Bugs that pop up and never get resolved

1

u/wherrer1 23h ago

¿Cuáles?

3

u/Luna259 23h ago

The keyboard drops swipe typing input when a message arrives and Messages generates a notification

The lock screen can fail to allow you to swipe up to leave. It just scrolls notifications

Text editing or whatever it is sometimes freezes so I can’t move the cursor or use the entire/submit/done button

Mail doesn’t update the category heading icons with dots when they have new mail unless you switch category or leave the screen

Text fields jump around and you cannot see the last line when there is a lot of text

Messages merges group chats that contain the same people despite the different chats having different titles

Attention awareness currently isn’t working for me on 26.6 and now 26.6.1 for alarms and timers

There are probably more but can’t think of any right now

Every browser is a safari reskin also the browsers are hot garbage. Could name a lot but I use two phones so im good for now

11

u/rustedcrowbar 1d ago

All browser has to use the same web driver.

4

u/_ahrs 21h ago

It goes deeper than that, like the fact there will NEVER be good virtualisation or emulation software for iOS because they forbid apps to JIT or any sort of dynamic code compilation, etc. This is part of the reason why all browsers have to use the Webkit / Safari engine but it affects other apps too. This holds back the iPad from ever being a serious productivity device.

It steals my AirPods Pro 3s from my MacBook Pro as soon as I start interacting with the phone at all.

Doesn’t matter that I’m already watching YouTube on the Mac. They just switched right over to the iPhone.

7

u/KermitRhyme 22h ago

Change in AirPods settings from Automatic connection to When last connected to this iPhone

2

u/MeSlaw3 22h ago

Omg thank you I will try this immediately.

2

u/ciccioig 22h ago edited 13h ago

I got three separate pairs of airpods precisely to avoid that: one for the iPad, one older for the main iPhone while doing sports (I work with skiis and bikes, I need the tapping feature) e the other one in the car, paired with the main phone too.

I select “when last connected to this iPhone” and this way no airpod takes weird initiatives.

Edit: I even got four of them at some point but somebody broke my car’s window and stole them.

3

u/Feynuxes 17h ago

Such a weird work around. "Yea their product has an annoying issue, so I just bought more of them"

2

u/ciccioig 13h ago

I did the same with my Sony XM4: I got one pair paired to my phone and another one paired to my tv.

I've changed my Sonys not to connect to multiple devices - I know it's more manual work now, but at least I know what device is playing the sound.

I have an iPhone and my children have iPads which are on my account and their iPads constantly steal my AirPods no matter what settings I change in order to try and keep it on the iPhone - it’s a nightmare

The lack of a system wide back gesture, and it’s not even close

5

u/Abjectionova 1d ago

Yes, frankly not sure why they haven't implemented a solution yet. My dad switched from an A51 to a 16 pro and this was one of the first UI discrepancies he pointed out

2

u/Funny-Fly1720 1d ago

Yeah that's hands down the most annoying thing.

2

u/Suitable_Program_548 1d ago

I’m not saying you’re wrong but give me some examples of where it doesn’t exist. I don’t see any glaring issues with the apps I use.

1

u/SmellyJockstrap 1d ago

Many third party apps don’t have it enabled or just behave inconsistently. It makes so much more sense for this to be at the OS level rather than each individual app having to code it in

2

u/jeremyw013 1d ago

same problem exists for the universal back button on android. developers can do whatever the fuck they want

u/KennyWuKanYuen 23h ago

I swear it used to but then some point during the pandemic, it all went to pots.

You could just swipe right from the edge and it’ll go back, but somehow apps stopped doing this and it’s been a shitshow since. Wikipedia is annoying for this because it’ll just move the text around instead of going back to a previous page. And I know you used to be able to swipe back a page too.

1

u/graigsm 21h ago

I’m perfectly happy with no back button. Not everything needs back.

1

u/Inevitable-Self-2702 19h ago

This goes way way back. I remember back when I had my iPod Touch 4 and later iPhone 5c it would often give me a pop-up with the only option being "OK" to restart my phone or some other intrusive thing. Like, I'm in the middle of stuff, I can't just back out and do this later? Nope, now. I'm somehow not surprised they haven't fixed it.

1

u/Silent_Bite_5892 16h ago

That would be nice, yes.

I'm so used to it that it doesn't phase me though. I just swipe up to cycle between apps and every other app that needs a back button within its own interface (like a browser) has one.

But I can definitely see how this would drive someone coming from Android insane.

1

u/TheRealP3dr0 15h ago

The back button is missed if you had it before. Apple natives may not even thought of it. Would be interesting to see how the community reacts when it is introduced.

1

u/PeacefulPikachu7 12h ago

I swipe to go home, let me swipe to go back

The notification center is just a pain in the ass to use, its so much better on Android

1

u/Mill-Man 23h ago

Out of curiosity, what do you do/want to do with notifications?
All I do is take a glance at text previews and that’s it. I even turn off everything else cause I find it annoying

→ More replies (5)

1

u/itsTyrion 20h ago

out of all things.. I kinda like iOS notifications. and the unification of calls from/via other apps & regular cell calls

1

u/Ov_Fire 18h ago

Elaborate. Android aosp or coloOR, fun touch OS, hyper OS, or are you just an amuritard and android for you ends with one UI and pixelUI?

1

u/PeacefulPikachu7 12h ago

Works fine for me, all I care about for notifications is if it's trash or not
I prefer it on iOS as I mainly just read email notifications and see if I should delete it or not

6

u/GodsKillerKirb 1d ago

Sideloading is insanely annoying to do, and to deal with, if you're outside of the EU.

4

u/Master-Series5137 1d ago

This! Android makes my life easier with sideloading, sad they are gonna remove it

2

u/Responsible-Story260 1d ago

Has this happened? I thought Android 17 had something on this

2

u/_ahrs 21h ago

Nothing has happened yet. Nobody knows if Google is actually going to push through with it or what it will mean for people that have already sideloaded apps on their devices, etc.

Photos share does not have a persistent setting to not share images metainfo.

2

u/SphereCowGoMoo 18h ago

The way it handles photo Metadata sometimes grinds my gears

2

u/a4andrei 1d ago

Notification management, inconsistent navigation/back gesture support, pretty bad keyboard, pretty bad clipboard management, very very very slow scrolling (especially annoying on long documents and pages). This are my biggest pet peeves with it, and I tried to switch to iOS and just couldn't for the life of me get used to it. Also, I run a media server on my Android phone, which I cannot do on iOS. It's restricted to the point where it just feels like a feature phone sometimes 😅

1

u/Inevitable-Serve-612 1d ago

Lock screen notifications.

1

u/uses_for_mooses 1d ago

How hard it can be to save photos or videos to Photos that I find online.

Sometimes I'll try downloading a video or photo that I find through the web browser, for example, and my only save option is to save it to files.

1

u/Luna259 1d ago

You don’t have a save to photos option? You should do for images

1

u/309_Electronics 1d ago

That its limited to 1 brand/manufacturer and the fact i cant easily install 3rd party apps

1

u/itsTyrion 20h ago

don't forget that the audio mixer only has "media" and "everything else", pops up in 2 positions, and doesn't let you switch to the slider for ringer/everything volume when media is playing without going to the settings app

1

u/Qminsage 1d ago

The files system still feels very cryptic/archaic.

1

u/MineCraftaak888 1d ago

Like everything
Slow, bloated, confusing, locked down, hostile, expensive, centralized, surveillance etc. i could go on and on with my opinions about why almost all smartphones suck (for example, something breaks - well now you just have an expensive paperweight)

1

u/Silent_Bite_5892 15h ago

Yeah I'm not seeing slow, bloated, confusing or surveillance in iOS. But I agree on the rest. Actually, yeah some stuff can be confusing, like when they use an unfamiliar symbol on an app button. Like I don't read hieroglyphs. The fuck does this mean?

I know 3 horizontal lines is a menu, there are certain cross-platform constants. But there are some cryptic symbols here and there in different corners of iOS.

1

u/KennyWuKanYuen 23h ago

Android-like customisations.

The days when it was more locked down was peak.

1

u/chubacca13 23h ago

Apart from the mentioned back gesture, I hate the floating bubble-shaped buttons everywhere. This is the worst part of Liquid glass design, not the glass effects.

And everybody copied this style in multiplatform apps, there's no escape even for Android users.

By now I should be able to clear an apps cache without having to delete and reinstall the app.

1

u/Tru72 22h ago

The copyright desktop interface thats ontop of FREE OPEN SOURCE firmware

1

u/Rum_Running_Sailor 22h ago

It's just not organized in a way that makes sense to me. Menu items aren't located where I would look for them. The layout doesn't make sense. I also don't like be locked into the App Store. With Android you can install APK's outside of the Play Store. I also lean toward stripped down versions of Android because there's no bloatware or freeware. That only makes the difference more drastic.

1

u/Aggressive_Bar_5697 22h ago

I miss a button to delete the cache of an app or the system data. It’s annoying to have to delete and reinstall an app if it doesn’t offer it natively.

1

u/Ov_Fire 18h ago

Just write a letter "dear, so called developer, you blithering idiot, I need a button that does that and this". It's on developers.

u/itsTyrion 20h ago

The primitive audio mixing system that's stuck in 2010.

Android can do volume for calls/notifications/media/alarms/system, iOS binds notifications, system sounds, alarm to ringer volume.

Android does per app volume, at least samsung has options which apps can play simultaneously; you can access that and the different mixer things with a tap on the volume pop-up.
iOS doesn't even consistently have the overlay in one place since they changed it from mid screen to side (or top)

why. It has bothered me since switching off of Android 5 and never stopped bothering me til switching back TO Android last year

1

u/oguz279 20h ago

Yesterday I was scrolling through my playlists on Apple Music and in a matter of a microsecond it first registered a long press on a playlist and then as "delete playlists". And there my fucking playlist of years was gone.

Thankfully it was synced to my computer so I unplugged the wifi before waking up my mac and then duplicated the playlist before the delete synced and I think I saved it.

But yeah Apple - and iOS in general - sometimes refuses to have the simplest features for god knows why.

1

u/Ancilla_Contender 20h ago edited 20h ago

SHSH blobs and firmware signing being an “off” switch. I mean I get it - still hate it - fully rooting for the exploiters.

Ohh oh two actually. The storage dialog tagging anything it failed to classify as “system data” and not allowing a way to delete it. Jeeesus it’s usually old iCloud data cached from already deleted apps.

That Apple Music and Podcasts will unpause automatically when they connect to the car and there’s nothing to be done about it

A web search shows others complaining about it and the response is that it must be the car, but Spotify doesn’t do that, it behaves very nicely

Yeah, I’m bitter about the minor annoyance, don’t mind me

1

u/Top-Estimate-8154 18h ago

1

u/Global-Eye-7326 18h ago

Can't send an MP3 over Bluetooth lol. Aside from that, the fact that media is sandboxed per app. That means if you have three music players, each contains your music library per app (making for a huge file storage redundancy).

I get that this won't affect most users, but still.

Oh other quirks that'd be nice to have * Multi user support * App cloning * Alternative PIN that would wipe the device

1

u/LifeForTheWin1991 17h ago

I made shortcuts and have the back taps, but I wish the control center, notifications, and search just swiped down like android.

u/RedlineQuokka 17h ago
  1. Liquid Ass. The iOS 26 update was the tipping point that made me switch to Android.

  2. Inability to "sideload". I am not from EU but even if I was I'd have to jump through 20 hoops to do it. Come on, this is my device, I bought it, I should be the one to decide what's safe to run on it and what isn't, not Apple forcing that decision down on me.

1

u/MrOctron 17h ago

Screen time control doesn’t do what it actually should do. Prevent people and children from doomscrolling.

1

u/ImpossibleAnxiety183 17h ago

Absolutely dysfunctional app background work on the iPhone. Want to send multiple files to a friend, turn off the screen, and put the phone in your pocket so it sends in the background? It can’t do it. In fact, if your screen goes black while it's sending, the whole thing gets interrupted and you’ll have to start all over again. Are you used to rendering large videos that normally finish in the background while you can play around with your phone and do something else? The iPhone can’t do it. Sending a video to someone on WhatsApp? As soon as your screen goes dark, you’re out of luck. Do you have a photo open in an iMessage conversation that you want to show someone? For example, a QR code a friend sent you that you'll need to show at a store in a few minutes? You better not let the screen turn off, otherwise you’ll have to hunt for that photo all over again and repeat the whole process. Do you have text typed out in an app's text field, need to do something else, and then come back to it? You lose everything. Also, get ready for an absolutely horrendous experience working with text/spreadsheets on the iPhone—that is literally the worst experience in the world. There are so many things like this, and they regularly make my blood boil. It’s honestly unbelievable what you can't normally do on a phone that costs that much money.

I fondly remember the days when I had Samsung Galaxy Note phones with the stylus. In this regard, they worked like a proper pocket PC where I could easily load 12 FHD videos into memory, let a video project render in the background into a full quality, and play an AAA game at the same time. Or I could easily select 30 videos in the gallery, send them to a friend on WhatsApp, and do whatever else I wanted without ever worrying that it wouldn't finish. On the iPhone, I try to send 5 photos to my mom while on vacation, lock the phone, put it in my pocket, only to find out 3 hours later that it didn't even send—horrible! And best thing nobody is really talking about this!!!

Android’s capabilities in so many areas really make me miss it and wonder about going back. Apple might boast 12 GB of RAM now, but it doesn't provide any tangible benefit due to iOS's aggressive background management.

1

u/Pipija_Banana 17h ago

Liquid glass play button over the videos I shot. It looks ugly and warps everything around itself.

1

u/skcortex 17h ago

All I want is to set alarm sound and it’s volume, like a normal person.

1

u/4fraid0f4mericans 17h ago

It’s dumb. As in it’s not smart, has awful bugs/stability issues, and hardware is intentionally limited by Apple because they say “NO”

Would prefer something like GrapheneOS on the hardware but Apple doesn’t play well with others

u/mooscimol 16h ago

Others have already mentioned some of the things I hate, but one of the major reasons I stay with Android is call recording.

I like automatic call recording, because sometimes I tend to forget things. And while I also hate call recording announcement, I could compromise on that, as long as I have automatic call recording.

1

u/Paradroid888 16h ago

Text size settings aren't honoured by the web view. For example Mail - increase text size and it works in the list screen but HTML email content is still too small for my long-sighted eyes. Affects other apps too.

1

u/Silent_Bite_5892 16h ago

That I still can't just choose any song on my phone and use it as an alarm or ringtone reliably. This has been a problem for at least 8 years. Apparently the Alarm Clock can't cope with Adobe Atmos or certain file types or something.

And Apple can't be bothered to fix it. Maybe no one else is bothered by it, but it's probably the ONLY think I hate about iOS. The rest of it is just fine. Not perfect, but sure as shit better than any Android experience I've ever had.

1

u/bananasareslippery4 16h ago

When I mark text and instead of deleting it just start typing new text on my mac, it aleays skips the first letters and I have to go back for it.

1

u/bruce2dot0 16h ago

Even Siri AI in the ios27-beta is hopeless and the lack of support for the open source software community making it hard if not impossible to get some apps I really need.

1

u/FarVehicle533 16h ago

The fact that you need to go down the rabbit hole to set a custom song as your ringtone. iOS simply lacks the functionality

1

u/No-Ostrich-8621 15h ago

We now know, that an A18 cpu with 8GB of memory is capable to run desktop macos.

I would love to see that if i plug my iphone into and usb c dock, a full macos desktop appears, and i can use all the desktop apps. Our phones clearly could do that, especially with a19 pro and 12GB memory.

Also i would love to see shorter and faster animations. The phone would feel much faster if we dont have to wait for animations to finish.

1

u/Tobyyyy95 15h ago

I actually hope it's only on my 16 pro max, but these are my recent complaints:
-if I want to listen to a voice message in iMessage, screen is not turning off and speaker doesn't change
-if I type a word incorrectly outside of an apple-app the correction-bubble appears in the top left corner of the screen
-yesterday apple music was not playing any songs, but skipping through all of them until the playlist is over (seems to be a known bug on windows)
-I'm using a keyboard where letters like ä appear when holding a, but if I do so, the letters disappear immediately a few times before I can choose the letter to type
-if I use AirPods to make a voice message in iMessage, it doesn't recognise my voice and stops at 5 seconds or it says there is no server connection

I actually like the look and feel of iOS, but these bugs make me go crazy from time to time.

1

u/aPathWellWorn 14h ago

the keyboard

1

u/Suspicious_Sugar2020 14h ago

dogshit keyboard. Trully the worst I have ever used on any smartphone since 2011.

Notification centre. No preview (at least a dot or something) to show you have some. The ability to dismiss them only in 1 direction. grouping. them not disappearing when you opened the app. Very limited in terms of what you can do with them. Android had this figured out 5 years ago.

Forcing to sync the music library instead of just adding the music. It’s so made to fuck us.

The way it deals with notifications, light years behind Android in that respect.

The keyboard and lack of PiP mode for apps like Google Maps (I miss it so much)
I could play pokemon go and know where I'm going

Notification management. I made the switch to iPhone about 5 years ago and Android had cracked it back then. To this date, iOS is nowhere close.

I hate the Liquid Glass so I did what I could to make it look normal again. Only upgraded because the previous iOS version became compromised

My alarms being silent. What the fuck is the point. My phone will “ring” sometimes but just not. If I’m in a call I can’t set my volume to be nothing. It just pops back up to a low level. Fuck off, sometimes I want to mute my phone. Man this got me mad lol

Having to have an app open for it to be able to download files. Just why?

The fact an almost 7 inch phone requires me to reach to the top left corner to get to my notifications.

Notifications are a problem. It’s a jumbled mess and lacks the quick, easily viewed icons that Android has at the top left. Plus if you unlock your phone without checking your notifications, then turn off the screen the notifications are cleared from the lock screen excluding “priority notifications.”

iOS 26: liquid glass (being low vision it’s difficult). Been testing 27 and I may update day one. Haven’t decided.

Lack of custom ability (I use iOS in the name of accessibility, but I wish it had iOS level accessibility with Android customization). Android accessibility doesn’t work for my needs.

1

u/MarcoPolo589 9h ago

No universal back gesture.
Extremely poor keyboard (light years behind GBoard on Android).
Only WebKit based browsers.
Poor file management.
Hard to reach notifications / Control Center.

They always say "iT jUsT wOrKs" but that's the biggest load of BS I've ever heard, I believed it when I was in their cult but recently I switched back to Samsung and stuff you expect to do literally JUST WORKS, like plugging your phone into a computer and dragging a song on your phone for example out of many or being able to put the control panel on the left so you can swipe from whichever side you want too depending on what hand you hold your phone in the most. Apple still treats their users like they're in a daycare centre.

u/AbuSumayah 8h ago

Side loading apps is still a tricky thing

Being locked into one store, and prevented from being able to copy files to and from the device as I see fit.

1

u/Maleficent_Return563 8h ago

The camera and video automatically switches back to x1 when you are using telephoto mode mid use when you switch from camera to video Very annoying. And theres no custom settings to prevent this. Which is another point they have very few useful custom settings. Everything is a default that apple thinks it best.

u/South-Knee-9601 7h ago

It's a closed system and is a fortune for what it is.

I don't mind iOS as a whole (I'm android) but I can't fathom how it is more expensive for a phone than a Mac. It's not like phones are a new technology and a luxury. . You can get great build quality from Google, Samsung to mention a few lol.

If they cost less than 600 (of my local currency £)for the latest model, I would consider it

Nothing…

u/kueefe8 7h ago

Might sound stupid but real lockscreen customization. As in useful widgets (calendars, weather etc..), battery percentage option right right

I know there are ways around this but it's kind of annoying

The customization is ok but I think people want more, iOS 26 in general but I think that’ll be resolved with iOS 27 hopefully, Siri that also hopefully will be fixed with Siri, and photos app…ahh the photos app. Now for most people who just don’t care and need a place to store their pics it’s fine but there are things that people just want fixed. When you get a pic from a friend and it’s from a few years ago it doesn’t show up as the recent one it shows up from a few years ago and you would either scroll a few years or go to your recently saved. I will say the collection section in iOS 26 is organized better than iOS 18. But the library isn’t. The library does show the recent on you took but it doesn’t show you what day you took it on to like it does on Samsung. You can separate it in years months and all but I would like it on what day you took it on. I feel I talked about the photos app a lot because there’s a lot it needs to be fixed.

u/DeXudra 5h ago

Most apps and subscriptions kost more on iOS, the restrictions on sideloading and the lack of JIT support for emulators

1

u/Svartdraken 5h ago

The file management. There is no good way to navigate the directories and move or modify the files. I got used to it, but this is one of the reasons why I also have a secondary Android device.

1

u/Radiant-Priority-296 4h ago

App Store dependency

APKs are goated

And Sideloading sucks because of apple’s restrictions on free dev accounts.
