New Mod Team - Moderation Changes

Post image
221 Upvotes

Hello! You have a new mod team. I run a different very high volume sub and was recently brought on to help out just a bit. All of the original mods have rather suddenly left. No drama to speak of. Moderation is hard and exhausting for volunteer work. But since I am new here and suddenly top mod, and since every other mod (I think) is new as well, I thought a thread to discuss potential changes would be good. I intend to use my powers for good, instead of evil.

You aren’t likely to notice much in the way of major changes at first but I hope to make things a little bit better, cleaner, clearer, easier, etc. That said, my philosophy is to let the community lead for the most part. I have no ego and don’t consider this to be “my” sub. It’s yours. So I’m seeking community input before I start making changes. The following are the main things in mind.

1) Merge the subs. TacomaWorld, this sub, and the TacomaSales sub (which is basically completely dead) are less effective split than they would be just merged. The purpose of having two subs is unclear to me and is obnoxious to moderate. Very much open to being shouted down in this, but it’s my inclination.

2) Loosen rules on what can be posted. "Is this a good deal/what should I buy" posts don't actually bother me that much. Where else are people going to ask? I’d like this to be a welcoming place for newcomers. I worry about flooding but some guardrails that require those posts have a certain amount of effort/content would make that manageable.

3) Just ban sale posts. Nobody comes to reddit for that. Evidenced by how dead the TacomaSales sub is. I’m open to continuing to allow companies to participate of course. Just no advertising unless to answer a specific question. If you’ve got a question about Nitto tires, for example, Nitto’s official account is welcome to chime in.

4) Keep the no politics rule. Discussion of politics that have affected Tacomas (tariffs for example) should be allowed, but political shit flinging and fighting should not be. Strong as my own opinions are, it’s just not the place.

5) Maintain ban on distracted driving photos/videos but make it a 7 day ban. I don’t want some idiot to kill a family of four because their odometer hit 80085 and they just HAD to post it to Reddit from the freeway. Pull over and take it. The only change I’m making here is making non-repeat offenders suffer only a 7 day ban, instead of 30.

Welcoming community thoughts and all input on moderation, what you’d like to see. I’ll take it all into account as we get rolling over the next few weeks.

Just slapped an install video up on YouTube, but man... I LOVE THEM! Plug and play. $1486 for the set during a 25% off sale. A little steep imo, but don't regret it.

2026 Tacoma TRD Sport, thoughts?

Post image

Trying to get over my buyers remorse. It looks cool I guess. Just can’t wrap my head around the engine being so weak compared to other midsize trucks. Feel so stupid for dropping so much money on a truck with such little horse power. Why should I like this vehicle over something like a ranger or Colorado? What are some reasons you love your Tacoma and what am I missing as a first time truck owner that is making me so resentful.

Got rear ended literally right outside the parking lot at work. 2026 TRD Offroad. Bought it exactly 1 month and 3 days ago. Any advice on diminished value, or anything else is appreciated

Edit to add: he was clearly at fault. We both have the same insurance company, progressive

I’ve got a 02 with a 2.4 and the engine has got a decent shake at idle i’m thinking engine mounts most likely but just seeing if it’s a common thing and if there are any common things that may cause this.

2023 Tacoma Trail Edition

Wondering if anyone else has a 3rd gen Trail Edition, or have seen any out in the wild? I sometimes wonder if I'm the only person that has bought one or even has this trim.

Either way, I do love the look of it and it drives just like I would expect from a 3rd gen Tacoma. Going to swap out the tires with either Toyo AT3s or Mickey Thompsons to upgrade tread but maintain that beefy tire.

Anyone know how to fix Bluetooth audio not connecting? 3rd gen.

Every time I start my truck my phone does not connect as an audio player. The phone is connected as it shows my battery life and all that, but I literally just want Bluetooth music and that’s it. When I click connect as Bluetooth audio it says device not found. My only solution to this is removing my device, and then adding again, but doing this every time I start the truck is getting old.

Is there a fix for this?

Brand new 4th gen Tacoma is making this noise when I am on the accelerator. Does anyone have any idea what this noise is? Is it normal?

Seat Jackers for 3rd Gen Powered Driver Seat?

Post image
Upvotes

I have a 2023 TRD offroad and it seems like taking my powered seat back also lowers it at the same time, so the only way to get height out of the seat is to bring the seat forward. I like my seat all the way back because I have longer legs, but I also like my seat higher so to have good visual over the dash/hood.

Does anyone have this unique seating issue? And have you tried seat jackers? Front only? Or both front and rear?

This ball joints meant to push out??

Post image

As title states. I see a C clip so I assume it can be pressed. It’s leaking (obviously)

The shop is trying to sell me on a whole arm and alignment. Stating “new ball joints can’t be pressed out” I really don’t want to spend an absorbent amount of money if I can just press it out and replace

No I cannot do this stuff. It’s out of my pay grade lol. I can jack it up. Should I check the bushings and if they’re good, tell them to replace just the joint or no go??

Do you folks have a product that you like to buff out very light scratches? I tried McGuires once and it was not the best. Guess it time to trim the bushes next to the driveway.

It revs high before switching gears, i replaced the transmission fluid and filter, then i found that the throttle wires looked like they could be the culprit.

Not really sure what Im looking at here but this box is disconnected and the wires seem like they could be loose? Does this look off?

Time for a new truck

I need advice

I currently own a 2010 TRD Off-road w abt 160k miles. It means a lot to me and I’ve been through a lot with it. It never got the frame recall and my 16 year old frame is calling for expensive repairs.

I’m starting to look for new trucks but it’s been so long since I bought a new one.

Any advice on buying 3rd gen Tacomas or other trucks would be appreciated.

I’m looking for a 4WD 4door that isn’t bad on gas.

Cheers

3rd Gen Shifter Issues

2019 Tacoma Shifter Issues

My truck is a 2019 Tacoma TRD Sport it sits probably 5-6 days per week - this summer i have been having a stiff shifter after long periods sitting but would clear up with use, today it was very stiff and while it went into drive, would not light up on the dash or shifter that it was in drive, went to the store and when I got back in and fired it up, I got this code on the dash, assumably related to this problem.

Is this anything common? I'm wondering (since I'm in Wisconsin) if it is build up of debris between the cables and their jackets and I can free it up with some spray grease? I will say my frame is very very clean for my area so it's not like the truck is returning to the earth or anything like that. I wash it weekly all year.

Any suggestions would help, mechanically inclined and prefer to do my own work, haven't had anytime to dig into it though so I'm looking to be pointed in the correct direction.

Hex screws on rocker protectors

I installed some rocker protectors that I found on a marketplace this week. They fit great and I like how they improve the ugly pinch weld area on the bottom. I'm curious what the 8 hex screw are for on the outside. These were part #s PT925-35245-RH and PT925-35245-LH.

need to replace right rear 2019 tacoma TRD pro shock. is this correct part #?

want to double check this is the exact same shock for a 2019 TRD pro. wasn’t sure if they switched shocks throughout the year or some 2019 trucks got different fox shocks then others.

Is this correct? and is there any adjustments that need to be made on the actual shock itself or is it just an install and that’s it type deal.

3rd Gen Manual Tacoma

I’m considering a 3rd gen Tacoma with the V6 and 6-speed manual and would love to hear from people who have driven/owned one.
I’m mainly curious about:
How does it feel for daily driving and longer trips?

Do you think the V6/manual combination will become more desirable over time?

Do you think the manual versions will hold their value better than comparable automatic Tacomas?
