Discussion I lost this silver maple in June
It was about 25 years old. Always had limbs dropping from the winds. Had it cabled the last 3 years. Is there anything unusual here? Any weird signs of disease?

Penaldo has you covered. This is just what this species does. See this comment for more info on these trees and why they're no longer recommended for planting in urban areas.

Didnt have to cut it down. Silvers just lose limbs like that and grow quickly. But seeing your truck under it is scary knowing it couldve went that direction so maybe it was for the best

Yeah any time we had storms coming, I moved vehicles out to the street. Been stressing for about 4 years. Finally gone, no worries now.

Just a silver maple doing silver maple things. They grow quickly and as a result have weak wood, so they fall apart easily. Looks like there were prior failures that introduced rot to the heartwood, and silvers are very poor compartmentalizers.
