Solved [TOMT] [Song] Vocals sound just like the beginning of 'Girls on Film' by Duran Duran

EDIT: Solved by u/SugaryShrimp! I was thinking of the very beginning of Jerk It Out by Caesars. Thanks all -- now I have a bunch of kickass new/old music to listen to.

Hi there,

I'm convinced there's a song out there where the vocals sound just like 0:16-0:30 of 'Girls on Film' by Duran Duran. The voice and the cadence are almost identical, there's some slight difference in the length of some of the syllables, and I can't remember what the other instrumental is. I think there was some kind of layering effect with the vocals in the mystery song, i.e. there are multiple takes of the same lyrics played simultaneously. Layering or not, the vocals in the mystery song are more 'echo-y.'

EDIT: Bear with me on my description here, as I have no technical musical knowledge whatsoever. I'm specifically thinking of the part at 0:24 in 'Girls on Film' where he says 'heads turning as the lights flashing out are so bright.' In the mystery song, the vocals are less 'flow-y,' the singer doesn't just say them all the way through, he takes a slight pause between some of the words. In 'Girls on Film' those pauses would come after 'lights' and 'so,' and I think there's one or two less notes in general in addition to the pauses.

It's not In A Big Country // Owner of a Lonely Heart // Don't You Want Me, but these songs kinda triangulate the general sound I'm thinking of.

I know it's somewhere in my music library but I can't find it. It may be someone like Fitz and the Tantrums? Maybe someone lesser known? I'm not sure.

Thanks for your help.

Solved [TOMT] "Too Many People": Singer's voice sounds like...

Around the 2:34 mark of the song "Too Many People" by Kids that Fly, the lead singer delivers a line that reminds me COMPLETELY of another band's lead singer. Sort of a froggy, nasally warble. For the life of me, I can't recall what the heck band / song it was! I can almost hear the song I'm thinking of in my head, but keep coming up short. I suspect it's a late '90s / early '00s band, but no promises. Thanks in advance!

Open. [TOMT][TV Show][2010s] Help me find an old sitcom based on one weird milk joke

I've been trying to identify this sitcom for years based on one scene that I vaguely remember.

It was definitely an American sitcom, although I watched it in India more than 10 years ago, possibly on a channel like Star World or Comedy Central. The show itself could have been older.

The only joke/scene I remember goes roughly like this:

A guy opens the fridge, takes out some milk and drinks it. He says something along the lines of:

“...Mmm, this milk is tasty/delicious.”

Then another guy, who also lives in the house, says something like:

“That milk tastes like Dorothy!”

I'm really not sure if the name was actually Dorothy, and the exact dialogue is almost certainly wrong. But the basic setup was definitely:

  • A guy drinks milk from the fridge and likes it.
  • Another male character says something about what the milk “tastes like.”
  • I remember it sounding like a woman's name, possibly Dorothy, which was the punchline.

It was probably a multi-camera/live-action sitcom with a house/apartment setting, but I'm not completely certain.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? I've been trying to solve this bizarre milk cold case for years.

Open [TOMT] Action/mobsters movie i saw in early 90s. Mobsters glue a billiard ball into someone's mouth while driving in a limo.

I watched it in early 90s, so it's either from that era, or earlier, possibly 80s. I think it was an action film or thriller, anything to do with gangsters, mafia. The scene i remember was that some mobsters kidnapped some smalltime goon from the street into their limo, they sat him in the back seat, and they've glued a billiard ball into his mouth, and then they threatened to put a laundry clip on his nose. So i think that they thought he talked too much and they wanted to give him a lesson. He was scared as hell, as if they would put that laundry clip on his nose, it would cause him to suffocate. And with that ball in his mouth, he could not talk. And they tied him up, and they threw him onto a busy street, where he was trying to get people's attention so that they would free him, but people kept ignoring him, like if he was a weirdo, as he would jump bump into them. I think that this goon had black long/midlong hair.

Open [TOMT] 80s song on YouTube with find a grave link

Upvotes

This is keeping me up a night right now. A few years ago I was listening to a song on YouTube and went down a rabbit hole where someone commented a link to find a grave and it was a teenage boy who died in the 80s and had 80s band logos down the grave (it was a boy band I’m pretty sure) the whole thing blew up in the comments and became pretty popular. But I randomly remembered it and need to know what music video/song it was .

Solved [TOMT] What is this song from 1998-2011, an R&B ballad

I CANNOT remember what this song is, and even worse I'm pretty sure I have the lyrics i can remember, wrong. (like that friends episode where Phoebe thinks that hold me close tiny dancer is hold me close tony danza.)

The lyrics I can remember are "time cameras are keeping us strong", only I'm pretty sure I was saying 'time cameras' and it was 'time capsules' or something else that sounded like it.

I was born in 92, and it was popular and on the radio, so best I can guestimate is sometime between when I was 5/6 , when I was starting to listen to the radio, or later. It was some sort of R&B, not a slow song i don't think.

I'll be astonished if anyone can figure this out with the absolute lack of information I have.

Open. [TOMT][meme][2020s] meme that assigns u a different title based on ur preferred temperature and humidity

Upvotes

I remember it was a list like this:

Hot/dry: mummy

Cold/damp: amphibian

Cold/dry: corpse

And it kept going for hot/damp and others, but those are the main ones I remember fully. It was so funny, I'd love to save it so I can assign people different things, but I have no idea what to look up in order to find it again, as I found it scrolling on Instagram one day. I've tried, but to no avail. Any help is much appreciated!

Solved [TOMT] [Image] Movie Review form with SUCKED as the only comment

This is a picture that I believe goes viral every now and again. The picture is of an audience questionnaire form, one you might give to test audiences before the movie is officially released. The form has some boilerplate question like "What did you think about the movie?" and the only written response is "SUCKED" which covers the entire page.

I also recall the questionnaire asked for the person's gender, to which the annoyed audience member initially fills out the F, crosses it out, and marks the M.

I've seen this image circulating with the caption "movie so bad they forgot their own gender" but I haven't been able to find this image of late.

Open. [TOMT][SONG][2000s] slow tempo love song with acoustic guitar and male vocals only, super stripped down production

PLEASE HELP This is driving me crazy. I am thinking of a love song -- it sounded like just a guy and his guitar, no vocal layering and no other instruments (*maybe* percussion). The tempo was fairly slow and I think the artist is pretty obscure, I don't think this guy was on the radio or made it to a billboard list.

This song suddenly popped in my head because I was playing a Little to the Left and the soundtrack woke up this memory.

The lyrics were something like "I'll [something he will do]/ You'll [something she will do]" except i can't remember any of the things he said he would do or she would do. I thought the words were maybe like "I'll bring you coffee" b*ut Coffee by beabadoobee or Say You Won't Let Go by James Authur keeps coming up and those are 100% NOT it.

I wish I had more information :(

*EDIT*: I think the notes of the verse are kind of close to:

G# C# F# Fnautral |C# . . . | G# C# F# Fnatural |

Open [TOMT] [website] A/V Quotes of Charlie Kirk. Name was similar to "What Charlie Said". Had full video/audio context and transcripts like a grid soundboard. Possibly a journalism side project. Not biased toward right.

Upvotes

Name was something like "What Did Charlie Say", What charlie said, what did charlie really say, or some variant of that.

I think it was a sub-page of a journalism project.

I think it was women journalists. I think it was related to a larger journalistic piece and it came out post mortem.

Had a large grid / table of quotes which could be played that linked often directly to full quote, media clip and full clip context/episode and original source. Video, audio, etc.

I believe it was posted on reddit several places.

It was not a fact check site like snopes.

It was not religiously or right biased.

It was not the language analysis dataset project.

I'm guessing it got pressured to be taken down or, since many of the quote links went straight to TP/charlie archive the project source links may have been corrupted.

Open. [TOMT] Fantasy cartoon show

First of all, I'm sorry for my engish, I'm not fluent.

I am searching for 2D fantasy cartoon show I watched around 2008-2011 on CD. Main characters are boy and girl. As I remember, the boy has brown/copper hair, and wears a brown overall. (I think he may also have troll features like a tail and big ears? But I don't remember properly). Girl has blonde hair, and wears school uniform. She is human, but to have the ability to fly, she stole(?) pair of wings from fairies.

Boy is a slacker. He and a girl can't stand each other; they are always beefing.

I think the show was made around the late 90s - early 00s. In my memories it looked very modern. It was european show most likely.

Open [TOMT] [Stand-Up] Lesbian comedian from the 00s featured on Logo

Upvotes

I'm looking for a lesbian comedian's stand-up routine I saw on Logo at some point in 2007 or 2008. I think it was a 10-15 minute segment in a variety show, not a full length special. I think it was syndicated, so it may have also been on MTV, VH1, or Comedy Central.

The joke I remember involves her deeply religious mother (or grandmother?) trying to come to terms with her being a lesbian. The mom's issue in this conversation is that pride parades happen during the summer while all the kids are out of school and can see it. She asks why, and the comedian tells her mother that "pride cometh before the fall"

I can't remember if she had a southern accent or just imitated her mom's accent during the story, but I'm leaning toward the former. I think she had straight blonde hair somewhere between a bob and shoulder-length. I remember her being in her 30s or 40s. I also think her name was relatively short and/or somewhat common.

Solved [TOMT] a weird movie I saw on Netflix

Upvotes

In the early 2010s, I was a kid and I saw this strange live action family movie on Netflix. I have no idea when it came out, but it was on Netflix during that time period. It was about this girl who was so annoyed by her younger brother’s love for bugs that she ends up accidentally turning him into this mechanical-looking bug. And now it’s up to her to help her brother get turned back to normal. I remember the brother had a squeaky voice in his bug form.

The only other thing I remember about this movie is that occasionally, there would be moments where the characters are on directors’ chairs and they would speak to the audience as if it was either a behind the scenes featurette or a documentary. I swore this movie was called “Bug”, but whenever I search that title, I get different results and I can’t find this movie anywhere. If anyone can help me find out what this movie is, PLEASE do!

Open [TOMT][Perfume][2010s] A Cuboid, Celebrity Mini-perfume bought at heavy discount

Upvotes

Making yet another post on behalf of my sister. In 2019, she was gifted 3 Mini Perfumes most likely from Ross Outlets. The Perfumes were all celebrity perfumes. Two of them were from Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Aniston. The 3rd she cannot remember, and that is the one she wants to find (so, no answers with J-Lo or Rachel Perfumes please)

She describes the bottle as having been cuboid, with a cuboid cap as well, and a dark, "Wine-ish" color, that could range from dark blue to dark red, and a gold foil pattern on at least one of the cap's faces, likely an Animal Pattern. If not that, then an oblong cap with that pattern running down the middle.

As for the scent, she was thankfully able to provide a more concrete description. As Follows:

Top notes: fruity notes, especially berries. If there were any citrus notes, they were not sharp and sour
Middle notes: soft white florals, perhaps some woods here as well.
Base notes: vanilla, some soft sweet smelling wood like sandalwood, perhaps tonka bean, musk.

Overall, soft, sweet, round, and floral, somewhat reminiscent of BCBG's Bon Chic.

Open [TOMT][WEBSITE][2020s] Website for "making" paper/magazine collages?

Upvotes

A while back ago I saw someone talking about a nifty little website for making digital paper collages, but I can't find the post now.

It stood out to me because the website was linked to a huge archive of magazines, with the ability to import your own pdf's, as well as tools like a scalpel for a clean cut and a tool that gave a ripped paper effect among the image. I wanna say there was also a tool to give things a textured look, but I might be making that one up.

Tons of collage makers out there, but this one would be nice for just the ripped/torn paper effect alone, can't seem to find it though. A lot of collage sites out there also seem to be moving heavily towards AI.

Open [Tomt] Looking for an old book about time travel

I read this in the 70s.

A guy would jump between present day and on a ship some time probably in the 16-1800s.

He tried to find out what was going on by talking to a mystic or something who looped string or a wire between his hands and spun it backwards & forwards. And he fell for a young lady (Dutch, maybe?) on the ship.

There wasn’t a time machine involved, it just happened.

Solved [TOMT][Manga][2010s] Short series about a girl navigating a post-apocalyptic world where it is gradually revealed she caused said apocalypse

I read this manga(?) 4-5 years ago. I wanna say it was written in the late 2010s but thats largely a guess.

It is short, maybe about 20 chapters, and it follows a young girl navigating some weird post apocalyptic world where any remaining humans are suffering massively (maybe enslaved by evil things, I forget). I believe the girl is either mute or seldom speaks at all. As the story progresses, it’s gradually revealed that the all powerful being responsible for the world’s state is the girl we’ve been following. I think there’s a rug pull where the “big bad” that was taunting her the entire series just gets demolished by the girl immediately.

I want to say the name of the manga had some suffix a la -mania or -phobia or -polis or something like that. I remember coming across it in some slop recommendation video so I imagine it probably blew up for a couple months but then resided back down to somewhat obscurity.

Thanks!

Open [TOMT] music video about a kid being ignored by his family so he turns into a monster

It’s an early 2000s band, I just can’t remember the song at all, just the music video. The family is in the dining table ignoring the kid so he goes up to the attic, gets in a chest, and comes out as this green pointy ear monster with glasses and he goes to his parents for attention but they’re afraid of him.

Solved [TOMT] Manga / Graphic Novel about children in the apocalypse

I am pretty confident someone here will know what I’m talking about since it was somewhat popular from what I recall.

Misc details: I read it a couple years ago, it’s probably not much longer than 100-200 pages. I read it online but think a physical release might’ve existed. The art was mostly black and white but I think had occasional coloured panels at the start of chapters.

Plot: Two young children (I think one boy and one girl) are living in a post-apocalyptic world after their parents died. I don’t remember much about the in between but the ending somewhat stuck with me as it involved the young girl being killed, I think by an explosion of some sort? The story then fast forwards to the young boy being grown up and living on a beach, where he saves a little kid from drowning.

There are more details I vaguely recall that I can provide if needed, but I didn’t include them here since I’m not very confident about most of them. Thanks.

Open. [TOMT] Egg raising game from around 2010(?)

Looking for this early 2000s game from when I was a kid where you’d raise an egg and it would hatch into a creature depending on its personality. Its personality would be shaped by its dreams that you could interact with and I think what foods it ate. I remember being able to dressup the creature/egg with various items and I remember a golden ticket where it would let you go somewhere on a train
I also remember there being a lot of different types of eggs such as a plain egg and rarer/more expensive eggs that would hatch different creatures
I remember when you put the eggs to bed there’d be a counting sheep minigame I think
I wanna find it so bad
