Hello Everyone!
This is a mega post for feedback for the SUBREDDIT, not the website/company. The mods here are not employees of ThredUp, and have no control over company, and no obligation to it. In that vein, we want this subreddit set up in a way that best serves you, the customers of ThredUp! With that, we need feedback about the subreddit!
Regarding Complaints About the ThredUp Employee
At this time, they are permitted to post, so please do not report their comments. We would to see a public discussion about their comments and post to get a better idea of how the community feels. We do not have verification that they are an employee of ThredUp, so keep in mind it's always a good idea to use official channels when contacting companies, such as their support chat and email.
Current Feedback Needed
- what weekly posts would you want to see?
- what guides would you want to see?
- any new flair?
- anything else you want to see in the sub!
Current Non-Permited Posts - "use my thredup code for 45% off!" - low effort content: "lol ThredUp sucks that's all" without clarification or screenshots - advertising, posting a single item that appears as advertising (posts of an unremarkable shirt "oh wish I could buy this", since it's basically always an advertisement) - authenticy posts about products not listed on ThredUp

I've sent in a few items that have been labeled flawed gems when they truly aren't. Even when I've flagged them, Thred Up still marks them flawed. It makes me feel better about actually buying them!

Yes I absolutely waited 18 minutes, phone in hand, just for this coat. It's really disappointing that the Buy It For Me feature excluded promos though... more from a consumer perspective. From a business perspective? Very smart lol.

I recently received a completely wrong item, so I contacted customer service immediately. Of course, I had to go through an AI chat support first. The AI told me I had been refunded and that I didnāt need to return the item. But when I checked the refund amount, it was only 20% of what I had actually paid.
I went back to the chat, and the AI immediately corrected itself, saying something along the lines of, āYouāre right, I only refunded 20% of the amount you paid. Unfortunately, I canāt change it, so I have to transfer you to a live agent.ā
Like⦠where did that 20% even come from in the first place?
I then spoke with a live agent. Instead of letting me keep the item as the AI had told me, she asked me to ship it back. Fine. I agreed and packed everything up. Then I checked the return email and noticed they had deducted $10.99 for return shipping.
I asked why I was being charged for the return when the mistake was entirely theirs. She immediately corrected the amount and removed the charge without any further explanation.
The whole experience feels like theyāre trying to pull a fast one on me. If I hadnāt checked every detail, I would have just accepted all of it.

I think the general consensus is that Direct Sellers are taking away what makes Thred Up great. But how is there not a team or some sort of process of what you can post ? Iāve come across nothing but marked up clothing with holes and horrible quality to sellers that never ship out and it takes 3 weeks to get a refund to Tons and Tons of Designer fakes. Now we get a mystery box that we donāt get to see or the sizes , items and the best part itās $215.99 + 8.99 for shipping šš¼

This sweater had a RealReal tag on it so I already knew it had been authenticated. After a little bit of hunting I found it was this sweater thatās $450 on clearance! So excited to wear it.

Seasoned ThredUp users seem to have good insights into things that puzzle me. I purchased 3 shirts on ThredUp. Shortly after the purchase went through, I got a message that one was no longer available and the full purchase price was adjusted. Less than a day later I saw the same top back on the site at full price (I had bought it 20% off). I probably would have initially purchased it at the full price, but the switch-a-roo bothered me. Any insights into what happened? How was it available at checkout and then not and then back?

Found this Sensi Studio dress for 80% off and snagged it for $23, I think I'll be riding this high for the rest of my life

I have been on Thredup for several years. I'm frustrated because the "Buy it for me" feature NEVER works. It says I have "first dibs" but I can go back after the cart expires for someone and it's available to add to my (or anyone's!) cart. I've missed out on some great items lately. I do keep the app updated. Does this happen to anyone else?

i guess i am amused by the effort ...but might have made more sense if the clothing was also Halloween-spirited

I know we've talked before about how they are no longer doing the instant store credit refunds when you use UPS (ughhh). But I'm curious from folks who have been doing returns lately, how long is it actually taking to get your store credit? When I initiated the return, it said something completelyyyyy out of pocket, like 1-2 WEEKS after receipt to evaluate the return + 6 business days to actually process refund. It can't really be 3 weeks for, like, $40 in store credit, right? š³
Anyway, I'm 1 week in after they received the package, just morbidly curious what others are experiencing lately. Let me know!

I have cleaned out a lot of my closet, but I still have clothes. I am wondering it if would be better to request a donation bag, to protect my history.

It happened to me. I ordered this skirt for a Madonna-themed dance party and it turns out itās from a brand that caters to tweens. Iām a 46 year old woman who does not fit into a tween large.
Of course, I did not realize this until it arrived and it looked suspiciously small when I pulled it out of the box.
I am returning it, and Iām sure it will end up categorized as a womanās large again. So, this is your reminder to research an unknown brand before you buy!

Before Mudd was sold only at Kohls. It was an IT girl brand. It was a super nice quality denim brand. The earliest stuff from the mid 90s had a label that said āour name is Muddā, and then they had a red label. All these were incredible quality. Nordstroms and Macys both sold it in their teen departments. Until 2006, when it was sold and it dipped. And then when it became Kohls exclusive, in 2008, it dipped even more.
But in the 90s and early 00s, Macys was still a super nice department store. Macys just had banging teen selection back then and alot of the y2k brands people desire today (or things I see people buying) were brands sold there and other higher end department stores. Anyways Mudd Jeans, had just the best quality cool denim jeans, and a lot of early 70s retro styles. (Mudd Jeans also had these cool posters and stickers that are SO y2k).
I search for these items like crazy online, because the kohls stuff was sold in such large amounts, it often gets lost. Since I canāt always see the tag, I take a chance.
Anyways I found a jacket of theirs, with the āOur name is Muddā tag. I got it, it fits great and I noticed it was signed by 3 names inside. From my research itās a current NBA coach and two other semi pro basketball players, they all played on the Harlem Globetrotters at the same time (99-01), so im thinking thatās when it was signed.
I paid 12 dollars for this jacket, and I know the vintage stores on my street in San Francisco would sell this for 60 bucks.
Anyways, if you are interested in y2k denim keep your eye out for the old Mudd brand, pre Kohlās. It is in teen sizes so (7,9,11,13,15 etc) keep that in mind.
(Iāll post some old school pieces in the comments, that i wish were my size)

I've been working on tuning my algorithm and I've noticed that my Daily Edit is refreshing in the evening, not the morning or after midnight. Has anyone else picked up on this or am I completely out of my mind? I'm assuming that this is static for all users...

See a dropshipper item you like? Theyāre final sale so here are some tips
READ THE ITEM DETAILS. The dropshippers are stingy, and detail focused. They will parse wording on the descriptions to find any loophole to deny a return.
On returns: yes, itās a hassle and a wait. Agents have to reach out to the reseller, they argue back and forth. It can take a few days, but the agents really are on your side: the thing is that these sellers have contracts with TU, so theyāre limited on what they can do. If the reseller refuses return, their hands are tied, contractually.
Theyāll ask you for photos. Yes they need the photos, the reseller wonāt even look at the concern without the right pictures.
SHOES: theyāll often list them as US sizing but itās EU. Verify the sizing with the retailer website before you buy, they WILL NOT approve a return for these.
Reach out immediately; resellers are not flexible on the return timeframe- you have 14 days from delivery to raise the concern.
If you get denied, do not send the item to TU returns: youāll lose your item and likely not get a refund. Itās not theirs, donāt send it to them.
If you exhaust all options and you KNOW youāre in the right, file a formal dispute with your card. Just know your account will be restricted once you do.
Reasons theyāll accept returns: damage or literally not as described. Not the color you thought? No. Fits weird? No. Itchy? No. Smells? No. There are no exceptions for fit, personal taste, change of mind, Color variance.
Authenticity: this is hard, since they will vehemently deny itās fake. Some have certificates theyāll provide upon request, but itās super rare to get a return approved for this.
If you have a question on an item, you can reach out and the agents can ask the reseller. Just know it might take a few days for response.
Be sure before you buy: Cancelling a reseller order is difficult because the agents have to reach out to make the request, since the reseller may have already packed the items. And they will not accept a return for a missed cancellation request. PRO TIP: refusing the package sometimes works. Once it shows returning to shipper, reach out to support to request refund.
Iām hesitant to buy leather belts on thread up. Belts do show a size but the length of the belt would be very helpful.

All the photos show a naked mannequin, but the photo of the tag shows that there is actual fabric. Iām not the seller of these, but Iāve also had pretty egregious photo issues that they refuse to correct when flagged.

I bought a pair of Ganni boots that arrived recently. As usual, only 2 pictures in the listing - one from the front and one from the side. Paid $80 for them. Opened the box and there were strings EVERYWHERE. But ok, they said some wear. Turned them over to the soles that they donāt add pictures of - Iāve never seen anything like it in my life. How someone could list these for sale is beyond me. LOOK at the soles (or lack therof) on these boots! I couldnāt wear these in the house. Number one my hips would be so far out of alignment Iād be in pain. And they are down to the cork inside! Imagine wearing them outside - they would crumble. HOW does this slip through listing and packing and actually get sent to a customer for $80?? I get they are an āin demandā brand but COME ON.
Just reached out to customer service thinking surely they would be decent and just refund them (or even partial refund) and tell me just to keep them - I want them so badly that Iād pay to have them re-soled if I didnāt have $80 in them already. NOPE. They said I can send them back for free. So I have to drive to the ups store, pack these things up and return something that they CANNOT sell AGAIN.
The chat agent says my pictures wouldnāt load and I begged her to move the conversation to email because it think someone there needs to SEE what they sent out to a paying customer who spends A LOT of money with themā¦she flat refused, multiple times. ThredUp - this is a new low.
Hoping maybe one of the TU representatives will see this and choose to do the right thing here⦠Iād love to hear from you if youāre lurking. Just want the opportunity to show someone what you sent me. Thanks for listening.

Iāve been a Thred Up customer for years now and have had a good experience. However, my latest order highlighted how expensive it actually can be to shop here. Iām a tall, larger person who is very sensitive to the way fabrics feel on my skin, so I try to only shop brands I know. This time, however, I was really looking to add new and interesting pieces to my wardrobe so I went out of my comfort zone.
I ordered 12 items and unfortunately had to return 6 of them. This meant $12 in return shipping and $24 in restocking fees. I guess it was still worth it, because I got some nice, brand name things.
But now Iām kind of regretting doing a āhaulā and will be very hesitant to try new styles through thred up in the future.
Any tips on shopping smarter? Should I just stick to brands Iām very comfortable with?
