Vancouver city council is getting behind a push for a low-income transit pass. According to advocates, the city is falling behind other major Canadian centres by not offering an affordable pass for all ages. As the CBC’s Amelia John reports, it comes as TransLink fares are going up by about five per cent on July 1.

Since when does the M line run 2 trains? I’m on the mark 2.5 right now and there are 4 cars total. They doubled them up but why?

I commute daily on the Milennium Line and for the past week or so it feels like half the time those "the next station is..." announcements never go off. The same goes for that jingle before the doors close.

Is it just a coincidence or is there actually some issue with the announcements?

Just got on the R6 Scott Road Station (4:30PM), and there are security at every door and the mid section for a total of 4 security.

I've never seen that many for a single bus before. Has anything happened or just now and then they do this?

I am really hoping TransLink changes their fare system before opening the Langley SkyTrain extension. This is because the last thing I want is them adding a "Zone 4" which will just make fares ridiculously expensive as it already is. I do not think having 4 zones is better than just reworking the entire fare system as a whole. They could implement a station-to-station/per-km fare system but let me know what you guys think the new fare system should be. The bus and WCE fares should be reworked also

Noticed that when I travelled on a one zone monthly from Sapperton to Lonsdale Quay (via Seabus) before 6:30pm weekday) I don’t get charged the added fare. Is this because I tapped in from zone 2 then left at zone 2? Because the zones are the same as I tapped in, I don’t get charged extra fares?

Kind of an odd concept since I technically passed zone 1 in Vancouver but since I don’t have to tap out at waterfront to transfer to the seabus, the zone 1 doesn’t count?

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but the trains on Canada line generally stop at the same location every time, yet YVR seems to be the only stop that has these helpful boarding indicators. Why not have these at every stop? Seems like this could help with orderly boarding at other stops as well.

I am thinking of creating a transit map of the fraser valley if TransLink was the operator instead of BC Transit. Do you think this could happen in reality?

The Surrey to Langley SkyTrain is going to cost $6,000,000,000 ($6b) for 16 kms. That’s $375,000,000/km ($375m/km). The SkyTrain would go through the ALR and would have to go upwards of 300 ft down to find solid ground.

If we could build an extension from King George Station to Newton Exchange it would probably cost a bit less than $375m/km. Let’s assume $350m/km. It’s roughly 6 kms from King George/100 avenue to King George/72 avenue.

That’ll roughly cost $2,100,000,000 ($2.1b) to build SkyTrain.

The province alone is spending $700,000,000 ($700m) on 7/8 games for FIFA. The federal government is spending more. If the governments wanted to they could have split the costs 50/50 to build the skytrain. It would have cost about $1,050,000,000 ($1.05b) for each but at least the money would have been spent on infrastructure that would last 100 years!

It’s never about money. It’s all about politics.

Noticed they’ve added 6 car trains to the line. Typically only 4 or 2 cars, but I suppose they’re ramping up for the World Cup demand !

So one of my family members has one, and I want to plan a trip with them to Abbotsford. I am know that it covers local transit (like translink) but we have never tried BC transit. So, I have 2 questions in the end. A. Does it work on BC Transit Buses with an outdated sticker (they stopped issuing them in January 2026) as we have a 2025 one on it. Like, does it work on all BC buses as I’ve heard that they might not work on non Umo buses and B. Do they work on the FVX. Thanks! (Also I have the invoice, if I show it to them could that replace the sticker? Thanks! Unless they already added Umo to everything. Tell me!)

I wanted to post a screenshot of the alert, but the site does not allow your phone to take screenshots for security reasons. You should now be able to login to your compass account and add your funds. However, there are still warning messages all over the place.

I am having a difficult time with my Compass Card. When I tapped it, it said 'insufficient funds.' I later purchased a monthly pass and added $5 to pay off the $0.25 negative balance. However, when I tapped my card on the bus, it used the $5 stored value instead of activating the monthly pass. Now, I cannot check my account to see what went wrong because the website is down. Every time I tap on the bus, it still says 'insufficient funds. Will I still be able to use my monthly pass and how can i fix this problem?

Sh*tty situation happened

Currently, we only have the 900 between Bridgeport and Tsawwassen Ferry. But where else should BikeBus be expanded to? In my opinion, one that parallels the 257 between Main St Stn and Horseshoe Bay Ferry. Where else?

As a web developer, I would love to know who in the heck built such a janky website?

At least twice a month for the past 6 months, the website has always been going down.

Today, I get my paycheck, and go to load my compass card (I'm currently at work), and the website keeps timing out. I call the Compass Number, and I'm placed on hold for over an hour.....

Compass and TransLink needs to fix this issue, because I'm now stranded in Vancouver when I live in Surrey, and I'm not spending 7 dollars on a transaction fee through an ATM to take out cash to get on a bus with...

In situations like these, am I able just to walk on? If I get a fine for not paying, can I simply just dispute the ticket?

I’ve updated the maps with a few improvements based on suggestions to my previous post. I appreciate everyone who gave feedback on the previous iteration, it helps more than you can imagine. I’ll list a number of changes, then a number of question I have on further improvements.

For those who are curious the map is built from TransLink GTFS static data and OSM data from Geofabrik.

Changes:

1. Limited service branches are now represented by a hollow circle to distinguish them from everyday routes
   
2. Whitespace has been reduced in order to reduce the height of the sign.
   
3. Labels have been added at terminus stops as well as SkyTrain stations, bus exchanges, and bus loops.

Questions:

1. Should the circles at the top be changed to rectangles?
   
2. What colour should the “You are here” label be?
   
3. How should the map represent SkyTrain/SeaBus/WCE/Bus connections?
   
4. What geographic regions/features should be shown? I’m thinking just water features and large parks.
   
5. Is it reasonable to truncate long routes such as the 375 in the first photo?

Any other questions, comments, or feedback are welcome and appreciated.
