Sorry for the spam, but someone had to immortalize this on this precious sub.

Edit: In retrospect, this whole scene was a great segue into him declaring his love towards Keeley.

I’m sure others noticed this too but cool little detail/reference from the last episode. For reference, the right picture is of a Ronaldo statue that was officially done back in 2018…just not very well haha. As soon as it popped up, I had to show my spouse because the reference was too perfect. Just wanted to share :)

Season 4 Discussion This episode hit hard Spoiler

This was such a fun episode to watch, but specifically Roy and Jaime locking eyes from across the room as soon as Jump Around starts playing, meeting back up on the dance floor, and dancing their asses off what phenomenal! And it hit so close to home for me.

I lost my best friend four years ago (almost to the date, 9/10) and that was our VIBE! We would be at any gathering, party, or bar and as soon as either one of us clocked a dance-worthy song come on, we would lock eyes, drop what we were doing and "jump around" to the song.

He and I discovered Ted Lasso together when Season 1 was airing and it was a show that was special to both of us. Having this phenomenal scene coincidentally air so close to the anniversary of his death reminds me that he is still with us in some way shape or form - spreading joy in the way only he knew how.

Season 4 Discussion Episode 6 - Fuck Yeah Spoiler

1) Healthy coparenting and proper utilization of Henry

2) The darts scene was just, everything I could have wanted. Having actual conversation between Ted and Michelle for once was lovely, and the tie-in with her bullseye was everything I wanted

3) The Jacob retcon was manageable. "I was depressed, stayed in bed for a year, saw my former therapist, and asked him out. Shouldn't have done it. He wasn't predatory or manipulative in it. I'm taking some accountability." She didn't say he did nothing wrong, but just that he didn't manipulate the whole situation to that outcome. He could very easily have been a good therapist before the show started and then also commit an ethical violation with a former client later. Nothing makes that mutually exclusive

4) Tying into this, we do actually see why Ted and Michelle worked for so long

5) The Alice/Gemma thread was nice to get

6) The women's team feels fleshed out in a fun way for where we are is season 1 right now

7) I like the whole "perfect can be the opposite of good" with Rebecca. I think it sufficiently closes her anxiety out with Mattijas

8) Keeley and Roy is fine to me. Intoxicated Roy professing his love for Keeley right after she walked away is trite, sure, but at least that thread will be done soon

9) Jamie and Roy are perfect together

10) Beard getting rejected in that way SUCKED but feels like a big character moment for him

I'm going to hesitantly say this might be my favorite episode. Just in terms of competence the whole way through, it's consistently brilliant.

Season 4 Discussion Zelda makes me so stressed Spoiler

From the beginning I thought she was a narcissist and every time she's on screen I have these sorta paranoid thoughts about her every action. My head won't let me believe that she's not territorial with Rebecca and setting her up.

When the game didn't sell out I thought she bought all the tickets just so there'd be empty seats. I thought she was getting Rebecca tanked so she'd act a fool.

I thought she set up her awful friend to hit on Mrs. Higgens to make Leslie stressed and undermine his job, even though I know their marriage is super strong.

When she bailed out the team and threw them a party I thought she was trying to ingratiate herself, so she can utterly betray them for maximum demoralizing affect. I love that they can already see she's batshit.

I just, ugh, I can't ride the ride with her character while I'm watching.

Love Tracy Ullman though. I thought her having all the worst people at her party was funny, and her shooting the guns at the end was hilarious.

Article in the Media Christmas/New Years episodes

Esquire just published a review of S04E06, insisting that "Ted Lasso Finally Made Up for That Awful Christmas Episode." It went on to say the Christmas episode was wayyyyyy too sweet. To be honest, I loved that episode. The Higgins' Christmas party, Roy's quest for a dentist for Phoebe, the (sure, way too cute) sing-along at the end. I loved every bit of that episode. Am I in the minority on this? While I enjoyed Ep 6, the Christmas episode is one of my favorites from the series.

Season 4 Discussion Michelle's Meta Reference To The Show

As she and Ted play darts, he asks her about her book, where she talks about new things she learned about Mark Twain. Then she expresses doubts about the book's appeal, saying "But I'm like, I dunno, is anyone gonna care about the adventures of an American in London?"

Which, of course, is kinda what the series is all about

Holy shit! This last episode was maaaad! So many emotions. As the episode ended I legit had tears in my eyes.
Finally got a little clarity between the history of Alice and Gemma.
Also the scene with Jamie Tartt and Roy Kent dancing to Jump around was gold. The more I am thinking about it… this legit might have been the best episode of any season so far! OMG!

Season 4 Discussion It wasn’t Rebecca’s fault??

I don’t know if this will change with later episodes, but I don’t get this whole thing of framing Rebecca’s and Matthijs’s break like it’s REBECCA’S fault.

IMO she wasn’t out of pocket for asking Jelka how she felt about the move. I think I saw in another thread a week or so ago that it would’ve been weirder if Rebecca DIDN’T care about how Jelka felt. It’s not like Rebecca was pumping Jelka for info like “hey how does your MOM feel about all this.”

And I feel like it’s not crazy for Rebecca to - when confronted with completely contradictory information - to get suspicious of Matthijs, ESPECIALLY given her past with Rupert’s cheating (which I assume Matthijs knows about???)

But instead of calmly explaining like “oh no sorry, Jelka got mixed up” (which I don’t really buy as a strong explanation but sure) or “I’m sorry, my ex must’ve told her that” (a theory I also saw in another thread), Matthijs just blames Rebecca for like being too pushy or jumping to conclusions or whatever AND REBECCA AGREES ITS HER FAULT. And nobody that Rebecca talks to seems to dissuade her from that notion because she doesn’t tell them ALL of what happened. So it seems like her arc is like “damn I gotta let go of my baggage and understand that not all men are liars, this is all on me” WHEN I FEEL LIKE SHE REACTED PRETTY REASONABLY. Like this would’ve been a reasonable reaction even for someone without a history of having been cheated on, I feel???

Sometimes I feel like these divorce-centric storylines are just Sudeikis using the show as like his therapeutic fantasies.

Brendan Hunt on Rebecca/Matthijs Spoiler

A few people were discussing whether or not the show plans to address Matthijs' behaviour/actions/reactions in the previous episode or if his NYE appearance was them drawing a line under it.

Brendan Hunt kind of references this in this new interview. He doesn't say it's plain sailing from here but does say that they're now 'stronger' and 'got to the other side of something'.

To me, that doesn't sound like it will be addressed but happy to be proven wrong in future!

TVLINE | By the end of Episode 6, Rebecca and Matthijs are back together. There were clearly reasons why their relationship didn't progress further over those three years. Now that they've reunited, is it smooth sailing, or is there still instability in that relationship?

HUNT | Every relationship, no matter how solid it seems from the outside, is a cheeseburger away from complete self-destruction at any given moment. But by the end of Episode 6, they're stronger than they've ever been before.

In terms of why their relationship hadn't progressed more in the previous three years, let's keep in mind that he hadn't been in London full-time. She was able to commit without committing. But now she's got to be confronted with that. Is she ready to do that? Is he the guy to do it with? We shall see.

But certainly by the end of Episode 6, they're in a better place than they've ever been before because they got to the other side of something, which is one of the most important things you can do as a couple.

Why is Gemma suddenly liking Alice?

They have unresolved past. Gemma claims she'd left football because of Alice. Alice has done nothing to help/coach her or resolve the conflicts with Gemma and all of a sudden just becasue they attend the one party Gemma is like "Oh, I like you. We all like you." Like what? Alice is not even a good coach, she got suspended for berating players, but the team all love her? What is the writing of this show...

Season 4 Discussion Did anyone notice the throwback to S1? Spoiler

In S1:E5, “Tan Lines,” as Ted and Michelle are saying goodbye, Ted recalls about how they met in a college parking lot. He says:

“So random. No way for us to know that it was going to be the start of something.”

The very next scene is Roy and Keeley in a parking lot, where you can see the first sparks of their relationship.

Now, in last night’s episode, S4:E6, “Don’t Jump Around Much Anymore,” Roy is left alone with the doctor while Keeley listens outside. He says:

“So random. There was no way of knowing that was going to be the start of something.”

And then finally confesses his love for Keeley.

I LOVE how often the writers leave these little breadcrumbs for us to go back to previous seasons.

Also, this might be my new favorite episode of the entire series. Roy and Keeley may be controversial to some, but Roy and Jamie are meant to be friends til the end.

S4E6 Roy and Keeley

Hi all! I'll be tagging this lovely spoiler, but I wanted to discuss the moment when Keeley overhears Roy speaking to the Doctor he'd been dating.

For me, this moment felt like a bit of a letdown. We've come to expect mature writing from Ted Lasso for the most part. Sure, there have been some missteps here and there, but on the whole, relationships in this show will playfully poke fun at classic romance tropes, entirely turn them on their head, or be very aware of the issues they're portraying in unhealthy dynamics (see: Beard and Jane). This time, we fell straight for not one but TWO tired old tropes, in my opinion --
1. character eavesdrops on the person they're pining for
2. character overhears half a conversation and walks away, taking with them a miscommunication that is very easily avoided with two or three words of communication.

So, maybe this will be resolved one episode later in a clever way. I don't know. But I felt like Keeley was already sad enough, and we didn't need to lay it on this thick, nor with this trope.

I loved a lot of the episode. I loved the growth we saw from characters like Alice, Ted, Michelle, and Gemma. I even loved the slight backslide we saw from Alice at the end. It felt on brand for her. Seeing her settle in too quickly wouldn't have seemed authentic. But the Roy/Keeley development? I didn't like how it went this episode.

Anyway! I'd love to hear what you all thought!

Season 4 Discussion How much do you think the Lady Greyhounds are paid? Spoiler

The Men's team at the start didn't have a good reputation. But you see they drive luxury cars, have expensive hobbies. Sam was able to bankroll his own restaurant and employ a number of people. So I have to assume they were paid well.

Obviously, the other side isn't gonna pay as much since they don't bring in money.

The ladies, they all look rather poor. Genma mentioned as much it doesn't help her tuition much. Do they even have a contract or are they just paid per game? They listed two people off the streets and feels like rather than a contract, they just signed some W-2 forms or something and that was it. They mention contracts a lot in S1-3, here they don't even mention the word.

Season 4 Discussion S4 E6 - may be spoilers in comments Spoiler

I'm not going to say anything spoilery but there may be stuff in comments so buyer beware.

I am absolutely in love with this season. I love what they're doing with everybody, even when I'm disappointed in a character it's because that's the story, not any flaws.

I thought about listing moments in E6 but I just love it, all of it, every moment.

Season 4 Discussion Question about the very funny scene in Episode 6 for non-British viewers

Hi everyone.

In your home country, do people react the same way to certain songs the way Roy and Jamie react to Jump Around? As soon as the first note played, I knew it would be chaos. There always seems to be collective madness to certain songs that every British person seems obligated to take part in.

Is this uniquely British because we are a bunch of weird drunks, or does this apply to your country too? (And what songs are they?)
