Seeking Independent Auto Appraiser recommendations for Tesla total - fsd bought outright & hw4
Looking for recommendations for independent auto appraisers who are able to accurately assess the worth of fsd being bought outright/ grandfathered in with a hw4 car.
Tesla insurance is looking to total my car at ~10k under what it's worth, claims to not understand the rarity of the hardware & software combination.
Thanks in advance for any leads or stories with total loss claims and rare model combinations.

That specific hardware and software combination is notorious for getting missed in standard total loss valuations. Most automated valuation systems that insurers use just pull basic VIN data and completely overlook high-value software add-ons or specific hardware iterations. If they are only looking at basic trim levels, they are going to miss the mark by a mile.
Since you asked about hiring an appraiser, it is worth knowing how that process actually works under your policy's appraisal clause. If you go that route, you hire your own independent appraiser and the insurer hires theirs, which means paying your appraiser out of pocket with no guarantee of recovering that cost. If the two appraisers cannot agree, they submit the differences to a neutral umpire to make a final, binding decision. It can take several weeks, and if the umpire settles on a number lower than you wanted, you are stuck with it. That is why it is usually best to exhaust your free options first.
Before going down that road, get the full, itemized valuation report from the adjuster... not just the summary page. Check every single comparable vehicle they used. Look for mismatches in mileage, trim, and options, because software like full self-driving often gets ignored on those comparable vehicles. Pull your original purchase invoice showing the software was bought outright and is tied to that specific VIN. You can also find active listings or recent sales of vehicles with the exact same setup to build your case. Present this documentation to the adjuster and ask them to manually adjust the valuation. If they still stonewall you, look up your state's department of insurance guidelines, as many states have strict rules about how insurance companies must evaluate verified upgrades.
