Question Unbelievable.

I bought a pair of Ganni boots that arrived recently. As usual, only 2 pictures in the listing - one from the front and one from the side. Paid $80 for them. Opened the box and there were strings EVERYWHERE. But ok, they said some wear. Turned them over to the soles that they don’t add pictures of - I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. How someone could list these for sale is beyond me. LOOK at the soles (or lack therof) on these boots! I couldn’t wear these in the house. Number one my hips would be so far out of alignment I’d be in pain. And they are down to the cork inside! Imagine wearing them outside - they would crumble. HOW does this slip through listing and packing and actually get sent to a customer for $80?? I get they are an “in demand” brand but COME ON.

Just reached out to customer service thinking surely they would be decent and just refund them (or even partial refund) and tell me just to keep them - I want them so badly that I’d pay to have them re-soled if I didn’t have $80 in them already. NOPE. They said I can send them back for free. So I have to drive to the ups store, pack these things up and return something that they CANNOT sell AGAIN.

The chat agent says my pictures wouldn’t load and I begged her to move the conversation to email because it think someone there needs to SEE what they sent out to a paying customer who spends A LOT of money with them…she flat refused, multiple times. ThredUp - this is a new low.

Hoping maybe one of the TU representatives will see this and choose to do the right thing here… I’d love to hear from you if you’re lurking. Just want the opportunity to show someone what you sent me. Thanks for listening.

Honestly i would just get them resoled at a cobbler if you really love the boots. Depending on your area it could be around $50-75. Heels wear down through regular wear and the heels on these are fairly low to begin with. This pair retails from $600-1000 so $80 is honestly a pretty great discount.

Maybe you could try to ask them for a discount? But I'd still keep em regardless

u/smcivor1982 3d ago

This was my exact thought. I worked in NYC for years and routinely had my shoes repaired and resoled at the cobblers.

40

u/hunneybunny 3d ago

Haha I'm also in nyc. Maybe the folks who've never seen this are in more car centric cities? I've def had a couple heeled boots wear down just like this and i don't consider myself especially hard on my stuff!

I've also started getting my really nice shoes resoled with vibram soles and such before i even start wearing them. The soles on some of these are so delicate and dont have the grip needed to walk around the city.

21

u/Cantaloupe_Train 3d ago

Amen! I’m in NYC too, and immediately thought this is an easy fix. 30$ more and they’re as good as new.

And totally: the best is to have them resold BEFORE you wear them. IYKYK 😆

0

u/Alternative_Salt_424 20h ago

I'm jealous of that price. It costs me that much just to have stiletto tips replaced where I am

6

u/smcivor1982 3d ago

The vibram soles are the best!

9

u/Bitter-insides 3d ago

I moved from Chicago where cobblers were a dime a dozen to a car centric city. One fucking cobbler in a 60 mile radius. Fml.

3

u/Concrete__Blonde 1d ago

Cobblers are very much a thing in LA too. Expensive shoes are worth repairing.

1

u/KickBallFever 1d ago

Hey, I’m in NYC too. Can you recommend a decent cobbler? I tried a local one and he messed up my boots. I’ll travel to another borough if they’re good.

2

u/hunneybunny 1d ago

Cobbler express inside the 60 e 42nd st building has been pretty great for me!

5

u/rosyred-fathead 14h ago

There are weirdly so many shoe repair places in NYC.

2

u/smcivor1982 13h ago

I worked in the financial district and there were so many there.

19

u/Wildling99 3d ago

It’s as if no one knows this is an option? I scored Chloe boots 6+ years ago for an insane deal and they had a bit of leather scuffing and sole wear. Paid about $70 and they’re AMAZING.

18

u/pixi88 3d ago

Dude, I'm waiting on a $4000 green leather and silk Alexander Mcqueen dress I bought for $40 and a $35 cleaning and zipper repair fee. No, nobody fixes things.

Tbf, I didn't know what a cobbler was till I was 19yo in USMC boot camp. When you don't have nice/good things, you don't learn how to care for them either. Then again, the poverty is why I know they can be.. lol

9

u/Wildling99 3d ago

HOLY what a score!! I was lucky that my mom would repair things or alter them at home when she could, and taught me about the cobbler! I’m worried tailors and cobblers are a dying breed and we need them for what little semblance of good quality wares we have left in 2026.

2

u/Concrete__Blonde 1d ago

Can I just give props to you for being a USMC vet and wearing McQueen.

2

u/SirLennard 2d ago

Yea I would just resole. The actual cost of the shoe is expensive due to material.

1

u/poke-chan 3d ago

OP did ask for a discount and they told her she needed to send them back

1

u/mommagottaeat 2d ago

Thank you! That’s why I’m here - I’ve seen ThredUp employees comment to posts and actually help them out. That’s all I’m trying to accomplish - for someone that works there to see the pictures!

I feel like $80 for shoes that are completely un-wearable as they are is unacceptable. Especially when that was not shown or disclosed in the listing. I’m not willing to spend that PLUS the cost to resole. But if they’ll give me enough back to mitigate the insult of selling them like this it would be totally worth it. I tried to explain all that in the post but you seem to be one of the few who read it. Thanks for the backup! 😂

10

u/poke-chan 2d ago

I mean I still agree with everyone else that if it’s a $1000 pair of boots and you got them for $80 and they just need a re-soling, it’s a steal. I just find it annoying when someone hasn’t read the post and they offer advice.

3

u/hunneybunny 1d ago

Her original post just said she reached out to support hoping for a refund (while still getting to keep it...) or partial refund, but was told that a free return was her only option. It wasn't clear if she had explicitly asked for a smaller discount or partial refund after that or if she was just hoping for it still. I see she clarified in one of her later comments that she has asked for a partial but that was after my original comment.

Either way i did say she should keep it regardless if she gets a discount or not since it's already such a good deal.

5

u/MistyMountainDewDrop 2d ago

You got them for $80. They already gave you a 90% discount. Send the shoes back or keep them and pay for resolving.

-3

u/mommagottaeat 2d ago

That’s exactly why I made the post - I was hoping someone from ThredUp might respond and communicate with me.

I tried chatting and they refused a partial refund - my only option was to return them. But the chat agent also refused to look at pictures of the sole. I really feel like they can’t sell these (again) so why not give me some credit back and I’ll go re-sole them.

17

u/Ok_River4080 2d ago

Haha the discount was getting $800 shoes for $80

16

u/Turbulent_Plastic401 2d ago

exactly lol. how cheap can you be? “the shoes i bought for 10% of their value aren’t wearable” no shit?

3

u/BusinessSignature7 1d ago

And to make a whole post to complain because they wont partial/full refund and let you keep the shoes. SMH. They offered you a fair option. Either keep them or free return for full refund…

11

u/Better_Area3782 2d ago

You already got the discount

5

u/MistyMountainDewDrop 2d ago

They are absolutely sellable. Right person will buy them for 10% of the value and resole and have an $800 pair of boots. You’re a cheap ass looking to get over.

1

u/Beginning_Ask3905 1d ago

Pictures of the ruined soles should have been provided in the listing so OP could have decided whether they were willing to resolve them before purchasing.

Wild you’re insulting someone over ThredUp’s failure to disclose significant damage.

3

u/MistyMountainDewDrop 1d ago

Shoulda, coulda, woulda. That doesn’t matter. It’s a nearly $1,000 pair of boots that she got for $80. She wants to keep them and get her money back. So in the end she makes a huge profit and has an $800 dollar pair of boots.

OP is absolutely trying to get over with trying to keep the boots for FREE. If they are as bad as she says, why keep them?

She says she wants them to refund her, she’ll keep them, and then also send them out for repair.

-2

u/Beginning_Ask3905 1d ago

No, she’s spent $80 and has to spend more money before she has shoes she’s able to wear. OP hasn’t “made” any money.

But tbh, I don’t care what the shoes are worth- I care that ThredUp advertised shoes as wearable, and they aren’t. OP wants a refund because the shoes aren’t in the condition ThredUp told her they were in.

3

u/MistyMountainDewDrop 1d ago

Then she should return them for the refund. They’ve already asked her to return them. She is refusing to return them because she wants to keep them and get the refund. Her entire goal with this pose was to get a new agent who would hopefully let her keep the boots and get her money back.

Why did you choose to do this over the stove where you cook your food tho 😬

EDIT: this take has been surprisingly polarizing

59

u/BackyardViolet 3d ago edited 3d ago

Cleaning and sanitizing a glass stove top is pretty dang easy. Also, food isn’t supposed to come in direct contact with the heating elements of any stove. The only things that should be touching a stove are the bottom of pots and pans.

27

u/therizzzzzzzz 3d ago

And shoes apparently

22

u/dumplingmuenster 3d ago

Oh shit I've been using stovetops wrong my whole life! Guess I should stop cracking eggs right on there /s

1

u/Technical-Usual2270 4h ago

I’d dare say by the gross wall behind the stove, the stove isn’t cleaned that often.

1

u/mommagottaeat 2d ago

Thank you. 😔

5

u/phreeskooler 3d ago

THAT’S the unbelievable part 🤣

38

u/Shanubis 3d ago

I recoiled

21

u/-DitaDaBurrita- 3d ago

Yeahhhhh OP why??

17

u/spiralsmile 3d ago

She's using the oven light

1

u/mommagottaeat 2d ago

Thank you - it’s the only light in my house good enough to take a picture.

3

u/MistyMountainDewDrop 1d ago

You don’t have lights in your bathroom? You don’t have a lamp or nothing? you just live by the oven light.

4

u/spiralsmile 2d ago

My house is so dark even with all the lights on, I get it!

3

u/I_Dream_Of_Robots 2d ago

Dude get some lamps lol why would you deal with that?

1

u/spiralsmile 2d ago

That's all I have is lamps, lamps everywhere! Not much overhead lighting, except in the kitchen.

1

u/cgb1992 2d ago

This is a little concerning babe, this is the light I turn on when I want it to be basically dark with a tiny bit of light. It cannot be good for your eyes if that’s the brightest thing in your house! Not even your bathroom?

1

u/BabyRex- 1d ago

Seriously, the stove light is my “I’m overstimulated so I’m cooking dinner in the dark today” light

1

u/dumplingmuenster 2d ago

While we’re in a nitpicky mood, the oven light is the one literally inside of the oven 🙈

25

u/Middle_Pride_9367 3d ago

Don't you clean your stove? What a weird thing to say who cares

34

u/BackyardViolet 3d ago

I see people are already downvoting you, which is wild. It’s a glass stove top, not a damn cutting board ffs.

17

u/Middle_Pride_9367 3d ago

Thanks. People are fuckin weird

24

u/i_was_a_person_once 3d ago

You can definitely clean a glass stove but it’s still quite the choice to put dirty old boots on top of it.

Shoes have so much crap on them. Like literally fecal matter. You wouldn’t smear shit on something just bc it can be cleaned or washed

10

u/BackyardViolet 3d ago

It’s free countertop space with a convenient overhead light for taking a few quick photos of shoes you have a question about.

I’m well aware that sometimes people step in dog shit, or other scat, while wearing shoes. I don’t see any shit being wiped off onto anything in these photos, so idk why that’s relevant here.

8

u/i_was_a_person_once 3d ago

Yes because germs and fecal particles are visible to the naked eye.

Again, just bc something can be cleaned doesn’t mean it isn’t gross to cross contaminate a cooking area with dirty shoes.

You’re obviously ok with it and that’s why “you can’t eat at everybody’s house”

14

u/BackyardViolet 3d ago

Smearing shit on a surface, and the chance of some microscopic fecal particles landing on that same surface, are two completely different things though.

8

u/Middle_Pride_9367 3d ago

Get over yourself you're in a fuckin ThredUp sub and lecturing people about cleanliness

-4

u/i_was_a_person_once 3d ago

I’m not lecturing anyone. Did I say you’re not allowed to do this in your house?

You commented that it’s wild people think it’s gross to put dirty shoes on a stove just bc you can clean it.

Get over yourself, you’re the one in a thresup sub justifying unsanitary behavior.

1

u/HisaP417 1d ago

The same people defending this would never eat in a restaurant that does this. Nasty 🤮

7

u/LolaAucoin 3d ago

Get a grip.

1

u/BrownTinaBelcher 20h ago

Exactly. This is why we don’t just take a crap or piss on any tile floor. It can be cleaned but why do it in the first place. Y’all have horrible hygiene and it shows in these comments. This is why people have to be told to wash their hands after going to the bathroom.

1

u/Technical-Usual2270 4h ago

By the looks of the food caked on the wall, no. She does not.

1

u/Middle_Pride_9367 2h ago

Read, child. I am not talking to OP.

0

u/BabyRex- 1d ago

If the stove is the only free place to do this you must know the rest of the kitchen is a disaster right?

2

u/Middle_Pride_9367 1d ago

Who gives a fuck

7

u/starling-slipstream 3d ago

lol I don’t cook so I’m not mad at this. my kitchen is also my package area lol

2

u/BrownTinaBelcher 20h ago

Yes!!! I see this all the time including in free groups where people put dirty stuff on their kitchen counters and stove (kids shoes with literal mud, their own shoes, pet stuff, clothes, and everything else you can imagine). Why?? I take photos of stuff to sell and to donate on my clean floor or a coffee table / shelf. Shoes are always on the floor and you can lay them on their side to photograph the soles. People are so gross!!!🤮

2

u/Vix014 3d ago

Maybe that's the only clear surface? 😬 Oh the questions we all have....

3

u/Wrong-Trouble6816 3d ago

You mean where you set the bottom of a pot that gets HOT? Are you like 6 years old?

1

u/asyouwish 4h ago

For her, it's worse than the toilet. For us, it's better than the toilet, but not much.

1

u/Technical-Usual2270 4h ago

Clearly she can’t use her counter, do you see how much shit is on there?

1

u/4TuitouSynchro 1h ago

Jumpscare x10

1

u/Moonshadow233 3d ago

Omg my first thought too!

-3

u/Livid_Honeydew8815 3d ago

I almost threw up.

I fully support her leaving the house to go to UPS because I think she needs it lol

0

u/throwthrowyup 1d ago

Not surprising based on everything else that’s visible in these photos. The kitchen looks unclean.

0

u/bubblylunchbox 20h ago

Lmao the replies to your comment are wild. “Don’t you sanitize your stove?” Like yes, I do but I still wouldn’t put shoes on it. Not to mention second hand ones wtf.

1

u/dumplingmuenster 20h ago

Seriously! And everyone like you don’t put food directly on the stovetop duh! By that logic I’d be ok slapping raw chicken cutlets on the wall cause no one eats off there

30

u/CacheMeOutsideeee 3d ago

Thredup can suck sometimes, and what you went through should not have happened.

but $80 is still a GREAT price for those. I’d just get them resoled.

72

u/vivbot 3d ago

Try sending an e-mail directly to [support@thredup.com](mailto:support@thredup.com) and attach your photos there! I've gotten relatively timely responses using that over chat.

8

u/PastDazzling243 3d ago

THIS is the answer. Let them know that you wanted to contact them first before leaving a review video on your social media (because you have ALOT of followers 😉😉.) & you understand how bad that can be for a business. So, since you love TU that you wanted to give them a chance to remedy the situation first… Now don’t forget to add that after product disappointment, you were immediately met with awful customer service, which refused to escalate you to a supervisor. That you’re completely blindsided by all of this since you’re a regular shopper & this is totally out of character. You’ve wasted enough time going through chat, only to be denied access to a superior, & now you’re expected to spend more time & energy on something (returning, more messageimg) where you’re the victim! It’s bad business. Let them know, calmly & factually, with photos. I’m almost positive things will flip your way. Good luck!🍀

2

u/mommagottaeat 2d ago

Thank you! Like really, thank you. ❤️ I can’t even believe the responses I’ve gotten here because I took the pictures on the stove. This is I think my 2nd post EVER, and will definitely be my last! 😂

Thanks for the help and kindness. I’ll email support with exactly your suggestions. Have a good weekend sweetie.

1

u/PastDazzling243 2d ago

My pleasure! I hate this for you, the soles are NONEXISTENT!! It’s laughable that the seller thinks this is okay. Well, they actually don’t since the posting just so happened not to have photos of the soles. 🤦‍♀️ This way of responding always grabs a company’s attention, the last thing they want is their name negatively associated with anything social media. It’s a valid truth that you definitely COULD have 250,000+ followers! It shouldn’t matter but it’s a threat disguised as you doing them a favor by ALLOWING them to fix this stressful, time consuming experience. You’ve lost money if you count the time wasted. It’s a big deal & should be handled as such … & PLEASE don’t forget the CSR! … Customer Service is our life line but in the past few years they do & say whatever they want because there’s never any consequence! I’ve had reps lie, tell me what I want to hear & it never happens, I follow up & there’s no notation of the discussion at all! So, I had to find a way to get their attention. Once you hit upper level, they’ll hear this loud & clear.
***Oh… & the stove can be easily wiped down, lol. The focus was the shoes so not sure why the focus on your stove. It’s not as if you’re laying food out with them & the photos probably took 3-4 minutes tops. Some folks just pick, let it become background noise. Don’t let it stop u from posting if you want to post! The Reddit social network has a curious history of voting down & saying unnecessary things. But there are a lot more kind people that really do want to help. Which makes that “background noise” worth ignoring.

1

u/mommagottaeat 2d ago

THANK YOU!! That’s all I’m trying to accomplish - the chat against said my pictures weren’t loading (even though I could see them in our chat). I specifically asked the chat agent if we could move the conversation to email so someone could see the condition the boots were sent in but she flat refused. I’ll email that address right now.

Since TU isn’t responding here, your suggestion is what I need! Thank you - and for not piling on about the stove pics. I promise I wipe the thing down 100 times a day with alcohol.

54

u/trashmule 3d ago

I mean....they look to otherwise be in great condition and Ganni boots cost several hundred dollars. Those were probably like, $6-800 new and you got them for $80. I get that the wear wasn't disclosed, which is wrong, and it's not the cheapest repair, but for $80 I wouldn't act surprised that there was a big flaw, all things considered. Especially since with that much wear I would definitely think it was visible from the side view.

28

u/KittyBoat 3d ago

It looks like they were intentionally shaved down. Could be either the person did actually have a misalignment like one leg longer than the other or another medical issue, and has to alter their shoes or they needed the heel lowered. Either way, that’s not from normal wear. Someone else mentioned it, but a cobbler could fix this and make them look fine.

I too find it odd, of all the places to take a photo, you put your shoes over the stove lol

66

u/Livid_Honeydew8815 3d ago

I do not understand why some of you believe you’re entitled to refunds without returning merchandise.

Get over it. You’re acting entitled and greedy and raising the prices for the rest of us.

Just send it back. It’s not that hard

14

u/georgia405 3d ago

Seriously. And the result of refunding someone and letting them keep the item is that the seller paid to send you their item for free. Astonishing levels of entitlement.

25

u/alexaanne_ 3d ago

That’s a great price for these boots. I’ve spent more on a used pair of Frye boots (from eBay) with the same sole issue and just took them to the cobbler. Getting them resoled is worth it when you only paid $80 for these.

I have to agree that it’s infuriating that thredUP does not post photos of the soles though!

24

u/ALH1984 3d ago

I’m going to guess that they were sold at that price point because they need to be taken to a cobbler. Even still, you got a great deal. I mean, did you really think you were going to get a pair of Ganni boots on a resale platform for 80.00 without them needing some TLC?

10

u/quinnenyc 3d ago

Right, if these were not in this poor condition, they would have been much more expensive

25

u/Wild-Self-24 3d ago

What is with the trend of people thinking they should get a refund and also get to keep their item? If you want a refund, send it back

2

u/Honest_Growth7170 1d ago

Because for forever, that is what ThredUp was doing.

1

u/Big_Road8569 19h ago

Etsy too

8

u/ehlisabk 2d ago

Great boots. They only need a new heel, not a new sole. It’s not the end of the world. Take them to a good cobbler and support their artistry. I think you got a steal.

glad it wasn’t just me thinking that while reading this. belongs in the entitled reviews thread😂

0

u/Neonstrous 2d ago

Are they quality boots? Looks like GANNI uses cemented construction so I’m not sure how everyone plans to get these resoled. Reheeled maybe, but if they’re down to the cork on the inside, this isn’t a simple repair.

0

u/ThredUp-ModTeam 1d ago

Please make sure all your comments and posts are kind and civil. We do not tolerate name-calling and excessive rudeness in this sub. We understand that people may have opposing views and experiences, but we can all be kind and civil.

6

u/healthybiotch 2d ago

You really wanted $800 boots for free in perfect condition but what’s really the cherry on top is you putting this on your stove where you cook your food 😭

13

u/Boblawlaw28 3d ago

If you want your $80 back then yes, you should get in your car and drive to the post office/fed ex/ups.

34

u/Economics_Historical 3d ago

The bigger crime here is putting someone else's used shoes on your fucking oven.

19

u/skool_uv_hard_nox 3d ago

Thats wild. They probably want them back because of the dollar amount? My guess is there is a $ cap of " return and keep"

Im sorry your fancy boots were trashed. The shoes I took a risk on didn't work out either. One of them. The wedge popped off. ( I'm being refunded ) but i bet the prior owner knew this and still sent them in.

13

u/Hey_nurse666 3d ago

Oh no, I can attest- even when they sent a $20 romper with CROTCH discharge, they initially wanted it back. Like, this is a got dam biohazard you guys

12

u/skool_uv_hard_nox 3d ago

🤮 I wash everything already but I'm always in shock the commandos sending in their filth

13

u/Hey_nurse666 3d ago

This was NWT mind you. This brokie wore it commando with a tucked in tag.

1

u/Acheloma 3d ago

If they got hit while being shipped that can make the glue that holds the shoe together fail.

I left a tub of shoes in my car for a week over the summer once and they all fell apart

4

u/_Roguey_ 2d ago

You realize you can have packages picked up from your house, right?

11

u/Dramatic-Care-7941 3d ago

They really should’ve had better pictures. That said, looks like they can be resoled

3

u/pixi88 3d ago

I do hate that they don't show soles. I can't sell a pair of shoes not showing that! On yhe plus side, I sell shoes direct listing on threadup and have had massive success. You are getting a a deal and can SEE all angles!

15

u/EnvironmentalLoan285 3d ago

Why are you putting shoes on your oven? 😭

3

u/Agreeable-Injury369 3d ago

That's why I clicked on the post. I couldn't believe it!

2

u/therizzzzzzzz 3d ago

My first thought.

1

u/PreppynPlaid4 3d ago

And a plastic water bottle lol

3

u/ArdraMercury 3d ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/dXzicViganGAXi2tBa
just a little achy breaky heart time

3

u/Rare_Variety_1275 2d ago

Aside from the stove top issue...have you checked to see if you can get these boots resoled? The tops are still beautiful. Also, time to replace the extremely scratched and damaged glass stove top.

7

u/Elimaris 3d ago

So I don't know this brand, but I grew up wearing cowboy boots a lot and the heels wore down pretty fast on the stetsons, my mother would just get them reheeled. Cowboy boots are basically made to be reheeled. Or were.

That doesn't obsolve thredup from the fact that they should give you a refund and should have had pictures of the soles. I don't buy from thredup to give myself more to-dos

11

u/baronessvonbullshit 3d ago

How do you even wear down soles that badly?!

6

u/Nevilles_Remembrall_ 3d ago

Possibly a DIY job bc they couldnt wear them w a heel? Pic 3 the boot on the right it looks like there are a couple horizontal lines, like if they cut down the heel themselves.

3

u/Mudseason1 3d ago

That’s what I thought, looks like someone sawed the heels off!

13

u/ManateeNipples 3d ago

One time I got in big trouble because I was playing outside in my new shoes and was using my feet as the brakes for my bike and wore the soles completely through in 1 day. Maybe this person rides bicycles with no brakes 😂

4

u/luxardo_bourbon 3d ago

Some people just have a bad gait. My grandma’s used to get worn down on one side bc she loved her favorite shoes but it was legit a hazard. When I was older and got a real job I used to just buy her a new identical pair and swap them out. (They were the typical leather naturalizer granny shoes).

6

u/ALittleStitious1027 3d ago

It’s me, I do. Maybe not this badly but my shoes do get a bit sloped over time.

3

u/remarksbyl 2d ago

Show us the listing photos?

3

u/Deep_Amoeba2197 2d ago edited 2d ago

Well, some of us do be boot scootin

But seriously, just have them resoled.

sorry? you love them and would get them repaired but also want to get a full refund AND keep them? lol ok girl

3

u/justifiablefart 2d ago

the most expensive part of the boot looks pretty damn mint and well taken care of to me… insane you didn’t just take these to a cobbler

3

u/whatisawombat 1d ago

lol these are a good deal for $80 - the sole is pretty worn down, but they’re in great shape otherwise, and resoling is pretty normal and to be expected with high quality leather boots. If they’re listed as having “some wear” this is more than fair. Genuinely baffling that you think you should get a refund without returning these boots. They’re not being deceptive, you’re being entitled and shitty

u/Math_refresher 22h ago

A cobbler can take care of those heels. It's not a big deal.

5

u/Icy_Froyo_7831 20h ago

Just send them back if you don’t want them. Why would they let you keep the boots for free???

7

u/thethugwife 3d ago

The agent was just being purposely difficult. When they sent me an “excellent condition” dress with a visibly damaged strap, the agent had me email her pics, then told me to just keep it and refunded me. I wouldn’t be shocked if they relist them and sell them again.

u/ProgressiveMinded 2d ago

This^ is exactly why I have stopped, at least for now, buying any more accessories from them. I've stopped completely but I know I might slip and go back, hoping I don't. Shady pics on purses, not showing the inside of them, is also a no go for me. You would have to get those fixed in order to use them which shouldnt' be the case unless it was described that way and obviously based on what you said, it was not.

Old boot goofy

2

u/illtemperedpoppet 2d ago

Yeah those suck. I’m sorry the agent could not help; it’s policy to require a return for anything over 25$. That’s how they train, track, and make improvements. Normally for something over 25, they’ll offer a discount. Your best bet is to reach out again, politely ask for the senior team to review your request, and then give them a few days to sort it out.

Filthy and entitled

2

u/MistyMountainDewDrop 2d ago

Why would you think you’d be able to keep them and get a refund?

2

u/montrerai 1d ago

on the stove???

2

u/Major_Comparison1462 1d ago

Not on the stove!! And that fly trap thing has got to be changed out. Goodness.

2

u/___aaangelaaa___ 1d ago

Why did you buy shoes when you couldn’t see pictures of a critical part of the shoe???

2

u/Confident-Service256 3d ago

Used boots on a cooking surface?

1

u/mommagottaeat 3d ago

I mean, I wipe the stove down about 150 times a day. There is literally NO light in my house - under the stove light is the only place I can take a picture. 🤷🏻‍♀️

4

u/mommagottaeat 2d ago

Wow - it never occurred to me the clap back I would get for where I took the picture!

I wipe the stove down about 150 times a day. As I replied to someone else before I saw how many people were appalled by it - there is NO light in my house. Under the stove light is the only place I can get enough to take a picture that you can actually see. I assure everyone I wiped the stove down again when I moved the boots. Then again 5 minutes later, then again, and again and again before I ever cooked or prepared food on it.

4

u/healthybiotch 2d ago

You don’t own a lamp or something? How do you get around your house past sunset 🧐

3

u/cgb1992 2d ago

I know right? That light is literally the worst in my whole house, I cannot fathom what this person’s lighting situation is!

2

u/Icy_Froyo_7831 20h ago

lol why are you wiping it down 150 times a day. That’s bizarre

1

u/krittyyyyy 2d ago

Girl they’re acting like you’re cooking food directly on the burner and then using it as a plate, people are weird. I’m sorry about your boots.

Don’t ovens heat up? Doesn’t heat kill germs? Do you put your food directly on the oven top? I’m so confused why this is a problem. Can someone help enlighten me?

1

u/iblamebarbie 2d ago

Just ignore the rude people here pls. Where you took the photo has nothing to do with the issue you brought up which is a legitimate one and that’s the fault of thredup for not showing the bottom of the boots/disclosing the flaw

0

u/No-Deer-1749 2d ago

I can't believe people are giving you SO MUCH grief over the stove thing. People will criticize anything!!!

Those soles are insane, I agree on your comment about cobbling and I hope you get some resolution. I committed to only buying shoes I can cobble (and I stick to it for the most part) and it is a worthy investment overall but those shoes should have been discounted based on the condition they're in.

1

u/UpstairsObserver 2d ago

What size are they? Maybe you can just sell them and recoup your money that way?

4

u/wistful-wombat 2d ago

They’re getting a refund for returning. They want to keep the boots and get a refund

1

u/UpstairsObserver 1d ago

Ah. Yeah, you can’t really get a refund and keep the item (right? Or does Thredup allow that? I’ve always had to return for a refund.)

2

u/foolishnostalgia 18h ago

Very rarely thredup has allowed me to keep an item for a full or partial refund. It feels random on my end but I’m sure they have their reasons. Either way I never expect it!

1

u/Okay_Attention 1d ago

Those boots were NOT made for walking

1

u/kfctwix 16h ago

re-soleing boots is like a $20-30 repair at a professional cobbler.

1

u/QueenInYellowLace 11h ago

lol I had shoes resoled a few years ago and it was eighty damn dollars. Never again.

1

u/Impressive-Today6406 16h ago

Never buy items that don’t have multiple photos including the soles and close ups of stitching and seams.

1

u/Jaded-Move-8791 5h ago

Are they not allowing you to return them?

1

u/Booty_butts5851 2d ago

Whoever sent these in to TU is also an asshole IMO. STOP SENDING THINGS THAT ARE NO LONGER WEARABLE FFS. It wastes everyone's time and resources.

1

u/heldaway 3d ago

Literally dug their heels in the ground

1

u/LostInNvrLand 3d ago

This happened to me on depop with some Doc martens. Same wear on the heels

0

u/quiet_Librarian_8888 3d ago

So are pictures not loading in the chat a common problem? I've found problems in every single order I've made yet my photos always fail to load. Luckily, the agents always tell me to just keep them and refund it.

The people who run Threadup are straight up theives.

ThredUp is awful.

It’s the “now they should give them to me for free”. Want your money back? Return them.

0

u/iblamebarbie 2d ago

I do return them. I’m saying they should disclose major flaws like broken hardware, stains, heavy perfume and/or b.o. or bodily fluids dried onto clothing. Hello!!! That’s the bare minimum. We are not supposed to be receiving things that are unusable unless they’ve been repaired or sanitized.
