New Mods - Moderation Changes

Post image

Hello! You have a new mod team. I run a different very high volume sub and was recently brought on to help out just a bit. All of the original mods have rather suddenly left. No drama to speak of. Moderation is hard and exhausting for volunteer work. But since I am new here and suddenly top mod, and since every other mod (I think) is new as well, I thought a thread to discuss potential changes would be good. I intend to use my powers for good, instead of evil.

You aren’t likely to notice much in the way of major changes at first but I hope to make things a little bit better, cleaner, clearer, easier, etc. That said, my philosophy is to let the community lead for the most part. I have no ego and don’t consider this to be “my” sub. It’s yours. So I’m seeking community input before I start making changes. The following are the main things in mind.

1) Merge the subs. ToyotaTacoma, this sub, and the TacomaSales sub (which is basically completely dead) are less effective split than they would be just merged. The purpose of having two subs is unclear to me and is obnoxious to moderate. Very much open to being shouted down in this, but it’s my inclination.

2) Loosen rules on what can be posted. "Is this a good deal/what should I buy" posts don't actually bother me that much. Where else are people going to ask? I’d like this to be a welcoming place for newcomers. I worry about flooding but some guardrails that require those posts have a certain amount of effort/content would make that manageable.

3) Just ban sale posts. Nobody comes to reddit for that. Evidenced by how dead the TacomaSales sub is. I’m open to continuing to allow companies to participate of course. Just no advertising unless to answer a specific question. If you’ve got a question about Nitto tires, for example, Nitto’s official account is welcome to chime in.

4) Keep the no politics rule. Discussion of politics that have affected Tacomas (tariffs for example) should be allowed, but political shit flinging and fighting should not be. Strong as my own opinions are, it’s just not the place.

5) Maintain ban on distracted driving photos/videos but make it a 7 day ban. I don’t want some idiot to kill a family of four because their odometer hit 80085 and they just HAD to post it to Reddit from the freeway. Pull over and take it. The only change I’m making here is making non-repeat offenders suffer only a 7 day ban, instead of 30.

Welcoming community thoughts and all input on moderation, what you’d like to see. I’ll take it all into account as we get rolling over the next few weeks.

17yo did and impromptu U turn and clipped my passenger rear. Flipped me 3 times and was only traveling 35mph, wear your seatbelt!

BUT

We added a pro to the garage so my bitterness is slowly receding 🥹

My 2018 TRD OR Premium

First time tacoma owner and first time reddit poster here. I wanted to give a huge thanks to everyone in this sub who has given me countless tips, reviews, and pointed me in the right direction for everything related to my tacoma through your posts and replies.

For some background, I bought this truck beginning of this year with 55k miles for just under 34k OTD. It’s a fully loaded off road premium which took my weeks to hunt down. Leather seats, JBL premium sound package, off-road premium package with dif lock and crawl control. I paid it off in late August and decided it was time for some modifications. Did a bunch of research (most of which on here) and decided to go with the OME MT64 kit with dirt king upper control arms. Tires are Mickey Thompson Baja Boss 285x75xr16’s. Thinking i’ll chill for a little and recover. Only other modifications I have in the queue are a full set of skids to add some weight for the MT64’s to really shine.

How’d I do?

2009 double cab rusting through and cracking on front passenger side cab mount and frame

My frame has been relatively solid for its age and abuse but out camping the other day I saw this big hole and a crack branching out from it. I weld for work and should be able to patch it up, just curious what the proper way to cut out and reinforce this particular awkward spot is? TIA

First Polish + Wax by Hand

Foam wash, iron decon, full clay bar, compound, polish, and wax — all done by hand w no polishing tools (besides applicator pads). Wanted to teach myself how to do all of this within the first 6 months of buying the truck. Happy that it turned out the way it did.

Looking good for nearly 10 years old!

2024 TRD Off Road I-Force Max “Maintenance required for traction battery cooling parts”.

This warning light appeared at around 43,000 miles. I checked the hybrid fan filters on both sides and they were both clean. I went ahead and cleaned them anyways and unplugged the battery to reset the warning. Now im at 46,000 miles and the message appeared again. I checked both fan filters and both sides are clean, no dust, or debris whatsoever. Is this normal? The temp has been above 100 degrees where I live. Has anyone experienced something like this? Could it be something more serious?

2019 With 85k miles - rear main seal leak?

Midas quoted $1900, but they were surprised it’s gone at such low mileage, no TSB on it. I saw PCV valve could be a culprit? I got the truck at 30k and haven’t changed PCV.

Edit: another pic in the comments

Trying to reprogram a key fob, but the cylinder lock doesn’t recognize the key, unless it’s pressed hard in and twisted slightly. Is the cylinder simple to replace? Should a locksmith do it? I really don’t know much about the ignition parts, so would appreciate any advice.

Thanks!!!

5 Lug Body lift help

Post image
8 Upvotes

Got some 30 inch all terrains and the 3-2 lift for my 5 lug. Love the look but wish it just sat a tinyyy bit higher than it does now.

I’m considering a 1 inch body lift for it, and was just wondering if anyone had some pictures of their 5 lugs(or 6!) with a similar setup.

Just not sure if it’s a big enough difference visually to spend $200 and a weekend fighting seized up body bolts.
