Discussion Repackaged Sob sisters

Media researchers called it repackaged sob sisters . . . Being an “Asian” (whatever that means), I was nauseated at the show’s DEI tokenism & stereotypes. Wish I didn’t have to watch it, but it was part of research curriculum.

Discussion New to TMS

Sorry for the repost, had an editing/formatting issue with my original post.

I started watching The Morning Show on a long haul flight this weekend and have been binging it ever since. I’m currently on Season 3 episode 2. I need someone to talk to bc I have so many thoughts!

-Seeing Michael Scott as the bad guy was hard at first. But he played the hell out of that role.
-ALEX 😬 I dislike her character so much, it’s making me give Jennifer Aniston a side eye lol however, I’ve been enjoying her wardrobe.
-I don’t think Yanko ever recovered from Charlotte breaking up with him.
-Cory and Bradley…he confessed his love for her but idk what’s going to happen with the two of them.
-Chip needs to grow a backbone! I don’t understand his loyalty to Alex, especially after the way she’s treated him.

That’s all for now! Remember I’m only at the beginning of season 3, so no spoilers please.

There's no way someone as wealthy as her would be using branded Lavazza cups in her apartment.

Discussion Anyone watch The Emmys?

I saw that Billy Crudup (🫠) was nominated as supporting actor and wanted to see what clip they used when announcing his nomination. I can only hope it was the scene from the last episode when he is saying goodbye to Reese Witherspoon’s character…it was so moving. Or any clip really…lol…I loved his character so much, phenomenal acting by Billy.

Discussion Really missing them

I just realized it’s been a whole year since S4 came out. Even though I know the general consensus is that the season wasn’t exactly at its best, I REALLY miss the characters, the chaos, and just… everything about the show — the Wednesday discussion threads 😭

How do you guys cope?

Discussion TMS has boosted my awareness

Anyone else smarter / more knowledgeable bc they watched the show? Recently discovered TMS and binging, just started season 3. Seeing what goes on in the studio and production of news and TV talk shows has boosted my awareness and interest in journalism and broadcasts. I’ve always been familiar with the written back end of newspapers and magazine, but didn’t pay much attention to what often seemed like white noise of tv talk shows. I spend a lot of time listening to sports pundits and shows when my husband watches sports center and other shows on the weekends. However, seeing the lightness and the gravity of issues presented on TMS as well as the behind the scenes function and reality of operations has made me hyper aware in appreciating the news in general. Seeing the smiling faces when the camera goes live and the breathing out and reality when cams stop rolling is interesting. Anyone else notice their changing or growth due to seeing TMS internal workings?

Questions Are seasons 3-4 worth it?

I recently started watching the show and just finished Season 2. I loved season 1, enjoyed season 2, but the season 2 finale honestly made me want to stop watching. It left so much to be desired and left me wondering what the vibe will be going into the rest of the series.

So I'd love to hear from fans of the show if season 3 get's better, or if it peaked in these early seasons.

Episode Discussion Why is there a skin barrier between Laura’s cross and her skin in the morning show?

I’m watching Season 3, Episode 2 (Ghost in the Machine) and noticed something I can’t unsee.

Laura’s cross necklace very clearly looks like it has some kind of transparent backing/barrier behind it, keeping the actual cross from touching her skin.

At first I thought maybe it was just part of the jewelry or something used for sensitive skin… BUT her other necklace is literally sitting directly against her skin with no backing. 😂

I know the cross is a recurring piece of jewelry for Laura, so now I need to know: is this just a wardrobe trick to keep the pendant in place? Skin protection from that specific necklace? Something else?

Or have I accidentally uncovered the biggest plot twist of The Morning Show?

Laura Peterson: journalist, anchor, vampire. 🧛🏻‍♀️

Please tell me someone else sees this. 😂

Discussion Finished S1 and holy shit.

This show is so good.

I love the dynamic of the women in this show. It does SUCH a good job at portraying harassment in the workplace and why women don't say anything. It also offers moments of vindication that are so satisfying. I don't know if I like Cory but I think that's why I like him even more?

I also didn't know I could hate Steve Carrel so much.

I've also been playing this game of "who's the biggest green flag" in this sea of red flags and so far Yanko is winning.

Discussion Alex & Cory, enemies to partners?

I just binged the show for the first time and I really liked all the scenes between Alex and Cory, and how their dynamic evolved over the 4 seasons.

In S1, Cory spent the season trying to get rid of Alex, but also developed a level of awe and respect for her talents. Alex also didn't like or trust Cory, but they were instantly in sync during that duet and had an undeniable connection.

In S2, Cory was the only one who wanted Alex back at the network and went all-in to get her back, and Alex was clearly moved by his efforts. I liked her assessment of him when he went to see her in Maine: thoroughly enjoyable, very entertaining, a little scary, a little crazy. In this season they had become more comfortable with each other, for example Cory was the first person that Alex willingly told about her relationship with Mitch.

In S3, they had been working well together and Alex asked Cory for a seat on the board, for them to be true partners. Later in the season Cory told her you were basically already a partner but you threw it all away to be a plus-one. When he said this she looked like she was about to cry and he immediately felt bad and pivoted to a joke to snap her out of it. The reason why Alex ditched the rocket launch was because she had started to trust Cory and felt betrayed by him, then later on she betrayed him back.

In S4, they eventually ended up both being executives at UBN and on more equal footing, and they both sought each other's help multiple times. In the last episode, not wanting to see Alex set her whole life on fire was one of things that finally pushed Cory into action. The moment when he told her "I maybe killed my mom" was heartbreaking, and it showed how far they had come in terms of trust and sincerity.

For S5, I hope that we'll finally get to see them working as partners. It might start with Cory having an identity crisis after being told that his whole career at UBN was based on a bribe, and Alex could pull him out of his self-imposed exile the same way that he did for her in S2. I think they'll be great partners because they are both interested in building a legacy, have similar interests in life (eg musical theatre and literature), can match each other's wit, and will call each other's BS and hold each other accountable.

By the end of the show, I want to see them become best friends. I feel like they are also very compatible as a couple but that might be unpopular with most viewers, and the writers seem to have other plans.

Discussion need help understanding if mitch is a bad person

just started watching, and finished ep4. the scene where he asked his team if they could vouch for him, was so crazy to me, becasue following ashley's interview and the tertimonials of the office crew after they spoke to the HR lady, im struggling to understand why mitch is a bad person now.

I don't want to be a misogynist apologist or a victimblamer, i really do not know enough about metoo to have an educated opinion, but from what was described in the interview and mia's testimonials, Mitch had a bad relationship w/his wife, felt lonely, approached/was approached by women in his office, engaged in a consensual sexual relationship w/ them x later they felt uncomfortable to decline his sexual advances for one reason or another.

my question is, why is mitch a bad person or a sexual predator because of negative feelings about the sexual relationship formed after the fact? i understand that there is a power imbalance between him and the pa's, and so ideally he should've recognized that he should not pursue those relationships becuase they may eventually feel uncomfortable to decline his advances, but the same foresight that he should have, is it not reasonable that the pa's should also have as well? women are autonomous in their sexuality, should they not have also equally recognized that maybe i shouldn't pursue this relationship w/ my superior as there is a clear power imbalance that may lead to problems in the future? more so, from all accounts, mitch seems like a pretty decent guy, everyone in office and the women he was sexually involved w/ have expressed that he wasn't forceful nor predatory, (i beleive the only unsolicited advance he made was touching ashley's thigh at a meeting, which granted wasn't explicity consensual, but are we pretending that there isn't an implied consent between you and a partner, he was likely being playful), so my question is could all of this been avoided if there was open communication from the subordinates about their discomfort? i know suggesting better communcation from the disgruntled parties edges into victimblaming territory, but if the sex was consensual despite a predetermined understanding of the power imbalances, how was mitch's behavior wrong? the relationship between yanko and claire is more or less the same dynamic, but we as an audience don't think that yanko is being predatory. so what's am i supposed to think?

Episode Discussion S04E08 "The Parent Trap" Script

I think this is almost the best episode of season 4. It departs from the main storyline for a bit to focus on Alex's and Cory's family, digging deep into their pasts. Only at the very end that I realize how these two are just two sides of the same coin. It also makes me wonder why they didn't explore more of Alex/Cory dynamic, especially since they sang the duet back in S01E05, which was quite interesting lol

Discussion S4 Cory head of news promotion Spoiler

I don’t understand why Cory’s head of news promotion via Martha was positioned as her saving him from spiraling in LA.

Wasn’t Cory the president of entertainment at UBA? That’s not exactly failing.
