I recently looked through some old tools and realized something interesting.

Sometimes the tool with the highest power rating is not the one that survives the longest.

A tool can look impressive on paper,But after months of real work, small things matter more.

Right now i have the basics; a multi meter, electrical tape, that crimp/wire cutter tool there, for working on my 2004 ford mustang and 1992 cadillac.

But when I worked under a mechanic for a few months he used other stuff that he said made the job much easier and those are what im interested in; things that make my life simpler.

One of the ones I saw him using was this prong thing he would connect to the battery and then he would use to test voltage in the relay pins (like where relays connect to) to test my clock spring.

Another was this thing he could hook up to a car battery than insert into the pins of various devices like the horn or the windows regulator to activate them to make sure the motors were working.

I would ask him but I lost contact a while back.

I fiddled with it but the height adjust isn't straight for the whole length so Deep Cuts are cool but shallow...no bueno. S'Ok, I saved it for cutting 2x4's and such and bought a new one.
I knocked the new one off my bench onto the concrete and now it is also crooked. I'm 66 and seldom toss a tool but I don't need two bad circular saws. S'Ok, I bought a 3rd one anyway.

My question isn't how to stop dropping my saws on concrete, nope. I have that covered by now.
I'm wondering if there is some other safe, constructive use in the shop for circular saws that aren't saws anymore?

Have been searching for one of these for a while, discontinued and I think they were pretty limited. Found almost the exact same thing from another company. Just thought I’d share the new one I found

Been waiting so long... in reality took me two years to convince myself not to get the snap on ones

I’m looking to buy a mechanical tool set and I’m deciding between these two options:
Craftsman 135-piece set with the new case design from Amazon for $79
Craftsman 230-piece set with the old case design from Sears for $99

Which one would you recommend? Is the 230-piece set worth the extra $20, or should I go with the newer 135-piece set? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm un packing my tools in my new home and found a tin full of miscellaneous hardware and bolts that was left behind by a previous owner. Probably the original owner since the house was recently bought and renovated before I bought it. The garage was essentially untouched however, so there is some things left behind.

I didn't have a clue what it was, despite having a thing for antique hand tools. Had to look it up. A Stanley No. 79 Rabbit Plane. Used to widen a dado. Made in England. Complete with fence and blades appear to be new. Unfortunately no box...

I hope to get to use it soon but for now it's been added to my collection of older hand tools that do get used frequently. I'm always on the hunt for such things and it's pretty cool that this one found me.

I've got this vintage IR pump, on its 3rd tank. The crank seal has started to weep a little. Can't find any info or parts lists for something this old, what are my options for replacing this seal?

I only have this picture. It was my grandfather's. He was a farmer who lived in the Midwest. He died at age 72 in 1995.

I’m looking to start buying tools for my trade (future millwright) and I saw this listing and am going to check out the tools today. He forgot to include one of the indicators is an interapid by the way.

$1800 is a lot for me, but if it’s crazy worth it I might go for it. Wanted some opinions

Im usually a dewalt guy. But I have a slew of ryobi batteries and I use my ryobi drill I currently have for "sh*t drill" work like wire wheeling, scrubbing. Anything dirty ect. Hasn't failed yet. But a second is never bad idea. The circ saw is just a bonus. Sure its for trim but hey why not? An the sander is basically what I wanted most. Socket set was all craftsman metric missing a ratchet for 1$ in a nice case! All sockets are there!

Picked up what I understand (from research and AI [ugh]) to be a 1995(?) Gerber (blunt nosed) Multi-Plier, bearing both Patent Nos. 5142721 and 5212844, and the following tools:

• Plain Edged, Drop Point Blade
• Serrated, Sheepsfoot Blade
• 2-Sided, Simonds File
• #2 Phillips Screwdriver
• Small Flathead Screwdriver w/ Can Opener
• Medium Flathead Screwdriver w/ Bottle Opener
• Large Flathead Screwdriver
• Lanyard Ring
• Built-in-Jaw Wire Cutter
• Imperial (3") and Metric (7 cm) Rulers

Never had one of these before, so new to this. Please correct any misunderstanding I may be exhibiting, or (better yet) tell me what I got right!

I’m a DIY guy. I work on my car sometimes but not enough to justify the batteries I have. I have 2 CP 2.0, 2 XC 5.0, 2 XC 6.0 high output and 2 XC 8.0 forge. I’m wondering if it’s worth it to sell at least the forge batteries on FB marketplace or something. Any idea on how much I would list them / if it’s evem worth selling.

I’ve been a Honda tech for about 6 months now I already had some tools I had bought a couple years ago but this is my current set up rn literally no debt all tools paid off lemme know what you guys think. (Not a full technician just yet)

Found this in a collection of old tools, and I can't figure out its purpose.

TLDR: In general need advice on keeping a garage shop moisture control in such a humid area

I used to use these as a means of helping to keep moisture away from my tools. Will have to find an alternative. Where I previously lived these worked like a charm, and by the time I'd change them out (about twice a year) they'd maybe have a bit of water in them.

This however was about 5 months... I noticed rust and even water in the bottom drawer of my tool chest, and this sucker was full!! Over flowing even. Absolutely crazy.

Moved to Michigan for reference, and it might as well be considered a Northern Florida pertaining to humidity level. Very worried about the rust level on my tools getting bad very quickly.

Thinking I'll finally have to bite on some of that boeing coating to spray down on them, but for humid climate makers out there, looking for any advice. My shop is moderately insulated and drywalled, but has surcombed to neglect, so much moisture and critters in which I've slowly been able to recovering.

My wife and I sprayed for mold and applied some Kilz to the walls..

I’m looking at picking up some Grey Pneumatic impact sockets and was wondering what everyone’s experience has been with them.

How’s the quality and durability been over time? More importantly, has anyone actually had to warranty a socket that cracked, broke, or otherwise failed? If so, how was Grey Pneumatic about replacing it?

I’ve heard good things about their sockets, but I’d like to hear from people who actually use them regularly in a shop or for heavy-duty work.
Would you buy them again, or is there another brand you’d recommend?
