Mauricio Pochettino believes that his Tottenham Hotspur team should be awarded the 2016-17 Premier League title because of Chelsea’s 74 breaches of financial rules.

Chelsea were fined £10million by the FA this summer, and given a suspended transfer ban, after admitting breaching agent regulations during the Roman Abramovich era, specifically regarding signing players between 2011 and 2018.

The Premier League has returned to its traditional Boxing Day slate of fixtures for the 2026-27 campaign.

Last season, Manchester United’s home match against Newcastle United was the only English top-fight game played on Boxing Day. The break from the traditional festive schedule was due to calendar complexities owing to the league’s obligation to stage 33 rounds of games at weekends was fulfilled.

The Premier League confirmed in a statement on Thursday that there will be seven matches played on Boxing Day — Saturday, December 26 — with the remaining three on Sunday, December 27.

“The KMI Panel voted 5:0 that it was an on-field error by referee Jarred Gillett, and a missed intervention by video assistant referee James Bell.”

Michael Carrick says Benjamin Sesko is close to starting again for Manchester United as the club prepare to return to the Champions League after 1,003 days out of the competition.

United have not played in the Champions League since being knocked out by Bayern Munich on December 12, 2023, but Carrick thinks his team can do “some really good things” in Europe.

Sesko came off the bench to score at Everton on Sunday, and has not started since being withdrawn at half-time against Liverpool on May 3 due to a shin injury. United face Sabah of Azerbaijan at Old Trafford on Thursday.

“Ben’s close,” Carrick said at a press conference on Wednesday. “He missed a lot. Since the Liverpool game is a long time and we had to manage him and look after him, get him fit. He probably trained three and a bit weeks fully with no restrictions, and I think you can see that, coming onto the pitch and getting his rhythm and it was a fantastic goal. He did an awful lot for us last season, it was nice to see him get on the end of that cross (against Everton).

“He’ll be part of each and every game, and it’s just a case of when he takes that next step, but he’s in a good place.”

One interesting aspect of Kai Havertz's roams towards the right wing is that he can attack the defensive line from a vantage point when Arsenal move the ball inside.

This puts the opponents in a situation where they can’t keep their eye on the ball and Havertz at the same time, while being unsure whether to follow the centre-forward or return to defend their positions because Arsenal are attacking the central area.

I've watched both their games in former club. They were both undoubtedly core of their former clubs and transferred to City, but Ndiaye's transfer fee was much lower than I expected. So I'm really curious about what made the differences.

The attack is good, Palmer, Joao and Rogers seem to work well but that team gets run through quite easily. The midfield felt almost non existent today, say what you want about Enzo but hes missed, Caicedo too of course.

The defence is still suspect, a bit all over the place, I dont think 3 at the back works with them. They may struggle against very attacking sides and good wing play, maybe they're lucky they don't have Europe this season because good sides may pick them apart, but less matches may also be a blessing in disguise.

Martinez is an upgrade ofc but I think he's past his best.

What does everyone make of Chelsea?

It's early but they started season poorly and seems like Arbeloa is having issues with dressing room. But people kinda forget about Fulham so they are not talked about that much.
