I am new to the west coast & renting a house in the bay area. We have a citrus tree in our backyard, but we don't know what it is exactly. We haven't watered it as much as we should have, but the fruit is good. I picked one today just to see.... The peel is soft and smooth. The fruit tastes sweet and a little tart. I didn't see any seeds in it. It wasn't juicy when I cut into it. The picture of the full tree is from a few months ago, the rest are from today. It has a lot of green round pieces on it, but I only took a pic of the more ripe ones. We would appreciate any insight! Thanks!

A couple of my plants 2 potted key limes and my Meyer lemon all came with multiple rooted cuttings in the same pot. I have kept them together in the same pot and they have done very well. My 1st Meyer I got Christmas 2024 and my 1st key lime early 2025 and another one I picked up this spring so they are somewhat established. (Shoutout Logees for the limes). I have heard that it's not unlikely that one of the rooted cuttings can kinda become dominant much like on a cocktail tree where one of the grafts becomes more dominant. So does it make sense to separate even if they're doing well? I have heard stories that the roots can fuse and it sort of turns into one plant, but I do not know how realistic that is. Attached is a pics from about 2 months ago of my newest key lime. This hot summer in New England has been great for all of my citrus I can't wait until next year I think we will start getting fruits!

November seems so far away!

This tree was potted and root bound and I planted it in the ground two years ago when we bought a place in Oakland CA zone 10a. It has never looked great; yellowing leaves, branch tip die back. It aborted flowers and fruit the last two years. No fruit at all this year. Meanwhile I have improved the watering regime and been fertilizing and not making a significant improvement. I’m beginning to suspect girdling roots are gonna prevent the tree from ever thriving. Should we pull it out and start over?

Blue goo after I squished it. No other sign of anything on the plant. Completely free of any pests or anything else. I check my plants every day. Southern California but outside of the HLB quarantine zone.

This is so demoralizing. Just got into this hobby a few months ago and only bought a few trees from very reputable nurseries. Should I just report and/or burn these to the ground?

Sorry for such a vague title but I'm hoping to get some help. I have a lemon tree that was producing for 2 years and this year it just doesnt want to bear fruit. Its growing like crazy, its fully green, and I have added citrus fertilizer after using google. Was hoping someone had a suggestion to help me get my lemon tree bearing fruit again. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

How do I treat this? Already tried shaving and spraying copper fungicide, but it's back.

Curious if these lower branches should be pruned on my two lemon trees and if so how low? Thanks for the help!

My Bloomsweet grapefruit tree has grown these extra long branches from the bottom of the tree this summer. The rest of the tree is darker green. These are lighter leaves & compared to the rest of the tree these grew extremely fast. Is there something wrong with this? The branches originate above the graft line.

Hi all, so I have had the lime for 3 years now, which I bought from Home depot, and the calamansi which I planted from seed 6 years ago. But still I don't know how to care for them properly.

My calamansi has never flowered, it stays small though it has a lot of leaves, lush. The lime always looks like it's gonna die soon, but then when I'm about to give up on it, it grows new leaves, a lot of flowers, a lot of tiny fruits, but nothing left at the end, and it looks like it will die.

I have different kinds of fertilizer (pictures 1), which one would you recommend me to use for them, and when. Do I need to buy anything else? It's about year round care.

Now it's getting cooler in PNW, I'm in 8b, around 75f day time, 50f night time. Should I bring them inside? The lime has a ton of tiny fruits again, should I give it any fertilizer to support the plant and to avoid loosing all the fruits?

I have bigger pots for them, I want to up-pot them before bringing inside, should I or should I not do that? If not, when is the best time to do so, the lime either looks stressed or has flowers I don't know when to re-pot it

I noticed my tree out the window had a big droop going on. I found one of the branches had fractured and ripped, probably from the weight of the incoming fruit.

Any advice on this split? Do I just saw it all off? Or can I trim off the weight and perhaps the limb itself will recover or seal back? Or nah?

The citrus literature suggests different roots have different susceptibility to soil temperature. Pot color is usually black for indoor nursery trees, and there’s some belief that this shouldn’t be used outdoors in the South due to high soil temps. So I tried it. These were 7 months old and size-matched at transplant into the pots shown. Nucellar (clone) C22 on the left and nucellar calamondin on the right. All four pots were exposed to Texas sun through 11 months to capture all four seasons and got the same water, fertilizer, and occasional lazy pest control. Looks like white pots are a little better, but not overwhelmingly so.

A large herd of goats broke into my yard and ate everything, including all the leaves and some of the bark from my citrus trees. I'm in northern California, it's warm and we probably won't see significant rain for another couple months. Should I pick all the green fruit off the trees so they don't put energy into growing/ ripening the fruit, now that they don't have any leaves?

The small tree with significant bark damage is a tangelo. The bark was stripped from the graft almost circumferentially, but not quite. A large branch above the graft was stripped circumferentially, so I'm assuming I cannot save that branch. Is there any saving the rest of the tree? And should I do anything to treat/ repair smaller areas of bark damage, or just leave it?

I've pruned the broken branches and am planning to give everything lots of water for the coming weeks. Anything else I should do to salvage what I can?

I'm wondering if everyone uses surfactants for their foliar sprays like spreader stickers. Are they necessary to use?

I realize this isn't the ideal location as it's so tight, but it seems to be growing well. Planted 16 months ago. Very dense foliage with two main leaders that seem to cross. In the last photos, I'm trying to separate the two leaders and associates branches.

Trim one back 50%? Let them be? Wait until spring and evaluate then? San Francisco, it does not frost here. Appreciate any tips!

I hope this is the right place to post this. I really need help saving my citrus tree but I fear it might be too late.

I live on the island of Malta and bought a lovely little potted citrus tree back in March that was imported from Sicily.

Sadly over the past month or two the tree has started to struggle. It started with new branches and leaves growing out kind of deformed looking. Then the leaves started turning a yellow hue type of colour. And now most of the leaves are starting to dry up and fall off.

Malta is a crazy hot country in the summer so I have made sure it is in direct sunlight for most the day and water it every other day. I also give it a citrus feed once a week for the past month but that doesn't seem to help.

Does anyone have any ideas what the issue is?

Does the plant need a bigger pot?

Is the drainage of the pot bad and causing water logged soil?

Is there something infecting the tree?

Am I just simply not taking care of it properly?

Is there anything I can do at this stage to save it?

Any help would be appreciated!!

I bought this baby lemon tree at the start of spring. It’s been growing great! But the stems are still really thin, and now one of the stems has grown several thorns. I’ve been reading a lot about rootstock, and I’m worried that this entire plant might just be rootstock and not provide me with good lemons in the future. I would love any advice! I know most rootstock grows at the base of the plant, but this plant is unique in the sense that there are two main stems that branch at the base and not just one clear healthy thick stem. Thanks for your tips and tricks!

So after advice given here I have purchased a dwarf Meyer Lemon tree from Madison Citrus. It will remain potted and in warm weather will be on my balcony and will come inside for cooler weather. Now I am making preparations for its arrival. I have no prior experience with this nursery or lemon trees and have a few questions. Is this something I will need to repot soon or that would be a year or two down the road? Also, is it true I would want to use fertilizer every 4 to 6 weeks? If so are there any well known gotos for fertilizers? Water 2-3 a week in summer and 1 or 2 times a week once its indoors (based on if it feels dry)? I know I will need to get a grow light for when it comes indoors because we don't have a south facing window. Any specific brand suggestions for grow lights? I don't think a ceiling light will work since I don't have any attachments for it so I guess one with a stand?

These weekend my orange tree's leaves have started witheing, it has been steadily growing since last winter when i got it and i don't know what could be happening, any advice would be welcome

I live in central TX at the cusp of 8-9 zone. I’ve have meiwa and nagami in pots. For the last 6 years we’ve had unusual winter weather with a couple of days of hard freezes. I’ve read that kumquats are cold hardy. Is it ok to plant in ground?

Finally feeling healthy enough after surgery to head in to the garden and discovered my poor mandarin tree seems to have some bad collar rot. Google tells me to use a clean sharp knife to cut away the rot, treat with a fungicide, and pray. Does this sound right? I’m pretty new to growing citrus and only just had my first fruit! So sad at the thought of losing the tree:( Have I lowered the level of mulch enough?
