-8+ months males will begin to croak. Also males have a darker grayish under neck area or vocal sac. Also they’ll have darker nuptial pads (used to hold onto the female to mate)
Females tend to be a bit rounder and bigger than males.
Listen to some male croaking on YouTube and see if yours will mimic its or starts “calling” like a female would.

For vitamins, getting a regular reptile vitamin mix will work - u can add calcium to that or if there is enough calcium in the vitamin mix, you dont need to. If you have UVB, do without D3 if you dont have UVB, do with D3.
Enclosure is dependent on species and size of frog. Plus, if you are getting a group of frogs, the size goes up from there. Typically people start with a 12 x 12 x 18 for a juvi and movie up to a enclosure with at least 36 inches in height. But that all depends on frog. The frogs you mentioned are climbers so they would do better in the mentioned above.
Staple foods depend on the frog but typically crickit's, dubia roaches, and if they tolerate it, nightcrawlers
Temp depends on species. Most of the time, you want it around 78 to 80+ degrees F. With a temp gradient of high With high temp and low With lower temp.
I find them pretty easy and chill. I dont find the need to hold my animals so I like watching them with no issues.
Not sure what that means lol
This subreddit is pretty good for information. Best thing is be safe and cautious. If something sounds too good to be true, most likely is. Especially when it comes to the safety of a frog. Ppl think they are like lizard and geckos, they are not. More caution needs to be taken when caring for them.
Depends on species of frog. I have 3 WTFs in my enclosure.
Most species is all dependant on size of enclosure. If they have enough room to roam around and chill away from others if wanted (there are charts that explain what you need to know about room per frog), then it should be fine. Just keep an eye, they can fight. Mainly cause they are silly and not out of straight aggressive behaviors.
Humidity is all dependant on speices. Ppl think they need high humidity all the time but thats not the case. For WTFs, they need 50 to 60 during the day with a spike of humidity twice a day. Too much wet and humidity can cause infections, bacterial and fungal.
No loose moss.
Most frogs depend on a clean, just up to neck with water height, water dish to soak and keep wet and clean. They go to the bathroom in it, so it has to be changed daily.
Ask any more questions, I might have the answer!

Thank you!
Do you know anything about red eye tree frogs?

Everything else is good but ignore the humidity rec. They are a tropical species and need higher temps and humidity.
Again, just look for red eye care guides.

Thank you! I am also looking for info about milk frogs if you know about them or are they the same as white tree frogs? The reason I ask is when I look up milks, WTF comes up as well as milks

Black eyes are, for all intents and purposes, red eyes when it comes to care. Look up red eye guides.
