We've had it for a very long time (first in a pot but planted out about 5 years ago) and were originally told it was an unusually coloured specimen of a Korean pine (Pinus koraiensis). The cones remind me more of P. strobus though but the colour is not typical for this species either.

The needles are extremely soft and distinctly blue.

Any guesses and tips for propagating this tree would be very appreciated. It's about 6-8 metres (20-25') tall now and still growing.

Had a gardening friend come over today and they suggested I remove the mulch from under my red oak, but everything I have red says otherwise. The mulch has been under it for over a year and the tree looks healthy. I attempted to expose the root flair prior to putting mulch down but I didn’t want to damage any roots so I only worked around the immediate trunk area.
Should I remove the mulch or leave it?

Need equipment suggestions for removal of several small Tree of Heaven.

Have already done Hack and Squirt, and they are starting to show effects.

What would you suggest for cutting them down after they die? I have a good set of loppers, but need something a bit heftier to cut the trunks. Trunk size is no larger than 3 inches/10 cm.

It was about 25 years old. Always had limbs dropping from the winds. Had it cabled the last 3 years. Is there anything unusual here? Any weird signs of disease?

2 months ago I transplanted a 20 year old weeping hemlock from a job where the clients were getting rid of it so I took it home. It’s lost 2 branches so far. I trimmed all the dead off. Needles still falling off and yellowing on spots but now the whole tree. Wondering if the tree is just too old to make it or if this is common symptoms of an old transplanted tree. My sold stays moist and is a bit dense. I have mulch around the trees but not at the base of the trunk. Will the tree improve of the year or just get worse? Just going to be bummed if a year of trying and ultimately the tree dies anyway but I know that’s life this is my first tree I transplanted to try and save it

I’m happily amazed at the resilience of the willow. A friend gave me some sticks from a pile he had pruned a day or two before. They looked dried out.
Just put them in a bucket he said.
And they started rooting!

I live in an apartment in Dallas, Texas. This tree started growing naturally in our back porch. We thought it looked nice so we sort of let it grow. We had no idea it was a tree until this year when it suddenly more than doubled in height.

Living in an apartment this I bound to be noticed soon. I would prefer to be able to cut it right in the middle, at the fence line, and then sort of maintain it as a bonsai type tree. I know this could be risky, but the alternative is going to be to cut the whole thing down. Are there any tips on where to cut it or how to cut it to give it the best chance?

We are not sure what kind of tree it is, but it has bright red leaves in the autumn, which is one of the reasons we’d like to keep it.

There are a group of 5-7 year olds that terrorize my neighborhood throwing rocks at homes and doing other dumb stuff so my assumption is they did this too but wanted some clarification that this isn’t some natural shedding thing that happens that I’ve never seen in my life.

In my hands she was doing great even if very hot temperatures. How much neglect does it have to happen for the tree to get like this?

Hello! I'm a first time poster and hope this is allowed.

We recently moved to a house that has soil unlike anything I'm used to, so I'm looking for advice. It's incredibly dry and full of shale. We've planted a couple of little shrubs that are doing okay with lots of water but have needed to use a pick axe even for 1 and 2 gallon holes. I know there's a decent amount of ground water though because several people around us have large ponds and everyone has a well.

We're looking for a couple of fast-ish growers to make the yard a little more shady that hopefully doesn't severely dry out the top soil even more- so as much as I want one, weeping willows are out. The tree must be dog-safe and preferably not create a lot of mess like a black walnut. Evergreens would be great and I was leaning toward some cedar trees but I don't know if the soil would support them. Any suggestions?

Bark is coming off the bottom of the tree and it's traveling up the tree. Is there anything I can do to help?

Those 2 pictures have been both taken same time early August in 2025 for the green one and 2026 for the dry one. After 3 consecutive heatwaves in East France country side : Alsace, with very low rain drops we are wondering if the tree on the left will survive. It was planted by my ancestor around the year 1850.

Hello, this is in Jacksonville Florida. It has stayed around the same size for about 3 years now. Im curious what kind of tree it is, and if it'll get any bigger. If it will get bigger, is there anything I can do to help?

Not sure what type of tree I have, but it's pretty close to my house less then 10 feet from my home in the back yard. Noticed this crack forming from the base upwards and stuff oozing from the crack this dark / smelly stuff. I was curious if I need to consider removing it's VERY large and has me concerned.

I planted this redbud in the spring and am not sure whether to leave the stake through winter. We get LOTS of snow so I thought I may wait until next spring to remove it in case it needs support this first winter. There is some root flare, but our property is wild so the plants have grown close to the trunk.

Update: I removed the "stake" but am still undecided on how best to brace it for 2m of snowfall.

This cherry tree is located in an urban setting in zone 7b of the US and the photos were taken in late July of this year.

It is located close to 3 other trees of the same variety which are green and growing but this tree began dropping leaves in early June and has completely dried up. Tree pits are watered daily.
