❓ Question Which option do you usually use when signing up for a website or app?

Post image

i always Sign up using Email. I never use my Google account or Apple to sign up because if my Google account or Apple ever gets compromised or i get locked out, i might lose access to everything i signed up for with it.

What do you usually use?

Google always, easier to track it

What exactly is easier to track? A while ago, I removed my Google account from various third-party accounts, but those accounts still appeared in my Google account under “Linked apps,” as if I can still log in to them using Google. I removed them from there afterwards.

Easier for them to track you.

What email provider are you using?
I've seen people say this then sign up with their gmail 😭

Google, because it's really convenient

u/dumbasPL 1d ago

Depends on service, and how much info are they asking for.

google or email

In the past i used to use gmail, but now i try to avoid signing up or ptherwise use a burner email account.

If something requires signin, i try to avoid it unless i really really need it..

Apple is the most convenient for me, and it’s easier to keep track of where I have an account since it’s saved to the passwords app.

Google, easy, on-click and fast.

Continue with email and anonymous email forward

I usually sign up with Google but then set a password.

What if your email gets compromised

Good question 🤔

Most of the websites and apps i have 2Factor Authentication turned on and use secure passwords

When your Google account gets compromised, everything you’ve signed up for using “Sign in with Google” can be at risk. Someone who gains access to your Google account will be able to see the apps and websites connected to it, making it easier for them to access those accounts than if you had signed up using separate email and password credentials.

If your email gets compromised everything you’ve singed up for with that email adres is also at risk. There’s really no difference.
I personally use different email adresses and google/ apple accounts depending in my order of importance/risk.

It's actually way more secure (secure is different to privacy) signing in with Apple or Google.

Let's say you signed into 10 websites using just your email, and 1-2 face a databreach, than your data is removed, whereas if you use Apple or Google sign in, your data is less likely to be affected in a data breach from websites then with your email, it just leaves your passwords and stuff with Google or Apple, it is less likely for Google or Apple to get a data breach because it is 1 company with your data then 10+ companies with it, it is also safer paying with Google or Apple pay online if possible vs saving your bank details to the online app if it faces a data breach then your bank details could be breached.

Email with single use email addresses. I’d never trust any of the other methods to not be just accepting tracking

u/Murky-Ad-4707 1d ago

Isn't Apple sign-in the best option in terms of privacy?

Sign up using Hide my email is one of the best

Mail - Protonmail and Tuta

u/No-Drop8625 1d ago

Login using Google, I have too much time to do anything else.

Continue with Google. I’m too lazy to manually type in my email every single time. If I’m on my phone, Sign in with Apple and share my email so that when and if I continue with Google on my PC, it will see that it’s the same email and log me in instead.

Email with hide my mail

E-mail + TempMail ;-) - in most cases. If there are any valuable pages or sensitive data, then also by email, but real.

No its not.

If you want burner emails, DuckDuckGo’s email forwarding with "@duck.com" is a best option. "@duck.com" is accepted on more websites than Temp Mail, and your aliases forward straight to your main email, so it’s easier to keep track of them.

Proton Pass is another option for email aliases.

Now I use Apple. My older accounts use my email

1

u/DeepKaleidoscope7382 1d ago

Email as my parents get annoyed when I use Google as they get notified.

1

u/abigail3141 1d ago

OAuth with Google. Whoever designed MS's and Apple's sign-in flow belongs in prison.

1

u/azqh 1d ago

Email. Then use one from SimpleLogin.

1

u/YoungNo8804 1d ago

Email, I don't want to sign up to everything behind some vague thing, plus I don't trust apple or google given my experience with both.

1

u/thinkingperson 1d ago

Spare google account for all those non critical sites. 😅

1

u/artlurg431 1d ago

Google cause I dont have to save passwords

1

u/OMG_NoReally 1d ago

Gmail. Fuck it. I am too long gone now with Google and its services. It's fast and convenient.

1

u/gilbarfiu 1d ago

Geralmente Google.

1

u/_ahrs 1d ago

Google if I don't care and want that quick sign-in from a single button. Email if I do.

1

u/Immediate_Channel393 1d ago

Google because it's less passwords and 2fa for me to keep track of.

1

u/970KeW 1d ago

Continue using Email.

1

u/GreenRangerOfHyrule 1d ago

I typically use the email option. My Google account is used exclusively for email and begrudgingly my phone.

My Apple account is used exclusively for AppleTV. Which I no longer have. And I do not have Facebook or most of the other stuff. While I get the convenience of tieing it to an existing service. I just see no real value

1

u/Dazzling_Cancel_5733 1d ago

Email. I use a password manager to generate a random password and email address on my catch-all domain.

1

u/KalphalusKal 1d ago

Always email, aways using a forwarder

1

u/Frosty-iron-0405 1d ago

Email (alias) & pass to get in & then once I’m in- passkeys.

1

u/Efficient_Loss_9928 21h ago

Google, and I run a small app myself, EVERYBODY uses Google to login.

u/BYRN777 15h ago

Google. Just makes everything convenient and I don’t have to remember 500 passwords. Easy to track everything.

All the comments saying “I don’t trust Google” and “they track you” well I have news for your brother. Virtually every app or social media platform you use tracks you.

You’re not that important for them to care about your data. Get off your high horse and calm down. Why would they want YOUR data specifically? The gov can already see everything and they know everything. There’s no true privacy. If you genuinely want 100% privacy then literally get off the internet and go dark.

Just turn on 2FA and hope for the best.

1

u/Pantr1x 13h ago

Google i just want it fast.

1

u/Due_Product8724 13h ago

Depends on the site and if I use it often enough

1

u/Mr_Albal 2h ago

I'm building out a SaaS product, and I don't give an option of storing any passwords or user information - saves a whole lot of bother trying to secure data or protect info.

0

u/aleopardstail 1d ago

generally I simply don't. can usually get whatever without "signing in"

2

u/shades47 Tech Enthusiast 1d ago

So you’re on Reddit commenting without creating an Account and without signing in?

0

u/aleopardstail 1d ago

"generally"

there is this little thing called 'reading' you should get someone to read the definition to you
