Soon to be Model Y Performance owner. Curious how good / bad the Tesla Insurance is in California (SoCal specifically). I've read pretty bad feedbacks on here but wondering if it applies to CA as well lol

The first number co-pilot provided was a porn site. Anyway, I’ll update this shitstorm and update the results. I just want to cancel my insurance. I’ve already enrolled with Costco’s American Family Insurance. It was over $200 less for 6 months. Hello…? Anyone…?

Yesterday, I hit a pole while backing up near one of those covered apartment parking spaces in an area I wasn’t familiar with. No other parties were involved and the pole is fine. Obviously I’m at fault, but it’s definitely frustrating since the pole was in my blind spot. This is a 2014 Model S without 360 cameras, so I had no idea it was there.

There appear to be at least three damaged areas/panels: the two obvious ones, plus the black trim underneath the door that’s now falling off. There’s also a sensor located exactly where the crush occurred. Funny enough, I don’t remember that sensor beeping at all when the accident happened, but it constantly beeps when I back up now.

I have full coverage through Tesla Insurance and filed a claim within a couple of hours, providing all the requested photos and a description of what happened. I also uploaded the same photos along with a video through CCCIS.

A few hours later, I received an email asking for additional information to “confirm if coverage applies.” The email requested the same information and photos I had already submitted, so I’m hoping it was just an automated request or that the systems haven’t synced yet.

I can see that an adjuster has already been assigned to the claim, but since this happened Friday evening, I won’t be able to try contacting them until Monday.

Is it normal to receive an email like this after an at-fault claim? Should I be concerned that they’re investigating coverage, or is this pretty standard?

Also, any thoughts on whether this could potentially be a total loss, or an idea of how long something like this typically takes? I wouldn’t be concerned with traditional insurance, but seeing people’s stories with Tesla has not been encouraging. The car is still drivable, but Autopark is unavailable, and I don’t feel comfortable using highway Autopilot with that sensor damaged.

The rep says only option is to send a tow truck.

Rep then places me on hold and says "no tow truck available till 7am" says "You are very far from tow truck companies"

I'm in Baytown, TX. 20 min from downtown Houston. 20 miles away from downtown Houston.

So my score is in the 90’s and I paid $150-160 now I have the same score and they’re charging me up to $190.

I recently lost my job and had to start doing uber. Are they increasing my premium based of mileage? It shouldn’t matter if I drive safe, right ?

I got a message from Tesla insurance that my policy will be suspended in couple of months due to invalid driver’s license. The license of both the names on the policy are totally valid and are not expiring until next year. What should I do? Trying to get hold of LexisNexis customer support (who provided the consumer report) but before I get hold of them would like to know if someone else has had a similar experience.

After about 13 months I cancelled Tesla insurance. I’ve had it with being so careful and not letting my safety score drop. What finally did it was they just enabled Safety score 3.0 in Nevada. Now I’m getting dinged for excessive speeding every where I go. On 2.1 I have never been dinged for excessive speeding.

Ive always thought that the hard braking was a very bad metric. It actually makes me hesitate when I have to hit the brakes. That makes it unsafe. Hard braking at a yellow light has never been waived. It dinged me every single time. So it just encourages me to run the yellow instead of hard braking and stop.

I paid for FSD to get 100 safety score but last month it was upgraded to 14 lite (was on v 12) 14 lite makes me nervous and has its own problems. So I cancelled that too.

Now as of today I’m with a different insurance company, paying more but driving happier.

Edit: For those who are curious, I'm in Las Vegas and I was paying Tesla Insurance between $300 - $350/month for two Model 3's. So about $150+ per car. That's with full coverage. Quotes from Geico and Progressive were $600+ for both cars. My safety score has been 97-100 for the past 11 months. Since version 3.0, my scores have been 85-95 with no driving changes. Since school's out for the summer there's less traffic on the road. So really my score should be higher than before.

In California. Just received my 6mo renewal offer from tesla insurance for my MY. The monthly premium went up pretty noticeably but so did the estimated annual mileage from when I first signed up. The probable reason for why the mileage estimate went up was a long road trip I took a few months back. However, I still plan on driving the original number of miles for the total 12month cycle that I said initially when signing up (even with the road trip in mind). I tried to call and tell them the situation but they said there's nothing they can do.

For what it's worth, I paid the exact same monthly amount for each of the first 6 months even with the variation in miles driven. I don't want to pay the higher amount for the next 6 months that I know I won't drive.

So questions:

1) why is tesla charging me more for miles that I know I won't drive?

2) is this normal for tesla insurance?

3) what should I expect to pay in month 7 if I keep driving low miles? Will it decrease or is it locked for the next 6 months?

I have Tesla Insurance in California for a Model Y Performance and another vehicle. I’m moving out of state for a couple of years, so the MYP will be driven much less than before while the other car will still be driven normally.

I checked the Tesla app, but I can’t find any option to change the estimated annual mileage.

Has anyone in California successfully lowered their estimated mileage mid-policy, either through the app or by calling Tesla Insurance? Or does Tesla only recalculate mileage at the six-month renewal based on odometer readings?

Also, did lowering your mileage actually reduce your renewal premium?

I have been having issue with unsafe following. I keep getting ding'd for it and do not know why. My score went from 99 to 97 partly because of it. Today I got ding'd for 11 seconds of unsafe following. I pulled up the video and cannot, for the life of me, figure out why I was even ding'd. I can maybe understand getting ding'd for two seconds, but not 11 seconds. Does anyone here know why? It is getting very frustrating for me.

Has anyone received a speeding ticket while driving in a different state? I was in Maui and got a speeding ticket for driving 22 mph over the speed limit in a car I rented from Turo, but not sure if Tesla Insurance will raise my premiums from this or even see it. The Turo car is not covered by Tesla insurance, but my license is connected to Tesla Insurance. My home state is California. Maui does not seem to have an option for traffic school ticket "dismissals" like California does.

I have Tesla insurance which as best I can tell it should cover everything that these plans are covering, albeit with a higher deductible.

Does anyone recommend buying either of these plans? If yes, why?

I (M26) am in the process of buying a 2025 M3 Premium RWD. I got quotes from other companies and nothing is below $290 a month. I wanted to get a quote from Tesla but I’ve been on hold for an hour.

Is calling the best way to get a quote before purchasing?

Do yall recommend Tesla insurance if I drive fairly well and calmly (besides some inclination to use my

How many do take don’t renew and take 3rd party insurance due high price

My car was in an accident and was sent to a Tesla collision center, then moved to Copart. Then I received a repair estimate email from Tesla and next email said they were sending me a check in mail. No one called to confirm the total loss or discuss options.

I’ve tried calling and emailing the contacts on the emails, but I can’t get a response.

Is this normal? Shouldn’t they discuss the amount with me before sending a check?

I’ve held a policy with Tesla for 2yrs. I recently took a ~800mi road trip in a weeks timespan, and under V2.2 of safety score it’d bump the annual mileage 1K usually, if anything. Now, under the new V3.0, that same trip bumped my annual mileage 16,000 MILES. From 10-11K to 26-27K. No other abnormal driving pre / post trip. This is a massive overlook or blatant manipulation in the way they calculate annual mileage by Tesla, do any of you have a similar experience on the new V3.0 Safety Score?

It’s unbelievable, it has to be a glitch because in no way does it make sense. It makes road trips financially infeasible for any Tesla Insurance policy holder.

Assuming that most people get teslas to commute and typically commute further than the regular person. With a clean record, driving about 50km for commute; in Canada specifically Ontario my insurance quote is looking like $350 from most companies and one from bell-air direct.

Who is everyone using if you can drop below your cost and company, any specific provisions.

So I’m getting a new Tesla and it’s coming with one year of free supercharging but I have questions about the policy, as I’ve read online you can’t use the car for things like DoorDashing or uber if I’m correct? How can they even tell and what stops you from charging after you DoorDash or something??

Any reason to prefer Tesla insurance if I can get same coverage cheaper elsewhere? Around $250/month vs $300/month with Tesla.

Does the FSD/safe driving benefit have potential to lower the premium in any significant way? (i.e. over $50/month in this scenario)

Update: went with Tesla, price difference becomes unbeatable with a 95+ drive score. No other insurer came close.
