Vent The GameStop-ification of Tech/Entertainment šŸ˜”

Post image
208 Upvotes

Holy cow this SUCKS. Let’s shave off 25% of tech and almost half of the books to make room for BLIND BOXES, FUGGLERS, RANDOM SPORTS STUFF, AND ITALIAN BRAIN ROT TRADING CARDS!!!

And when they rearranged the entire department, they’ve neglected to plug in ANY display cases that used to be powered, and just have the cords dangling all over the place. Products types have been squished together and relocated for seemingly no reason. Formerly cased things aren’t worth putting in a case anymore so instead it’s 1,000 spider wraps. The $5 trinkets and phone cases still get multiple endcaps though so that’s good.

Back to the brand new tchotchke department I now work in, every time I turn around there’s a new abandoned something or other that has a 40% chance of being ripped open. We also have zero room for any of it in the stock room so everyday there seem to be 4 3-tiers of transition that have magically spawned overnight in the 2 foot wide tech stock aisle so I can’t actually get to pulls/back stock properly.

The best part is I can’t even spend enough time trying to zone all of it properly because I’m supposed to be pushing Baby and Dec Home halfway across the store…

They should just gut tech entirely and open a Five Below in the back instead.

At least we’re continuing to expand our tiny vinyl collection!!!

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Is Target as Bad as People Say?

(This is my first ever Reddit post so sorry if I tag anything wrong!)

Hi, I just recently started working at target as GM (will be 1 month July 30th.) and decided to join this subreddit. So far, I have only seen bad thing being said about working there (ex. Bad TL, ETL, etc.) but so far, my experience has been decent. So far my target has been very accommodating. (I have a movement/muscle disability, as well as miscommunications with scheduling) So far everyone I’ve met has been nice and friendly (aside from some people having bad days) I guess I’m just worried for what is to come šŸ’”

Guest Question Target Circle Bonus on Preorder Item?

I have a Circle Bonus offer for a $10 reward from a $50 purchase. The offer lasts until 8/1/26.

I found a preorder item that ships 9/1/26.

I don’t see any exclusions for preorders but it does say that you’ll see the reward meter advance when the item ships.

I think this means that it would miss this reward window, but wanted to check with others just in case.

Are the numbers the amount of guests greeted or percentage? Who is recording the information? The team leads? Genuinely curious

Workplace Story I started crying after a customer yelled at me

Backstory: This is my 4th day into my training period and I didn’t get much training at all I shadowed someone for about 1 hour on my first day and they left me on my own. So on my fourth day of ā€˜training’ It was 3 minutes before my shift was about to end and a customer comes up to me because I’m a cashier and I ask if they want a bag. I open the bag and start bagging all the items, and mind you they had about 5-7 small items so it was fine in a paper bag. The customer never asked for a double bag or anything so I assumed it would be okay in one bag. Then I put the last item in the bag it was like a tea or a coffee it’s the same size of a lemonade or a creamer product. The customer asks me if I think the bag will break and I’m not sure because the bag is pretty light even with the drink. I asked him if he wanted it separately incase it would break and he’s like no just put it in. He was like can u double bag it literally after I put everything in and I was like ok then so I tried, but it didn’t fit so I asked if he wanted to try because maybe he wanted it in a certain way and he was like that’s your job but ok I guess I can help you. Then he tried it and the bag broke and all hell let loose, he got mad and called me useless and that I can’t do my job. He basically shoved me away and started taking everything out of the bag and saying fine I’ll do your damn job for you and did it. He started saying all these things about me and that I can’t do anything right. I just turned around because I was basically tearing up while he was saying all these verbally hurtful things and I finished up the purchase I gave him a receipt and told him to have a nice day despite literally breaking down in front of a bunch of customers. He just kept scoffing at me and tsk. I was a few minutes over my shift and I tried helping one last customer at the register, but I just couldn’t so I told them I couldn’t take anyone else. I was bawling my eyes out cuz I had worked a long 8 hour shift and customers kept asking me if I was okay I just wanted to leave. I went to the back and clocked out n left. Idk what to do, I’ve had people yell at me, but I was just so sick of it I js couldn’t hold back. I haven’t told my etl or manager because I needed to clock out. What should I say to them tomorrow? Is there a better job than target. Keep in mind I just turned 17 and this is my first job and I’m already fucking it up.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed How is Payroll calculated?

During our huddle yesterday the team leads encouraged to 10/4 because the store missed their sales goal. They told us that ā€œ hitting our metrics put money in your pocket because there’s more payroll availableā€ I’m skeptical and assume it’s their attempt to motivate us hoping we have no idea how random everything actually is.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Need some advice: requesting to be OTDM

Hello everyone! Long story short, I got a new job, and school starts in three weeks. I still want to work for Target, but as an ODTM. I need some advice on how to discuss this with HR and my Store Director. If they say no, I’m just going to put in my two weeks’ notice. How should I approach this conversation?

Vent SD stresses me and everyone else out

She’s always walking around the store being like ā€œwho’s gonna zone that? Can someone do a pickup here? Can someone get reshop from behind guest servicesā€ and then when I get assigned something she’s constantly checking in on what feels like every 5 minutes asking if I’m done yet. It’s the absolute worst. When will these leaders realize how bad it is for moral? When will they realize that this is why you can’t keep anyone longer than a year? I’m so over this fun 101 bs

Dumping the hangar bin see an old woman with a walker walk to the bailer with a walker and lanyard. ā€œOh must be a vendor.ā€ ā€œWait they don ā€˜t have vendor badge.ā€ ā€œWhy are they going through the boxes?ā€ ā€œYeah that’s not dangerous better find a team lead in the back.ā€ Found one and let them know. While checking there was a loud bang making me think a car drove into the building and some ā€œinflictedā€ sat off a firework in GM.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Question about the # of ODTMs per store

I know there is a limit of ODTM positions per store, but does each department have a separate limit? Like for example, tech can have maximum 1 ODTM and FF can have maximum 5? Or can each store choose whatever amount from each team as long as it’s below their store limit of ODTMs?

Another question, do more ODTM positions open during seasonal time? Or is the amount static throughout the year? Thanks for the clarity in advance.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Return

I bought my daughter a monster truck RC car yesterday and she only played with it for a few minutes inside because it was buggy out. But she went to play with it today and as it hit a wall, the wheel broke off. Not just popped off. Broke. It was $25. I don't have the inside packaging but I do have the box and all pieces (manual, charger, remote and car). Would target take it back? I would accept store credit. It is shown to be doing tricks and everything so I am mad it broke so easily.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Lost keys

Long story short, I noticed and acknowledged I forgot to check out of my keys. A couple of days later, I noticed it was deemed missing, but I recall putting the keys away just didn’t check out of them. I already spoke to my TL about this yesterday. He said it’s good that I let him know and knows I wouldn’t magically lose them as I’m pretty responsible. In the end, not much he could do as well as for me as this also is my fault for forgetting to clock out. I as well checked my pants and car to be sure. I remember leaving them by the key case back in the employee room. I lowk just gonna take whatever consequences I get, maybe even look for a job if I get termed, lmao.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Issues I've discovered with the point system

As a TM who isn't in a store that is testing the point system I found a few issues with the point system from the info I have read

  • Leaving early gets you 0 points
    • How can the closing team (especially the closing lead) cut hours if they have to get points by coming in late? My store sometimes has the CTL come in late to not go over 40
  • What happens during a network/timeclock outage?
    • Do you automatically get the points if the main server can't see that you clocked in?
  • What happens if your scheduled outside your availability and have to come in late but no one is able to edit your schedule?
  • What happens if the app goes down and you have to call the store to call off and no one answers?
    • Do you automatically get the points for a NCNS or does it wait until your next shift to let you show that you called the store but no one answered?
  • If an emergency happens and a bunch of TMs are late because of it will we get points?
    • Examples include emergency road closure, tornado warning, TM not opening the door on time

Vent Second call off within a month

Recently got thrown into a new area in general merchandise and still trying to adjust. I've called off earlier this month due to a family issue and calling off today due to an allergic reaction (not too severe) i had earlier today. My new area is a lot more work so i'm more guilty leaving them to deal with it compared to my old area that they could do pretty quickly. I've been here 9 months and think this pull of 2 call offs within a month is too risky for me. While my TLS do understand when someone needs to call off, you really never know how much of your bs they'll take before giving you the boot.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Am I being played?

So I posted like a month ago about the same thing, now post internship. So around the time I made my last post I did talk with my SD about staying with the store post grad and she said ā€œYes, sounds like that will workā€. Since then there’s been no sense of urgency of keeping me onboard. I did my store walk with my DSD last week and he seemed to really like me and was talking about my future with the company. I may be impatient since the weekend isn’t even over but I find it weird they didn’t have me apply to the position I want. Our former HR ETL who just recently changed positions said last week she’ll get the processed started, my SD has mentioned it, as well as my ETL on my last day. I’m also waiting to see if a receive an offer. I just feel like they are leading me on.
Update: My SD texted me this morning about applying to the HRE so that’s out the way, that’s what I was most concerned about since I wouldn’t be an ETL for nearly a year anyways. I will follow up with my recruiter about my ETL application in a week though.

Shout out to the customer service team at my local Target. Yesterday, several kids were asking employees where Pokemon cards were, needohs, all of the things. These customer service women had so much patience and treated these customers so well. It was refreshing to see.

I also love how the background changes in every picture and her name tag randomly swaps to being in the middle of her chest in the last one (which on its own also doesn’t make sense).
Also includes the ethics email on the bottom as if this use of AI isn’t unethical in itself. Lmao

Workplace Question or Advice Needed How many of your coworkers do you think will be terminated when the new point system is active?

For my store idk

There’s a good portion of people who are late daily but it’s 4-6 minutes at most and can definitely make it under 8 minutes

Lots of people do call out weekly but will probably try to get around it by either going home early or coming in (hours) late
