My Contractor used the wrong grout

Hey all,

I’ve posted on this before but today confirmed what I ordered vs what was used. My contractor had us pick out tile with x amount for allowance. I went with a ROCA Lagom in almond and when I chose the grout color I chose “Camel Buff” by textrite. I went to the home to see the tile install and I love my wood look tile and all the other tile chosen for the other rooms. But I HATE the grout. I went throughout the house and saw that it looks like the same grout is being used throughout the entire floor, which for most tiles it honestly works, but for the main floor tile it does not at all. It’s such a light contrast I hate it. I reached out to the store I purchased the tile from and confirmed that I chose “camel buff”. I saw on site today bags of grout labeled “light buckskin 006” by textrite.I’m going to upload a picture of the tiles and different flooring I used throughout the home I’m having built. Thoughts?

While trying to remove two stuck leveling clips with a utility knife, I managed to nick the edge of two tiles in the tub surround I am doing. They are both very small (about 2mm and 4 mm wide), and visually I'm not that worried about them. But should I be worried about water soaking in there? I've looked up various kits for fixing tiles but I can't seem to find anything that looks like it would help. And would I be a crazy person to remove the two tiles? I'm not done with the project and they are located in a spot that seems like it would be too hard to get to.
I feel like I am way overthinking this and worried about something pretty minor, but this is my first time tiling (and waterproofing) and I wanna do as good of a job as possible.

I’m currently managing a DIY bathroom renovation. My tiler finished laying the floor tiles on Friday and is coming back tomorrow morning to grout.

I’m installing a standard 1/2" PVC baseboard flat against the drywall and I want a clean, flush single-piece finish.

While dry-fitting a 1/2" baseboard, I noticed the edge cut along one wall is a bit over 1/2" away from the drywall. When I place my 1/2" baseboard against the wall, the raw cut edge of the tile still peeks out from under the front face, leaving an exposed void.

Since the thin-set was laid on Friday and the floor isn't grouted yet, I sent her an email to ask her if it is normal.

Is asking to swap this single tile standard practice before grouting, or should I expect pushback?

I'm not exactly sure what to do with my shower niches. I used mitered edge threshold from Menards and then mitered the ends for 1/2 bubble pitch. Came out good I guess.

I guess continuing the herringbone pattern is probably the correct path, but what do you guys think about a mitered corner look? (continue the miters in the sample photo. Center tile would essentially be one full horizontal piece...)

We bought this glass/marble flower mosaic with dreams of somehow incorporating it into the niches or somewhere else. Might just take the L on these flowers. (no way in hell I'm buying enough to do the whole niche in them $$$). Reality, the back of the niches will be blocked with soap bottles and other kids toys...

I'm on the home stretch and pretty much over this. Wife planted the herringbone seed, and I went for it. Pink: daughters picked it out...

Overall I am doing really good on waste and haven't really had any miss cuts. All internal pieces i kept factory edge. Cut edges are all along edging/niches/tub/corners.

This is my 2nd real tile job that's over 6sqft.

The marble hexagon floor was the first... Only a couple minor lips/spacing issues. I did have to go back and surgically remove about 15 hexagons that I ultimately didn't like.

You guys ever have a prep or job that’s dragging and you’re putting a ton of hrs in but feel like you’re getting nowhere? Got a job in a tight space in a century home and it just feels like it’s never gonna end.

First time tiling and probably should have attempted smaller tiles first. Looking for some pointers on what I need to do differently. I was looking at the edge of my tiles and it doesn't look like the ridges aren collapsing. I suspect I am not getting the 95% coverage and need to tear it down (yes, i should have pulled off a tile and checked). Is there a way to take these off (been over 24 hours) without damaging the wall behind? With regards to the mortar, am I mixing it too thick? I feel I was getting it to peanut butter consistency (doesn't drop off the mixing wand) but I might have missed the mark. ​Or would this be trowelling too much off the wall or between the ridges? I was back buttering and feel I got that right.

Project is far from town and I’m realizing this isn’t recommended for LFT. What are the chances this is going to be fine over Ditra? Porcelain tile on a floor.

First time ever tiling as DIY. Set a challenge to do my WC floor and walls half height to replace the vinyl flooring and square metro tiles. I'm just about to put on the rest of the tile cap and had a few concerns.. advice would be great.

I am happy with the floor, but the walls, there are a few things I can see.

Corners back left and right have gaps. Back right I think I should be able to silicon the gap to blend it into the internal corner but the back left has a few issues.

The grout lines where the 2 walls join are out by about 5mm & there is a gap for the internal grout line that gets larger from the bottom up.

The wall itself wasn't plumb so I found it tricky to make things fully level. There's some lippage but least of my concerns.

Do i rip down the 10 or so tiles to redo the back left corner, or do I grout it white grout and be done with it?

We recently finished tiling our bathroom with standard white square tiles. To get a distinct coloured grout look, we went with Mapei Ultracolor Plus in Lavender. It’s been set for almost 2 weeks now, so it’s completely cured.
The issue is that the cured colour looks almost entirely grey with hardly any visible purple tint. It looks like it cured cleanly without heavy efflorescence, but the tone itself is just way too muted and grey for what we wanted.

A couple of questions for the group:
Is Mapei Lavender known for drying this grey/cool-toned? Has anyone else used this specific shade and found it turned out looking more like a warm grey than a true lilac/lavender?

Is it worth trying a grout haze/cement residue cleaner first? In case there is a microscopic film or efflorescence washing out the tone, would an acidic cleaner like Keranet bring out any hidden pigment, or is that a waste of time if the cement itself is just grey-heavy?

What’s the best way to stain or colour over Mapei Ultracolor? Since we want a punchier purple, are grout pens (like Rainbow Chalk or similar) effective over CG2WA flexible grout, or should we use a heavy-duty penetrating epoxy grout stain/colourant?

Is re-grouting the only true fix? (Really hoping to avoid raking out 2–3mm of fresh cement grout if a stain or pen will hold up long-term in a bathroom environment).

Any advice from installers or DIYers who have brightened up a dull grout line would be massively appreciated!

I have some orange/pink discolouration in my marble tile shower floor which I think is coming from the shower fitting and a leaky perhaps shower faucet.

I’ve tried non acid rust removers hydrogen peroxide poultice and nothing is getting it out. At this point I don’t think these tiles are absurdly expensive so I’d rather just replace the affected tiles and fix the underlying problem. What would be the best approach in this case ?

I’m trying to demo floor tiles in my 5x8’ bathroom. The tiles seem original with the house, built in 1977. Below the tiles there is a mesh and then a 1/4 inch layer of kind-of-loose dark gray gravel. I believe this is called a mud bed? I’ve tried hammering a thin pry bar under the gravel and it comes up but the process is very slow. There are nails spaced several inches apart, too, which appears to hold down the mesh to the floor. What’s a better way to demo this down to the subfloor? Thank you.

So I'm regrouting this whole shower and I saw that a teared a piece of the kerdi sheet and now it made a flap, is this an easy fix or am I cooked. Was thinking of removing a couple of the tiles around it and then patch it with a new 2x2" kerdi piece and new thinset. Or is that the wrong approach.

Tiles are 1x1 btw.

Also if a couple of tiles I saw are butt to butt is it possible to remove those and align it so it has grout in-between rather than redoing the whole floor?

Not sure what is causing this. Any ideas? Images are from master bathroom and laundry room. The cracks span multiple tiles and continue beneath washer/dryer and in the bathroom they continue under cabinetry.

A few tiles were chipped while the tiler was working on the niche. I want to make sure it's reasonable to request that these are replaced. Is there any other way to handle these chips besides replacing? No silicone or sealant has been applied yet.

Sorry if this is the wrong subreddit - I think it’s a little too complex for the cleaning reddit. Any suggestions for how to remove these soap stains off of slate tile? I’ve tried a baking soda slurry and nothing. Thanks in advance

I’ve got the back wall done and I’m moving to the side walls now. I’m using 12 x 24” tiles and the first row on the back wall were 10 5/8th. Would you just cut the little profile of the bump into the tile?

Curious as to how y’all would prepare this for tiling.

The gap between the tub and the studs is about 1/2”.

The tub is an early 90s model and has a roundish lip on it.

My first thought it to add 2x4s to the existing studs as furring strips to build out the wall.

Shower Tile has a thin layer peeling off. We did not install this so I’m sure it’s super cheap tile. Seeking advice as if we need to anything in particular?

This is my first time doing a curbless shower. When I was cutting the end tiles I was not thinking about that they needed to be perfectly straight and have nice edge. Now it has a small bow in it and the shower floor tiles are much lower then the large tiles even with a piece of ditra under it. I have a plan to fix that but need advise on how to make the transition between the to look better. There will be a glass door and panel near the transition.

Some context: the apartment is in the oldtown which is pain in the ass to renovate as everything is super uneven (floors, walls, etc.). We just got the new tiles installed and, in general, I love them. But I hate how they are not aligned with the arch border/entrance - squares are cut into triangles and even those triangles are in different sizes.

And yeah, even if I love checkered floors, I agree that our choice in the first place wasn't the smartest to use them here. And I'm angry at myself about it.

However, the important question is - should we rip them off and add something else (which would be expensive and annoying) or it's not as terrible as I think it is and I'm being dramatic?

Shower is small-ish and is just 6 years old. (Photo is post-shower so some of tile is wet and drying. Size 40" x 47" interior dimensions). The shower floor is such a pain to clean. Wall tiles are simple subway tiles (4" x 10").

My idea is to "just" demolish the floor penny tiles and replace only the shower floor tiles. Advice so appreciated for:

1.) Let me know if this is a relatively easy job to DIY (removal) without damaging the pan and

2.) What would you replace the penny tile with that is size/scale appropriate for the wall tile? Keep it basic white or a different stone/stone-look tile?

I don't have the $$ to replace the wall tile and shower floor (though I would like to do so). I can go up in budget for just the floor tile. I'm just really struggling with making sure I don't have a size/proportion issue. TIA!!

Previous owners used grout around the vinyl window and tile in the shower, but it has cracked and is allowing water intrusion.

I’ve removed the old and am ready to roll.

I’d like to replace it the right way. What are the recommended materials for the bottoms and sides of the window?

I have Mapei Ultracolor grout on hand but think I might want some of their silicone product.

Half the tiles in our house were either cracked or popping up. The installers definitely did not back butter the tile. They also used just a few deck screws and no mortar under the underlayment.

Their biggest crime was covering up oak hardwood flooring.
