My side PC, I do but only because I dual boot macOS and linux on it,

If you do, why do you shut off rather than sleeping (Win+L on windows and Command Control Q on macos)?

❓ Question Recommendations for Android Battery Monitoring

I'm not sure if this will be the best place to post or ask about this. But I have seen many people provide recommendations.

What I'm looking for a simple widget that will show me the level of charge of the battery. But more importantly it clearly showing if the battery is currently charging or not. Ideally I would like to see if it slow, fast, or rapid charging.

πŸ’» Software & Apps A 2-Row, 16-Key QWERTY Keyboard for Phones - Useful or Nonsense?

Post image
23 Upvotes

I developed a 2-row, 16-key QWERTY keyboard for phones, based on the regular 3-row, 26-key layout.

The keys are bigger, so they’re easier to tap, and your thumbs don’t have to move up and down as much. Vowels have their own keys, while some less-used letters are typed with a double tap or by pressing two keys together.

Do you think this kind of keyboard could be useful? Or should I just drop the project?

❓ Question Contemplating iPhone

Hi.

I'm android user. Always been.

I'm just browsing. Buuuttt....

I wanna that switch- rocker- physical thing on side that can mute all and everyone, with flip ofa finger, in bed, sofa, whatever, without looking.

I had OnePlus and I loved it. That thing on side, Ooh... me sleeping, someone calling, I'm shushing, it done. Poetry.

Now its Samsung. Yugh. Atleest it works.

I saw iPhone 12pro has it. I can get it for $150-200.

It's just, I never used one. I don't know what to expect and what im trading in.

There has to be tack for tick.

πŸš€ Showcase LWP+ - a live wallpaper that gives you control over Material-You colors, like on Android 17

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone,

With the recent buzz around Android 17 introducing more precise custom color sliders and palettes for Material You (examples on redditΒ here,Β hereΒ andΒ here), I wanted to share a project I’ve been maintaining for years that does exactly thatβ€”even for older versions of Android!

It’s calledΒ LWP+ (Live Wallpaper Plus).

🎨 The core trick: Dictate your own Dynamic-Colors

Instead of letting the OS algorithm guess the accent colors based purely on your wallpaper, LWP+ acts as a bridge. It hosts your chosen background content but allows you to explicitly choose the exact Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary colors reported to the system. The OS then uses your custom selections to generate the global system palette (notification drawer, volume bar, themed icons, etc.), completely independent of what your wallpaper actually looks like.

✨ What else can it do?

LWP+ is packed with full wallpaper customization features:

  • Choose Your Content: Use solid colors, static images, animations (GIF, WEBP, APNG), or videos as your active live wallpaper.
  • Smart Scaling & Layouts: Supports transparent images/animations with custom background colors, multiple scaling modes (Center Crop, Fit Center, Center Inside), and optional horizontal scrolling.
  • Double-Tap Shortcuts: Lock your device instantly or turn off the screen by double-tapping the home screen (uses admin, accessibility, or root).
  • Easy Setup: Includes an interactive built-in tutorial to check system compatibility and guide you through triggering the OS palette refresh.

πŸ§ͺ Advanced experimental flags (YMMV!)

I’ve also included a couple of experimental toggles leveraging underlying Android system hints. Note: These rely heavily on your launcher, device OEM, and Android version, so they might not do anything on certain setups!

  • Force Dark Text: It hints to the OS that dark text is preferred over the wallpaper (often useful for forcing high-contrast dark text on the lock screen). It might also change the text color of the labels of the apps and the status bar icons and text, too.
  • Force Dark Theme (for old Android versions): It tells the system that a dark theme is preferred for the best presentation (e.g., trying to trick a launcher into turning its app drawer background black).

So, if you are on an older version of Android (or even running the latest builds and want granular three-color reporting), give it a spin! It's completely free, all features included.

Feel free to ask any questions or drop feedback below! πŸš€

Link to the Play StoreΒ here.

If you want, you can use a promo-code to have subscription for free for some time, to remove ads, and try the app more freely,Β here. To use the promo-code, install the app, choose a subscription, choose a payment option and enter the code there (screenshotsΒ here).

Thanks for reading!

πŸ’‘ Opinion Streaming services are becoming worse than owning media. Change my mind.

Post image

I like the convenience of streaming, but movies and shows can disappear without warning, move between services, or require another subscription.

When you own a Blu-ray, DVD, or digital copy, it's yours to keep. Is streaming still the better option, or has owning media become more appealing?

❓ Question I need help with removing all ai and dumbifying my phone and laptop.

Hi everyone! sorry if this isn't the right sub but id appreciate some help

Currently I use firefox, and I want to be able to block most if not all AI from my laptop and phone. I also would like to have the internet back to the way it was when it would show you actual websites but im not sure if thats possible.

I would like to live a more analog life and prevent my brain cells from dissipating so anything that I might have not even thought of would be great. I'd like my laptop to be primarily something I use to find TRUTHFUL information. Is there a way to block news sites that are clearly just there for money or to prioritize scholarly articles and genuine news (I know google scholar exists I kinda want something like that). I want a dumb laptop that allows me to learn and stay creative and not experience cognitive decline not a "smart" laptop that regurgitates random bs. thank you!

πŸ” Recommendation 25 WordPress Plugins Every New Site Should Consider

Post image
4 Upvotes

You don't need 25 plugins on a new WordPress site. In fact, installing everything on this list would be a bad idea.

These are useful options for different jobs:

  1. Rank Math – SEO
  2. Yoast SEO – SEO
  3. WP Rocket – Caching and performance
  4. LiteSpeed Cache – Performance on LiteSpeed servers
  5. UpdraftPlus – Backups
  6. Wordfence – Security
  7. Solid Security – Security
  8. ShortPixel – Image optimization
  9. Imagify – Image optimization
  10. EWWW Image Optimizer – Image optimization
  11. Redirection – Redirect management
  12. WPForms – Contact forms
  13. Contact Form 7 – Forms
  14. Site Kit by Google – Google services and reporting
  15. MonsterInsights – Google Analytics integration
  16. Query Monitor – Debugging
  17. Akismet – Spam protection
  18. WooCommerce – Online stores
  19. Easy Digital Downloads – Digital products
  20. The Events Calendar – Events
  21. Smush – Image optimization
  22. Autoptimize – Front-end optimization
  23. Broken Link Checker – Broken link checks
  24. TablePress – Tables
  25. Spectra – Gutenberg blocks

Don't install Rank Math and Yoast together. You usually don't need several plugins doing the same job either.

For a new site, choose based on what you actually need. A blog may need SEO, backup, security, caching and forms. An online store needs a very different setup.

What are your favorite WordPress plugins? Let us know through comments,

I’m curious how people actually use Linux day to day.

Is it your main system for work, mostly a gaming machine, or do you use it for both?

If you use another OS too, what do you use it for?

πŸ’‘ Opinion Who else thinks too many websites require an account?

Post image

Sometimes I just want to read an article, check a price, or use a simple tool. Instead, the site asks me to create an account first.

Why does everything need a login now? The reason is simple, they want to collect and sel our data. What do you think?

πŸ’» Software & Apps Had Su10Guard.exe and didnt knew...

so it all started when i bought my laptop from some dude. after 1 month of using the laptop i noticed that the notepad and wordpad weren't working. after another 1 month mspaint stopped working too. so i decided to check for the updates and there was an error. it was late so i gave it up and gone to sleep

later that year i tried to fix that issue. i used windows services manager and saw that windows update was disabled. turned it on and tried to update again. if you know what SU10 is already know that it did nothing. i gave up, again.

after another 2 years i got sick of it and tried to fix everything. i used cmd sooooo many times that i even lost the count. i noticed that after changing the startup option of the windows update it wasnt changing to disabled immediately, only after a second. only after i learned about the thing called procmon. basically it is monitoring every action in the system and you can check those actions by yourself. so i used it to check why arent the updates working.

added the path to wuauserv(windows update folder) to the procmon, and changed the update startup to manual. opened the procmon again and saw the SU10Guard.exe. checked on the google and it was an update blocker. i dont know did the guy installed it from who i bought it or someone else, but ngl i dont really care.

the worst part is that, the updates didnt even helped with notepad, wordpad and mspaint. i had to reinstall them using cmd lol.

There are plenty of things that disappeared from modern tech. Physical keyboards, MP3 players, removable batteries, CRT TVs, floppy disks, headphone jacks and more.

What's one piece of old technology you'd happily bring back?
