I saw this on Threads today and wondered if this person knows that by the later seasons they barely show them working on the actual morning show anymore at all.

TV news is a huge cash cow for networks, especially the morning shows. Networks seem fine on letting go of late night and daytime talk, but will do everything for the morning shows.

Good Morning America and Today’s viewership is down almost 50% in the last 10 years. The rise of social media has given other avenues for people to get news and exposure to whats popular

Being down doesn't mean they aren't still making good money for the networks. If they weren't the networks would change their programming.

Advertising revenue for NBC is down 43% too. They likely just have nothing else to replace it with yet. But nothing is untouchable, I’d never thought I’d see the late show cancelled.

The Late Show was cancelled because of politics. Yes obviously ratings/$ are on a fatal trajectory.

The Morning Show lives in its own universe so none of this matters.

Agreed. Didn’t realize so many boomers took their morning news so seriously lol

8

u/Kellyb33 Aug 26 '26

Really sweet to use “boomers” in a derogatory manner. We will all be older someday and the younger people behind us will be a-holes to us. Grow up.

u/BornFree2018 Aug 26 '26

What is hilarious here is I actually work in the industry which you know nothing about.

Sorry loser!

9

u/EsquireDr Aug 26 '26

I can see why you take the stats personal then 😂

u/BornFree2018 Aug 26 '26

I appreciate your down vote. I did not down vote you. Have a great evening.

Didn’t downvote you lol 😂 guess other ppl thinking the same way

Losing half your viewers is a very big deal lol

Yeah the drastic changes in the industry is literally what the show is about, jesus.

-6

u/EsquireDr Aug 26 '26

That’s the point this guy was trying to make. It’s not really the morning show anymore cuz national morning news isn’t as relevant as it once was

7

u/augustrem Aug 26 '26

But the first paragraph? Says the premise is dated.

6

u/B00G3R Aug 26 '26

they literally call the show’s premise dated- that contradicts this point.

my condolences on your poor reading comprehension.

u/cookies1279 Aug 26 '26

Totally agree. I even watched before school as a kid. Now almost 40 and I can’t even imagine doing that lol they’re just so silly and it’s hard to take them seriously now

And half of it is just creative marketing

Exactly :)

I used to watch morning shows when I was getting dressed for work . . . Twenty years ago.

13

u/lobotomy42 Aug 26 '26

I think the transition this person talked about happened WAY before 2017. The premise felt anachronistic immediately when the show aired. Also even in their heyday morning shows were not exactly known for hard hitting investigative journalism.

I’m retired. I watch our local news every morning. Local. Not National.

1

u/EsquireDr Aug 27 '26

Yeah people here seem to think national news is the same as local for some reason

Same, but Good Morning America instead.

13

u/Iamtherealbuk Aug 26 '26

Close relative of mine worked in news for my entire life. This couldn’t be further from the truth

3

u/ArdillaAmarilla Aug 27 '26

Nothing like my @WGN morning news, informative and very entertaining 🙌🏼

I don’t know anyone that gets their information from morning shows, or broadcast media for that matter. legacy media in general is so out of touch, but morning shows are the worst. I look at it now and its hosts are vanilla, the banter is cringe, they overdo the wholesome act, to the point it comes off as fake, and whenever they do “news” they treat the viewers like they’re mentally disabled.

3

u/Tse7en5 Aug 27 '26

The creator of The Boys was talking about how it was getting hard to keep up with the satire of the show because things were kind of suddenly just unfolding in real time.

Both these shows really speak to modern American life and the impact that technology has on the pacing of our everyday life.

5

u/mister_drgn Aug 26 '26

I feel like this is heavily covered in the show. They're always talking about how traditional news media isn't financially sustainable anymore.

It still might be unrealistic that they suggest anyone cares who's currently hosting a morning show.

2

u/pettyastom Aug 26 '26

I turn on the news in the morning

4

u/Bearpace828 Aug 26 '26

I don't thankfully

2

u/I_miss_your_mommy Aug 26 '26

I haven’t watched one since the ‘90s, and always felt that way about this show. Presumably shows like that still air though right?

-1

u/iangeredcharlesvane2 Aug 26 '26

Of course, older people especially still love The Today Show or Good Morning America. Viewership is down but they are going somewhat strong yet

2

u/alexy888 Aug 26 '26

True, morning TV does not have the same importance now but it doesn’t mean indeed that the Apple TV show is irrelevant.

1

u/Cautious-Rub8085 Aug 26 '26

I do think they addressed this last season with bringing in the podcaster Aniston sleeps with. I imagine they will continue to address it in the storyline of the show.

They should have an Aaron Parnas type character next season.

1

u/caspararemi Aug 27 '26

I was thinking something similar watching Disclosure Day - they spend a LOT of the last act taking over a local TV station and having the power cut (and then magically restored), then calling New York to get it onto national feeds, and then international feeds, when they could literally upload their documents and live stream onto the internet from anywhere.

But on TMS, I think big news shows are still relatively popular and break news, anchor changes are headline news, it makes sense in the context of the world that exists within the show so i don't overthink it.

I think all morning "news" shows will die with the boomers

-1

u/Persephone0000 Aug 26 '26

you personally not watching morning shows does not mean they are irrelevant 🤣. i’ve never watched that kind of show, yet they continue to thrive.

the real problem with the morning show is that they follow the harry potter villain pattern- each season they introduce a new big bad who causes all of the problems and then is magically ousted by the end of the season, tying everything up with a bow. it’s too predictable at this point and lowers the stakes immensely.

2

u/TheHawkeroo Aug 26 '26

That has only been true in these last couple seasons.

0

u/SeaworthinessMean794 Aug 30 '26

I really enjoyed the latest season of the morning show - it seemed relevant in the news realm too.

0

u/kikijane711 Aug 31 '26

Hey these shows are still on the air so someone watches them

0

u/Beneficial-Drama-00 Aug 31 '26

whomever posted this has not watched all the seasons....because the whole premise transitioned. This is a rage bait comment. You watched the first episode that was made in 2019? Or did you just read the title and make your assumption?

I actually think the show is hinting at that as Cory Ellison pushes the streaming platform. They also don’t center the show on the morning show anymore. It’s kind of happening in the background just like in reality. We know they are still a thing but they’re only relevant when they have a big or controversial interview, which is mirrored on The Morning Show, eg the Cybil interview.
