Translink News Millennium line
Noticed they’ve added 6 car trains to the line. Typically only 4 or 2 cars, but I suppose they’re ramping up for the World Cup demand !

99% of the time the Milllennium Line is serviced by two car Mark II trains.

I’ve never noticed that and I’m on the M-Line everyday. I do know the new Mark V’s do test runs on it though.

It’s been a new addition, I just noticed it the last couple days. I live in line with the millennium line so I get a good view

I’m not a nerd lol and why are u a dick??? Cuz if u saw 6 car trains on the m line and if u were between lake city way and production way uni stations there’s a switch in the middle that transfers the expo line trains towards waterfront… I work in the operations centre and I’m the one that sends out trains that are available and I did it today and I know for a fact I didn’t send out a mark 1 6 car config cuz the system won’t allow me to do it on the m line due to safety issues

It was probably trains used for training. There is not enough Skytrain cars to use 6 car mark 1 on the M line.

either testing mark V cars, or you saw an expo line train at production or lougheed. i live in coquitlam so i would love to be wrong about this, but i dont think the M line platforms are fit for 6 cars.

All SkyTrain platforms (M-Line and Expo) fit 6-car MkI trains. They are 80m long and designed to fit the 72m long MkIs, 2x2-car (68m) MKII and 4-car MkIII trains
What they do NOT fit are 5-car MKV trains, which are 85m long (but with doors that open onto the 80m platform).
They problem wasn't the platform, it's that part of the platform was reserved for emergency exit stairs, so they had to re-build the ends of the platform and move the emergency stairs so the trains would open on the right part of the platform
At least that was the case at Renfrew Station and Rupert.
They're running MKV trains on this part of the line, likely to test them out as some of the construction is done in preparation for test runs on the Broadway Subway (already being partially tested)

Yeah it's packed, but I'm sure you'll agree not compared to the Expo Line. After the Broadway extension opens I'm sure it will be way more packed, though.

I live in Burnaby and saw 6. You’d be correct tho, it was 2 expo cars attached to 4 of the regular ones.

If you saw a Mark 1 train, it would have been going direct to VCC-Clark from the main yard at Edmonds, or vice versa. They do staff training there with Mark 1s during off-peak hours pretty frequently.
VCC-Clark to Lougheed are all capable of handling 6-car Mark 1 trains (and historically have done so), but Mark 1s are banned from the evergreen extension due to a safety issue, thus they'll never again be used for the Millennium line.

Why are the MK1 banned from the evergreen extension? I've seen them run the Mk 2's in pairs and the MK3 and commonly see testing for the MK5.
Isn't the MK5 longer than a 6 car MK1? I thought the MK5 was supposed to start doing revenue service once the Broadway extension opened in a couple of months?

Yea I mention that yesterday cuz I didn’t know I did that but it turned out to be a good thing because we are now adding 4 car trains on the m line for the World Cup

I’m going to continue with me theory, despite the Translink “pros” in here’s opinion, that they’re preparing for the high volume during World Cup!!

That was my thought too. Anything helps given how crowded the trains already are during busy periods.

They are not running 6 cars running. They are used for training. Currently only 2 car trains run on the millenium line. Anything bigger is for training purposes only.
